• Disease in an imbalance of energy.

    About The Author

My Journey and Why This Book

I never dreamed that at fifty years young I’d find myself sitting in Thailand, in a wood house where you can see the floor below you through the planks and hear animals running back and forth in the roof above. In a city I’d never heard of until last year, listening to the birds sing, walking in a garden every day and trying to guess what it is that smells so deliciously sweet, all while writing a book. How did this come to be?

From an early age, I always had something in me that wanted to help others. When I was about eight years old, I remember seeing some younger children hurt themselves in the playground and I immediately ran over to help. When I was about nine, I couldn’t stop crying while watching the TV miniseries Roots as I felt so bad for the people being mistreated, and just wanted to help those who had been hurt in the past.

Later and throughout my corporate life, I enjoyed mentoring and helping employees develop their skills and watching them grow and blossom in the direction and into the person they desired.

But still, how did I end up here?

Like many, my childhood was far from perfect. I witnessed and experienced physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, lived in foster care, was surrounded by alcoholism, and you might guess, came from a financially poor environment.

Whether a result of my upbringing or not, I knew from an early age that I wanted to progress, improve my circumstances, be a better person, and have some sense of financial security.

I had no idea what that looked like, however there seemed to be an ingrained societal belief that in order to progress, in order to become financially secure, you needed to go to university and gain steady employment, and I thought I was doing well when I found myself diligently on this path.

And then one day, I realized I was unhappy with certain aspects of my life. I thought I had broken the pattern of what I experienced in childhood, until I realized that although I wasn’t in a physically abusive relationship, I was in a relationship which had all the same patterns of being in one. I decided I no longer wanted to continue living that way, decided enough was enough, and decided it was time to make a change.

Strangely, at the time, I found myself consciously knowing and aware that this decision was not about the circumstances I found myself in, it was about me needing to change something about me.

This was a major turning point and started me down the path I’m on today. I began turning my focus inward and toward my own personal development. I was introduced to the special gift of Reiki and I invested in a coach. I began meditating, reading, and attending various seminars and workshops.

The accumulative effects enabled me to have major shifts in beliefs I previously held about myself. Not only did I seem to be consciously unaware of these beliefs, they seemed to be engrained. Beliefs such as:

I’m not worthy (of love)… to …I AM worthy…I AM loved…I AM beautiful

I’m not good enough… to …I AM perfect as I am

    I’m not deserving… to …I AM deserving

I can’t do this or be that, because… to …I CAN do

I’ve never been good at… to …I AM …I will learn to

I had a poor education therefore… to … SO WHAT!

I don’t have a sophisticated vocabulary, I’m not creative, etc., to … I AM articulate… I have the right words, at the right time, for… I AM creative... I AM an artist… etc., etc., etc.

I found myself writing crazy personal affirmations I would have never previously even dreamed, let alone considered; I had no idea where many of them came from, such as I am an author, I am an actor, etc.

I continued my inward focus and step by step, one thing led to another, door after door opened, and then seismic shifts began to occur. One of which, was planning an around-the-world trip which meant leaving a financially comfortable position. It was scary and exciting at the same time. The scary bit came from the old me, and the exciting bit came from the improved me.

I realized this was not about the travel, this was about a shift in my life, a shift in my work, and a shift in me. It was a shift to lead me to the next chapter in my earthly journey. I wanted to learn how to work with energy, learn how to care for my body naturally. I wanted to learn more about how the mind, body, and soul are connected. I wanted to learn tangible skills to help others as I had been helped. It was a shift to better help others along their journey.

I spent two years traveling, mostly throughout Southeast Asia, where I trained, practiced, and taught skills such as Reiki, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Asian Bio-Energetic Therapy (ABET), Aromatherapy, and other holistic techniques to care for your mind, body, and soul. I even started blogging, which may seem small, but was a big deal for me as it meant moving from being very private to very visible.

While traveling, it had been in the back of my mind to write a book. It was more of a concept then an actual I want to write a book about such and such. The idea kept lingering, so
