★★★★★ It's well written, highly informative and concise. It really is the perfect guide for anyone new to the wedding photography business.
So you want to be a wedding photographer? Or you already are and need some guidance? When I first started to photograph weddings I spent a ton of money on magazines, books and even went to evening classes to study. I also followed the Blogs of the top professionals. But no matter how hard I tried to emulate them, I still wasn't producing great results or getting more clients. I spent so much time fiddling with my settings that I lost my confidence and creative side. I then spent the rest of the week post processing and had no free time or life.
I've built a successful business and will share with you how I did it. I've simplified my settings, created a streamlined approach and removed the myths and secrets around wedding photography. I'll show you how to free yourself and use a small number of settings that work in nearly every situation. Remove the mystery around Manual Mode. Also why your flash needs to be left at one setting and how you may be using it incorrectly. I'll also show you a method of post processing that saved me 10 hours of work on every wedding.
Read this book and free yourself from the chains holding you back. Spread your wings, simplify and streamline your business, earn more money and get your life back. This is a short reference guide that you'll have read in an hour or two, but contains a wealth of information.

So You Want To Be A Wedding Photographer? - D.K.Rothman
Afterword
Introduction
In this book I’ll tell you how I took my business from start up to success. It’s not a master class and I’m not a prize winning author either. I’ll chat to you in an easy to understand manner. Not too much technical stuff (unless it’s needed). Simple settings and solid advice to get your business under way or to improve what you already do. There are no pictures in this book. I wanted to keep it simple and accessible to everyone. The internet is full of examples of how professionals pose and take photos so you have a huge resource at your fingertips. I’ll keep it plain and simple, the way I prefer it. I’ll tell you what I do and how I do it. I hope you’ll enjoy the book and can take something away from it. If I had this book when I started, I’d have saved a lot of money and time.
I’ve always loved photography and I was always the family member with the good camera producing good amateur photos. But it dawned on me a few years back that I’d enjoy it much more if I actually made some money from it. Or better still made a good living. What could be better than my photography interest and a good income? But where on earth do I start with it all? Surely photography is for professionals who have completed degree level courses on lighting and technique? How could I ever compete with them without investing years of time and a ton of cash in furthering my knowledge?
I’m guessing you are reading this book because you are either starting out in wedding or event photography, or perhaps need a little help and advice and have your business already under way? In either case I really do think I can help you. If you are a seasoned professional and know all about your camera and the business then this book is not for you. However, if you are thinking about going into the business or are already there but want some tips from a seasoned professional, you’ve come to the right place.
I've been there and done it the hard way. I spent a ton of money and have a ton of books. Save your cash and read this book instead. I came out the other end with a very successful wedding photography business and I’d like to share my experience, tips and a road map for success with you. This book will help with not just wedding photography but any kind of event photography where you need to understand your camera, lenses, pre and post production tools, and your client’s needs. It’s primarily targeted at wedding photographers but any event photographer should be able to find some useful information within these pages.
We all know that you will live and die in this business by the way you engage with your customers and the products you deliver. You cannot engage successfully with new and existing customers unless you understand your business and equipment.
However, you can spend a ton of time and money researching your craft. Buying glossy picture books where the professionals tell you their technique and camera settings or attending courses even to degree level. Believe me I’ve done a lot of this. I had so many books and magazines I could fill several boxes with them. You can do all this and yet fail to be successful and deliver a satisfactory product because you do not understand your equipment or you overcomplicate things and end up not delivering a great product.
In this book I’ll explain what I do and how I do it. I’ll explain it all from my own angle and my own experience. I’ll tell you why many professionals don’t get bogged down with changing too many camera settings. Why they often leave their flash at one setting all day and night. Why they back everything up in triplicate and why they have lots of free time because they don’t slave over Photoshop (or whatever they use), trying to post process everything for days and weeks. The secret I learned about that saved me 10 hours minimum processing every wedding and event.
I must repeat that this is my experience. I’m an educated and well-read guy and I’m sure you are educated too, so I don’t see why it wouldn’t work for you. This book simplifies and removes the mystery around your camera, the lenses and the photography business in general. Of course you still need to understand how your camera works, how light affects your photography. You’ll get that with practice and I’ll point you in the right direction with this book.
When I first started out I needed a book like this. I needed someone to cut away the crap and the high level technical stuff that constantly confused me. I also needed tips and advice from someone who spoke my language at my level. I wanted to hear from the guy
