    Prologue

The year was 2014; the mighty United States of America was only a shadow of its former self. One year before she had been attacked from within without any warning and died a quick and silent death.

During the previous two Administrations the American people were a divided nation. Half of the population had embraced the larger Government policies, the other half pushing for less Government. For several years the country was teetering on the brink of massive changes and the fighting men and woman of our armed forces were caught in the middle.

The military leadership, namely the Joint chiefs of the United States armed forces had secretly made the decision to do something and were the masterminds of the government takeover. They had carefully planned for many years their diabolical scheme to overthrow the civilian leadership and establish a new Republic. The Joint Chiefs, with the help of thousands of senior officers and some foreign mercenaries, executed a plan that took every American and foreign government by surprise. Over a period of five years they carefully infiltrated every facet of the United States Government and when the time came they assassinated all the leaders from the President all the way down to the state governors and almost every top law enforcement official across the country.

Unfortunately for them, the North American continent and the rest of the world, what they had planned for the United States and what actually took place was as different as night and day.

Two things destroyed their new vision of America. Their greed for power and patriotism of a million freedom loving Americans. The Patriots fought back like savages from day one of the coup, stopping the rebellion from completely taking over the whole country.

After a year of unrest a large portion of the North American population in the middle of the country was now on its own, there was no government, no remnant of the Land of Liberty that our ancestors had constructed and fought so courageously to preserve for over two centuries.

The citizens of the other nations were just trying to survive on what meager resources had been left after the looting and pillaging that took place in the wake of a year without any laws or anyone to enforce them.

The demise of the United States had ramifications across the entire planet. Countless millions had suffered and perished as a result of a global uprising that took place after the coup.

Now, without America being able to back up its allies, old enemies struck hard and fast against each other.

The Middle East was ripped apart, itself and all of Europe was enveloped in global anarchy with overwhelming death and destruction. Millions upon millions were dead and countless more dying a very slow and agonizing death.

During the mass confusion and anarchy several tactical nuclear EMP’S(Electro Magnetic Pulse Bombs) had been mysteriously detonated in strategic locations around the globe, almost completely destroying all forms of electronic communication and anything else that used computer based systems.

Most of the expensive micro chipped based equipment that the human race relied on for our everyday lives was now just useless piles of junk.

The world truly was in survival mode, but there were a few fortunate places where people were growing and thriving, trying to etch out some semblance of a normal life.

It was a constant battle between good and evil and only a fine line separated the two.

The western part of North America was dominated by the new Government called the Republic.

It was ruled by a man named Jonas Bennett, one of the masterminds of the takeover.

Bennett controlled a large portion of the country. Over the last year he and his henchmen had destroyed anyone who opposed them in their territory. They ruled their territory with an iron fist and commanded a sizable amount of military assets. He was in charge of what was left of the traitorous armed forces personnel and mercenaries that had been recruited to complete the overthrow of the now debunked US Government.

This diabolical and evil man ruled his domain by killing or enslaving anyone who opposed his will. You either submitted to the Republic or you would die.

Life was harsh in Republic territory, but a surprising amount of the American population went along with it. Many of the citizens either could not or would not fight back, it was just that simple.

They were referred to as Traitors and they controlled over half of the continent.

In the southeastern part of the old United States was another story altogether.

This hearty bunch of Americans called themselves Patriots.

They controlled the states of Texas, Florida, North and South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky and a small portion of south eastern Virginia.

Thousands of communities in these states banded together and fought back against the Republic, eventually pushing them completely out of their territory.

They were tough Americans, Patriotic Americans, and did not want to live under the rule of Bennett’s Republic and his henchmen.

During the past six months the dust had finally settled enough for them to try and rebuild. The Patriots had worked hard and now were beginning to turn things around; making a life that was close how it used to be, before the Coup. Many communities had schools and hospitals open. Food and the basic necessities of life were being provided to the many fortunate people living in the south east.

Unfortunately these havens where far and few between and the majority of survivors’ caught in the middle could just barely make it. As word spread about the Patriots in southeast areas, many across the country decided to pack up and migrate to what they thought would be a better life.

Every citizen in Patriot held territory contributed to their community, if they were physically or mentally able. If you came to them offering nothing but hand out, they were kindly asked to leave.

Patriots modeled themselves after the constitution.

So this is what was left, two ideologies that were very far apart.

The Republic wanted more control over the country and now that things had calmed down, the situation was about to get very interesting.

After a long battle for control of resources, it came down to two factions, Patriots and Traitors; this is what is left one year after the Silent Death of America.

    Chapter 1

January 25th, 2014. Cheyenne Mountain, Montana.

Headquarters for the new North American Republic, twelve months since the coup.

General Jonas Bennett sat at his desk, listening to his senior officers giving their weekly briefings on how the state of his new Republic was doing. He was a tall man, about 38 years old, 6'2", and 230lbs with a muscular build with short blond hair. He was now their leader, left with most of the spoils of a devastated country.

The self-promoted Colonel to General smiled, thinking of how fortunate he was to have been at the right place at the right time.

The coup leaders, the former Joint Chiefs of Staff, who had so carefully masterminded the over throw of the government, had miscalculated the extent of their own coconspirator’s loyalties. After learning that the head of the Joint Chiefs, Air Force General John Ramos had ordered the poisoning of several of Americas’ vital drinking water supplies with a bio engineered strain of tularemia, resulting in the deaths of over a million innocent US civilians which eventually spread too many more in other countries. Some of his cohorts rebelled against him.

Scores of his followers had become disillusioned and distanced themselves from the new regime, setting up separate plans of their own in different regions of the country, most failing fighting against the Patriots or were eventually crushed by the New Republic.

There was much to do because now without the major manufacturing companies producing goods and services, resources were very scarce. Many parts of the country were in completely uninhabitable by nuclear fallout, disease and rooming murderous gangs, fighting for every scrap of food just trying to survive.

Now was the time for action! Bennett thought as he continued listening to the briefing.

He sat back in his big leather chair drinking coffee, listening, smiling. He looked up at the wall to the left of his desk and glanced at the map of North America, the New Republic’s territory stretched from California to Maine and some parts of Canada.

The only sizable place of the country he did not have control over was the South east portion of the country where the Patriots were in control. These areas had become extremely dangerous for his men to enter; the stubborn people in these regions seemed to have gotten many defiant or as they called themselves, True Patriots, to join their growing ranks over the last few months.

During the first harrowing days of the coup, hundreds of thousands of refugees were lucky enough to make it to the southeast portion of the country and had made their new homes in the temperate south.

The fortunate ones that had common sense that is, willing to fight back against the traitors. In the Patriot held territories they found towns and communities that would help them.

The patriots did not tolerate criminals, low life’s and in general, people who were not willing to help fight against the traitors. For the most part, the population of the south east was becoming a haven for anyone who could fight against the traitors. These people were just normal Americans, but they were very tough and resilient.

Bennett knew this and after several failed attempts at eliminating these so called enemies of the State, Bennett decided not to mix it up with these south east patriots, for the moment.

Just before Christmas of 2014 he had sent two battalions of hardened and highly trained New Republic solders into Texas, northern Alabama and the northern section of Tennessee to test the Patriots resolve. After three days of very heavy fighting, only a quarter of his men came back alive, the local people fighting back like savages against his battle hardened troops.

The lucky ones that made it out of the hostilities alive reported that the patriots fought like their backs were against a wall and took absolutely no prisoners. It was an embarrassing defeat and one he did not want repeated again.

He would deal with the south east soon enough! He thought to himself as he sat there in his big leather chair.

His main concern the last few months was trying to get his computer systems, satellites and radar stations back in service.

The EMP weapons had knocked out almost all of the electronic surveillance equipment and computer systems he had inherited from the Joint Chiefs’. Even though he had substantial resources and military hardware at his disposal, most of it now was useless without the sophisticated computer based systems the US military had relied on so heavily on in the past.

To this day, no one in his organization knew who ordered the use of the weapons. If another country had used the EMP bombs there would be no way now to tell which one did it, but he strongly suspected the late General Ramos being behind it. He was the last one in possession of the nuclear codes. This put the Republic at a great disadvantage in controlling the vast shipments of supplies that were making their way into the south east. He also was blinded from being able to detect a foreign country from invading North America.

Most of his military and civilian aircraft was now grounded and he could not use its superior air power to destroy these so called Patriots.

Bennett did not like the situation, but realized that this was the way it would be for some time. He had his best men working on it night and day.

It would only be a matter of time before his people would figure it out and then he would rule the skies above North America.

Over the last two months he was getting bored, and restless. Things had slowed down and the patriots’ had put a kink in his plans for installing himself as the new Republics first President.

He was a very smart man, well educated, but had a very evil and insane streak in him. With his position came Power, absolute power. He had become suspicious of his most senior officers and was beginning to show signs of stress. The only way he could relieve his tension was by having his way with captured women brought in from some of the rebellious areas he had crushed into submission. He was a sick pervert and he liked them young.

He would take them and use them, and if they resisted, he would beat them senseless, sometime killing them in the process.

There was no doubt about it, he was a distorted individual and his people knew it.

Most of his officers and aides that witnessed these despicable acts turned a blind eye. They all knew what side their bread was buttered on, knowing all too well what would happen to them if they protested, so they kept their mouths shut.

The men Bennett surrounded himself with were hardcore murders and thieves, recruited from military stockades or were ruthless mercenaries brought in from overseas that had the same desires as he, so they did not care what he did.

They all seemed to be having a good time and as long as it lasted, would stay loyal to him.

Bennett sat there still smiling, the reports were the same for the last month, small bands of resistance fighters in the territories he controlled were causing some disruptions, but his men were slowly crushing them out of existence.

One major concern of late was the disease and starvation going on in the large cities of the United States. They had developed into a serious problem and it was now becoming too hazardous even for his men to occupy and control. Certain areas became no enter zones as the civilian population became desperate and very deadly. What had not been destroyed in the initial days of the coup soon would be taken over by the criminal element, completely out of control.

Bennett and his team of analyst knew that soon enough the desperate and sickly populations in the cities would finish killing each other off and then he would move his men in.

He knew that there were many valuable things tucked away in the cities he could use to expand his power.

He sat there half listening to the briefing thinking of all the planning that went into the Coup.

The one thing that the coup leaders were right about was the fact that most of the American public, before the coup, were totally reliant on the United States Government for their existence.

The Government policies of the last twenty-five years had taken its toll on the public’s ability to think and survive on their own if they needed to.

So many of our freedoms had been sacrificed for the power hungry politicians and their personal agendas, which made many citizens become like wards of the state.

This was the main reason why the coup worked so quickly and Bennett knew this.

Surprisingly, a large part of the population of the United States had become to resent the United States Government and at first did not think it was a bad idea that the coup happened. However, they soon realized that the new Republic was far worse than what they had before.

Now, he was using their dependency on the Republic to rule with impunity.

Bennett sat quietly as the last aid, an Air force Col. was about to give his report.

He came back to reality when the Col. suddenly stood up and straightened his uniform.

The only problem I can see is this area around the south east portion of the country and of course Texas. Southern California and most of the west coast is a total loss sir, the gangs and Mexicans have that all to themselves. Everywhere else we seem to have the population under control. He said pointing at the map.

General Bennett raised an eyebrow and spoke up.

I thought the spics were taking care of Texas for us; the last report you all gave me said Gov. Flemings’ guard troops were being overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of Mexicans crossing the border! He said angrily.

The Col. did not want to give bad news to Bennett fearing he would go into a rage, but he also knew that the general did not want to be snowballed either.

Sir, Governor Fleming has a pretty good leader working with her armed forces and she’s the only elected official we didn’t eliminate in the initial days of the coup. Since the start, her people have put an impenetrable security shield around her; they consider her to be their President. Over the last two months we have sent two teams of assassins in to take her out; both teams were never heard from again. The citizens of Texas are one hundred percent behind her. He said lowering his eyes toward the floor.

Bennett slapped his fist on the table forcefully, startling the group before him.

"I want results people, we need the oil refineries and an open path to the Gulf of Mexico, half of my Navy is missing and they can’t find a friendly place to dock and resupply, I want her out of the picture. We don’t need her to be a rallying point for the south!’ Bennett said, speaking to all of the aids present who sat silent.

One man, the only civilian clothed person at the meeting, cleared his throat.

Bennett looked over at him, immediately recognizing him, nodding his head to his friend.

Ok Mr. Stockley, let’s hear what you have to say.

James Stockley, a tall man about 6'5" jet black hair,240lbs of solid muscle with a long scare down the right side of his face from his ear to his shoulder blade. He stood up and looked slowly around the room. Bennett had recruited him several years back when the coup was in the initial planning stages, and he liked the way he operated.

In the 90’s, He was in army special forces member and after that spent a few years at the CIA in black Opps interrogating POW’s from different conflicts around the globe. He was eventually busted for torturing and mutilating what amounted to hundreds of captured terrorist and innocent civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan to get the information he wanted. The current Administration at the time prosecuted him for war crimes and Jailed at Leavenworth. Bennett, knowing his value, was able to get him released with the help of the Joint Chiefs. He had a reputation for ruthlessness, getting information and getting the job done, whatever it would take. Bennett liked him and they were good friends

Stockley slowly walked toward the map, he was not scared of Bennett like the others.

He had a confidence about him and had always told it like it was.

I don’t think we can take Texas in a head on confrontation sir, we’ve tried that and they have as much hardware as we do and it’s still in pretty good shape. Every citizen over there is armed to the teeth and they know how to use their weapons. Some of my scouts that I sent in have reported seeing some military aircraft flying around and that means air support. I do think if we can make the Governor split her forces, we can get some Chemical teams in there and start an offensive against her. He said pointing at Texas.

The Col. who had previously given his report spoke up.

We are spread pretty thin as it is Mr. Stockley, how do you propose we can we make her do that, if she has any military aircraft flying we would be at a big disadvantage. He said disgustingly.

Stockley looked at the officer with steel in his eyes, speaking without emotion.

I suggest we use some of our more sophisticated weapons on Texas. If my calculations are correct, we have about one hundred thousand loyal troops at our disposable, but I don’t think we want to take them on head to head, let’s use our chemical and biological weapons and take care of them for good, it’s that simple gentlemen. He paused and stood next to a large map of North America, pointing from Texas to North Carolina.

We can split her forces if we use a highly trained sizable assault team and surprise attack this area from the inside right here! he said drawing a circle on a particular spot on the map.

He paused again waiting for some type of reaction from the staff gathered in the office. There was nothing, no comments from anyone.

    He continued.

The south east has been slowly organizing since the first days of the campaign. They have been taking in allot of refugees into their areas and most of the so called patriotic military units around the country have either made it down there already or are in the process of moving in to back them up. He said confidently.

He then looked directly at Bennett.

Reports have been coming in for months about these people striping every armory and military base for weapons and military hardware; carrying everything they can to help defend the South east areas. In the north east and mid-west, the civilians are migrating toward the south and have received instructions to take anything they think they could use food, drugs, transportation, and fuel, just about anything that is not bolted down. We cannot monitor their movements since the EMP, so they have pretty much free reign to take what they want. Now from the reports we have been getting, they are pretty good at what they have been asked to do. We have managed to catch a few convoys moving south, but we really have not been able to slow them down much. The good thing is they do have the same problem we have, no control over the large urban areas and they are not going into the big cities at all. He said.

What makes you think Texas will come to their aid if we attack? Bennett asked.

I already have some specially trained men who have infiltrated a small community right here. He said referring to an area between Raleigh, North Carolina and Richmond Va.

My men have been observing these people around this lake area, they have somehow managed to have legal elections and have consolidated their territory into four very large quadrants around this lake. They are well organized with a surprisingly robust security force made up of mostly Marine and Army Units who have been training the civilians all winter and summer long. Their elected community leaders have formed alliances with several large southern communities and now have mutual security agreements with each other. They have been in contact with Governor Fleming and her Army National Guard General, Lewis Atkins. He said bluntly.

Bennett looked surprised, but kept quiet, Stockley was a good planner and a very smart man, and he trusted him. He waited to see what his advisors would say.

The Col. who was giving his briefing earlier spoke up again.

What kind of security agreement? I thought that General Atkins was retired! The Col calmly asked.

Stockley looked around the room, most of the aids in the room seemed like piss ants to him, all officers, dressed up in their starched uniforms, and they disgusted him."

    Stupid assholes! he thought.

He continued, My senior intelligence operative in the south east has monitoring equipment and has intercepted several radio transmissions between the Texas military and one of the commissioners, a guy named Emerson and a local man called Jeffrey from this area right here. He said pointing at the north east section of the lake.

This man Jeffrey personally knows the General, and your information is correct Col. He said glancing at the Col.

General Atkins did retire some years ago, he and the Governors late husband served together in the Gulf war and were good friends. Governor Fleming trusts General Atkins and persuaded him to help out when the shit hit the fan last year. She has given him limited authority over her military. It also appears that this old man called Jeffrey is ex-military too and knows quite a few current and retired armed forces personnel. He has been recruiting as many patriots as he can, using a sophisticated ham radio set up since this all started. I do know this gentleman, if you attack any one of these communities, all of the other ones they have an agreement with will come to their aid and they know the real estate they are defending. He said.

Bennett watched Stockley intently, he was good at what he did and Bennett was glad he was on his side.

Stockley smiled knowing he had Bennett’s ear now.

Also, I believe that if we do this before they get too strong and if we can put enough people in there to cause enough mayhem and confusion, we can make the community leaders think they will be overrun. They will eventually call for help, and that will mean General Atkins and his men will attempt to come to their aid. he said.

Bennett leaned slowly back in his chair, this was not good news but he liked the way Stockley had it figured. He remembers General Atkins back in Iraq, he had a reputation for taking his objectives and he did not hold back anything.

Back in 2009, the General was given orders by the President to take out a massive Taliban stronghold in southeast Pakistan. The intelligence he had been given was incomplete and the General advised the President and the Joint Chiefs that he wanted to wait until he had the completed the enemy assessments. The President had just been elected and was not willing to wait; he did not want to look week in the public eye.

The General was ordered to attack the stronghold anyway; he lost over two hundred soldiers in the first day of fighting. The force he was up against was grossly underrated and underestimated. General Atkins immediately ordered an air force strike to soften the enemy up. What he was unaware of was that the Taliban had built their base in the middle of an elementary school.

Four hundred and twenty five children and teachers were killed in the air strike.

The incident was a national embarrassment for the President. He used the General as a scapegoat and fired Atkins on the spot.

Soon after, the General retired and disappeared from sight.

Bennett knew he was a tough old Soldier and one you had better not underestimate.

He sat up in his chair.

Who do you have on the ground down there Stockley? He asked pointing at the lake area.

Stockley knew he would not like his answer but confidently answered.

First Lt. Travis sir! he answered.

All the aides in the room let out a laugh and Bennett smacked his hand on the desk.

Quiet down gentlemen! Bennett barked out as he stood up and looked right at Stockley. The others in the room braced themselves for Bennett’s reaction.

You know that sorry ass couldn’t even take care of a few fucking country hicks down there last fall, I gave that bastard forty good men and he came back with six. I thought I got rid of his sorry ass! Bennett said, looking directly at Stockley, his face turning red.

Stockley did not hesitate at all, looking back at him right in the eye.

Yes, I know that sir, but he did have firsthand knowledge of the kind of people we were going to be up against there and all he is doing is observing and reporting. He has direct orders to keep a low profile. Right now I have my own handpicked team of three hundred battle hardened men within striking position taking orders from me. Several of my boys are working on infiltrating two of the lake quadrants security forces and I have plans for the others as I speak. he said as the other officers looked at each other wondering how the general would react.

Bennett sat back in his chair and thought for a few seconds, knowing full well that Stockley was indeed very good at what he did. If he had seen some potential in using Travis, then so be it. He knew in the back of his mind that he shouldn’t have put Travis in charge of taking out the civilians in that area in the first place, he had no previous combat experience. The first days of the coup were pretty hectic and he had made some bad decisions, so he was willing to let this go.

Alright then, General Stockley, you will be in charge of the southeast campaign and I will start preparing a strike force to take care of the nice Texas Governor once General Atkins makes his move to help the bastards down south.

Bennett waved his hand at the group of officers like he was swatting flies away from his face.

That is all gentlemen! he said and the officers and aids all got up at once looking at each other in amazement. They were stunned that Bennett would promote a civilian to the rank of general, it shook them all. They all left the office without saying a word.

Except for Stockley, he stayed seated.

Bennett walked over to a set of built-in shelves on the wall and picked out a bottle of twelve year old scotch.

He turned and looked at Stockley, who gave a nod.

Bennett picked out two glasses and sat back down.

Both men looked at each other and laughed, Bennett speaking first.

It’s good to be king, don’t you agree James? as he handed Stockley his glass.

Yes it is. He answered and lifted his glass, The good life.

They both drank a few sips and then Bennett put his glass down.

Ok James, what’s on your mind? He asked.

I’m not an officer Jonas and certainly not a General. He said taking a sip of his drink.

I know James, but we need a chain of command and you’re in charge, so that’s it! Bennett said as he was pouring them both another drink.

Stockley did not like it, but was willing to go along if it made Bennett happy.

These people down south are tough as nails, they fight like savages Jonas. Stockley said to him.

Bennett knew that Stockley must be concerned about the situation or he would not have said so.

How do you propose doing this then? Bennett asked.

Stockley then smiled, I’m having some of my best men infiltrate key positions around the community leaders.

Bennett smiled also knowing what Stockley had in mind.

You’re going to cut the head off the chicken! he said taking another drink.

That’s right Jonas! If I can get the community leaders together in one place, my men will assassinate them all, and when we do that I’ll have over five thousand men move in during the confusion and kill anything that moves. He said finishing his drink.

    Bennett looked at him.

You’re evil guy James, I like the plan, but how are you going to get five thousand men though, I can give you a couple of thousand, but that’s all I can spare? He asked.

Stockley smiled knowing Bennett would like his answer.

Our old friend Abdul is in town, he landed in Maryland on two cruise ships he commandeered a few weeks ago, he brought a sizable fighting force with him from across the ocean. They docked in Baltimore five days ago and are linking up with my men and moving south as we speak.

Bennett was definitely impressed. They both downed what was left of the scotch they had in their glasses.

Nice James, I didn’t even know Abdul had made it out of the middle east after getting the reports from that region. I was told that the whole place was radioactive.

    Stockley poured them another drink.

Yes that’s true Jonas, the Israelis did a number over there but somehow he and his men did make it out alive and they have many contacts all over the globe, he’s a very resourceful man, we can absolutely use him and his special talents in this operation.

Bennett knew all too well how evil and ruthless Abdul and his followers were and figured that if Stockley were going to use them it would be well worth it.

Ok then James, how do you intend to take these Commissioners out and do you have a plan?

Yes of course I do Jonas, over the last few weeks Travis has provided the names of the community leaders and all high ranking military personnel down in North Carolina.

What do you know about them? Bennett asked.

Stockley pulled out a small note pad and flipped through the pages, settling on one.

The two commissioners of the southeast and southwest quadrants around the lake area are former military personnel. One was an Army physician, Captain Ronald Emerson; the other is a retired real estate agent and former air force captain, Richard Callahan. He replied.

    Bennett looked at Stockley.

I have never heard anything about Emerson or Callahan, have you? he asked.

‘No sir, but we are working on their backgrounds as we speak, I think this Callahan was pretty popular in the community, but without the computers working we are doing our Intel the old fashion way but I do have some men that have infiltrated both of their security forces, and to my surprise it wasn’t that hard. "He said smiling.

‘That’s good James, How about the other two?" Bennett asked.

The north east part of the lake has a local sheriff as their commissioner, his name is Sam Wilson. We do know that he is a tough old boy and he goes by the book, a real hard ass. He is well known in the community and very liked. He handed the pad of paper to Bennett and as he was looking at the descriptions on the pad. Stockley continued.

The other man you might have heard of before, his name is Joseph Randall. This guy is not from North Carolina, he is from Maryland.

Bennett’s eyes widened when he heard Joe’s name.

Isn’t that the son of a bitch I had given orders for Travis to intercept and destroy back when this all started. He reported that Randall and his group of sorry men saved the locals down there and kicked Travis’ ass in the process. He did some real damage to our troops along Interstate 95. They tell me he and his men fought our people all the way from Maryland to North Carolina and kicked our boy’s asses good. he said anger in his voice.

Yes Jonas, the very one, he seems to be more than just some regular civilian. The reports I am getting is that he is a very good organizer and leader, tough as nails and can fight. He is a natural, and his people follow him. The only thing that bothers me about this man is that he is unconventional in the way he thinks, not like military men or police officers; he just has a knack for getting done whatever it is he decides to do. Over the past few months we have sent some teams in Randall’s and Wilson’s territories to probe their strengths and weaknesses.

What did you find out? Bennett asked.

Jonas, not one of them came back. This person Randall does not take prisoners at all and they kill our wounded. Like I said, they are tough mother fuckers and they have good weapons and hardware just like we have. Stockley answered.

Stockley had his full attention and gave him the rest of his observations about the man.

This guy Randall still has the same group of men around him that he had when they kicked Travis’ butt back in the fall and his ranks are growing. They keep tight security around him. The other two commissioners I can handle, but these two, Randall and Wilson are different. Their people are completely loyal to them. Don’t worry though, we will take care of business, Travis has recruited some local people to help us and we have a good plan. My men down there are very good at what they do. he said with an evil smile.

Finishing his drink, Stockley got up from his chair and poured another two fingers of scotch as he was looking at the map behind them.

I’ll handle it Jonas. he said turning back to Bennett.

‘I’m sure you will James, I don’t care if you kill every living thing down there, except for the nice young ladies! Bennett said smiling. We need to take control of the south east very soon or they might just come knocking on our door!’

    Stockley assured him.

Don’t worry Jonas, I’ll take care of my end, just be ready to move on Texas.

Stockley finished his drink and put the glass on the table.

"Oh yea, by the way, it just so happens that my men have acquired some nice fine ladies. The spoils of war from a little uprising we squashed over in West Virginia last week. Would you like me to have a few brought over this afternoon for you to inspect?’ he said with an evil grin, knowing young girls were one of Bennett’s biggest weaknesses.

Bennett sat back in his chair; his crotch began to tingle at the thought of some young pussy.

Of course I would James, and why don’t you join me! He said excitedly.

    Stockley opened to the door.

If you have any more of that scotch, we can make it a party! as he opened the door to leave.

No problem James, like I said, it’s good to be king! Bennett said as he watched Stockley smile and slowly closed the door behind him.

"Things are going pretty good, all the sweet young pussy I want and all the spoils of war." he thought as he took another sip of his scotch, smiling.

    Chapter 2

    9am Sunday morning, March 17h.

A quiet lake community in North East, North Carolina a few months after General Bennett’s meeting at the Cheyenne Mountain complex.

Joseph Randall, Mike Peters (one of his best friends) and Amber Randall, Joe’s daughter, were slowly driving north on RT 903 in Joe’s black pickup truck.

Mike was driving as they were heading toward the Ebony VA, Fire house for the bi-weekly meeting of the four regional commissioners.

Since having their first election after the coup, the commissioners had decided they would meet in one of the four districts by random choice, twice a month, to discuss everything from water supplies to getting the schools up and running. They would use the opportunity to exchange information about what was going on outside their borders, most of it lately not good.

The situation had become tense in the past few months because the New Republic had been probing the regions defenses. Luckily, the Patriots in lake community had defended themselves ruthlessly and repelled the Republic advances every time they made their presence known.

Everyone was deeply concerned though, knowing that eventually that the Republic would have to take on the Patriots in a head to head confrontation.

Since the coup, millions of Americans were left without any type of leadership, in many places the citizens of the small counties and towns across the country had decided to try and model themselves after the former US Government, but the new Republic was taking over more and more territory every day using murder and mayhem to control the population.

The people were used to the laws and rights that our constitution gave us, now it was the new Republic law, which amounted to whatever Bennett’s henchmen could conjure up to make their own life better.

The exception being the southeast United States.

Like many small hamlets in the country, the large lake community where Joe and his family had made their new home was one of the safe havens. They had modeled their communities on common sense and did not tolerate crime of any kind, using the original constitution and Bill of Rights as a template for law and order.

The part of the country was the largest area not completely controlled by the New Republic and along with Texas; they were both holding their own. Information about how the other sections of the country were getting along, those were under patriot control, was sketchy. A good portion of the news was second and third hand and hard to confirm.

The subsequent fighting between Patriot forces and the New Republic military had disrupted everything. The country’s infrastructure was failing fast and it was beginning to look like a third world country.

Foods, medicine, electricity, clean water, all the essentials for normal life as we had known it
