    Criminal Damage - Harib Shaqsy

    Chapter 1

The steel cube in which I am placed holds especially modest attempts of things to place my attention on. All I can do is dart my eyes from one graze to the next as I observe all the various indents. This is the most secure holding cell we have, built to handle the worst of the worst, but it is also as multi-purpose as it is a cell. At the moment, other than the bulletproof doubled glazed over glass window, which from my own experience and knowledge, definitely has people behind, is the fact I am sat on the most stingy metal chair they had to offer. The table in front of me is made of wood as well, and it is chipped in several places, splinters caught along its sides from wear and tear that was given to it over time. I can tell they rushed this in here quick, though, why they wanted to talk to me in such a secure location baffles me beyond comparison to anything else I have achieved in my life thus far.

I go to turn, rotating my hips so that I could spot who had summoned me here, even though I am fully aware-

Eyes forward Rookie The brusque accent calls out-

Shooting back forward, I maintain my place, hands in my lap, back straight, a placid expression is forced onto my face because of all the people in the world, it had to be the Chief of Police who had come to speak to me. He creates a path around me, circling me as he prepares for our interview. The door locks shut behind us, and when the last breath of fresh air is cut off from me once more, I know I am alone now, just me, and him...

The Chief of Police is a fairly stoic man; he’s on the aging side now and has worked in this business for many years. He knows the ins and outs of everything that happens; he manages us, sees each and every one of us, and tries his best to keep this city safe. He’s rather stocky, with bushy eyebrows and nostril hair that I’d wish he’d cut. His eyes are a light brown but
