Pomes a Wry Look at Life and Everything

About this ebook
Pomes are a reflection of everyday life and happenings with a wry twist.
The subjects vary widely and randomly, the only consistent theme is that all except the first three are in alphabetical order.
No two pomes cover the same subject although The Fantasies and The Ponderer are close but different. Some are based on Thads early life in London while others derive from living close to the countryside in later life. A few touch on solutions to insoluble problems but only in a light hearted manner, for example The Roads. The only pome with a message is The Time. There is of course the odd cheeky pome and romantic pome to cover as much of lifes spectrum as possible. Some of the pomes relate true happenings and it could be fun to try to pick them outThe rest are pure imagination.
The title Pomes is a legacy from my late sister Eileen who was an absolute wizard at advertising rhymes and jingles she called Pomes. So in some way this book is a late tribute to Eileen; if I have only been half as good as Eileen then hopefully you will enjoy these pomes as much as I have enjoyed writing them. In all honesty I cannot offer a money back guarantee since tastes will differ. But I just offer you this thought.
As an engineer I have a very practical and logical mind, but I can assure you I have witnessed poltergeists in action. My aunt was a psychic medium and called me a reincarnate. I try hard to keep an open mind about everything, but I believe my sister has in some way guided
me while writing the verses. I know what I think, I do not ask you to believe it. I have to ask myself why this sudden urge to write pomes and all written within six months and never before have I written a pome, poem, or verse. (Spooky Eh?)

Dedication
I dedicate this book to my late sister Eileen.
She was a whiz with rhymes and she called them Pomes. If she’s up there watching I did ask Harry if he thought you would mind me pinching that name.
I also thank the dedicated help given to me by my friend Susan.
Introduction
The Pomes in this book are in alphabetical order except for the first three. You are encouraged to dip into them but if you don’t like the title, the Pome itself may still surprise you with an unexpected punch.
The index to this book is at the back to encourage a bit of dipping.
The Pomes are straightforward verses with a rhyme and some will ask you to think about life differently perhaps.
Enjoy
Thad’s Pome
I am getting old
So don’t have long
My Pomes to be told
The platform for my song
I’ve writ more than seventy
On my PC they are stored
That I think is plenty
To keep you all bored
If I should drop dead
My Pomes will be lost
Those out of my head
Their recovery will cost
Those took to the grave
Are never to be heard
I ask if you can save
The Pomes of this nerd
The Time
Time’s a thing no one can buy
However much they seek to try
What matters most is where we are
Not the horizons oh so far
The past is gone never to return
It’s only there for us to learn
As harsh as this may truly seem
The life that’s gone is like a dream
It lingers where you’re not sure
Hard facts then, now not so pure
Time is what your wrist watch shows
It will be taken wherever one goes
And life is like a big watch spring
Over wind and it might go ping
We can plan for future times
Saving our money pennies and dimes
If that plans target we shall meet
Then the present time will be sweet
Time can fritter through ones fingers
When it’s gone no memory lingers
Time will never go away
So spend it well, enjoy today
The Trick
This is such a cheeky prose
You will need to hold your nose
And stick your fingers in both ears
Make sure your eyes have no tears
Are you now feeling total bliss?
So how the hell are you holding this?
The Angler
Sitting down from dawn to dark
Hardly what one calls a lark?
Rigidly still, with transfixed stare
Even when they eat their fare
Focusing on fluorescent tip
Tensed for any suspicious dip
Flex the limbs ease pins and needles
Distraction from a group of weasels
Sweating in the noonday sun
Their ordeal is halfway done
Determined that their pitch is right
Waiting for the cool of night
The wind dies down the water still
Time to contemplate
