    Welcome fellow burlesque enthusiast! Whether you chose this little How to Become a Burlesque Dancer book by curiosity or with a firm desire to become a burlesque starlet, get ready to enter a world beyond anything you’ve ever known before.

    Burlesque as an art form is not new, and it encompasses a multitude of styles, performers, shows and cultural manifestations. For a newcomer, it might be a little daunting to make your way through the mass of information that can be found online or on paper.

    Burlesque is different from other artistic and theatrical activity, in that knowing how to and where to start is not as straightforward. If you want to become an actor, you join a theatre class or drama group. If you wish to be a painter, you pick up a paintbrush and start painting, or you take drawing lessons. The same goes for music, sculpture, dance...Burlesque on the other hand, always seems shrouded in mystery for the uninitiated.

    Burlesque has kept a bit of its scandalous aura since the 18th century, and I lost count of the amount of times I heard I would love to try burlesque but I wouldn’t dare, this is beautiful but I wouldn’t know how to, and more from audience members after shows.

    Truth is, anyone can do burlesque if they’re passionate enough about it! And trust me, the more you start learning about it, the more involved and obsessed you will become. Burlesque has this way to pull you in.
