    George R. R. Martin is a fantasy and sci-fi writer, best-known for his series A Song of Ice and Fire. He has been praised for his morally complex characters and the adult themes of his fantasy works, which differentiate him from other fantasy writers. He tends to focus on realism over a simple good versus evil plot, creating worlds where politics and magic are equally important. He has also written many short stories and is the editor of the popular multi-author Wild Cards series. Martin is a six-time winner of the Locus Award and has written episodes of hit television shows such as Twilight Zone and Beauty and the Beast.

    Martin gained an MSc in Journalism from the Medill School of Journalism and worked as a teacher before becoming a full-time writer. He married Parris McBride in 2011 and lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
