Author

Juan Felipe

Juan Felipe is a pastor, author, teacher, and speaker of the Word. His message comes from years of ministry experience in churches here in the States and abroad. He has broken through denominational barriers with a passion for the Scriptures and by seeking God’s perfect will for his life. Since receiving this inspired word, Juan has still faced rough times but found his way through by putting God first and practicing the principles outlined in The Gospel Ship. He and his wife, Elizabeth, know that God was behind their meeting and has directed their path over the past couple of years as they have hit the mission field, pastored together, and written a book. They make their home in northern Alabama.

To begin with, this work would not have been possible without the love and full support of my wife. Her enthusiasm inspired me to put this vision into book form so that it can be shared with others. Without her I would not have had the courage to see this project through. She continues to support my calling in ministry, teaching, and speaking, and has even motivated me to pursue developing this vision further into a series.

I would like to thank my mother-in-law, Sandra, for her encouragement and assurance that this message was ready to be delivered and received.

Friends are common place in this world, but some rise to the occasion. My friends and colleagues David Gould and Ken Bondurant are such men. They each opened their church families to participate in the development of this book as a tool for teaching. David also realized the simplistic nature that I desired to portray with his intimate drawings of The Ship.

I want to also recognize my dear friends at St. James UMC for their desire to further the kingdom. They have cheered me on throughout this endeavor.

It should go without saying, but it must be said… My gratitude cannot be contained for my home church, Florence 1st Assembly and Pastor Greg Woodall, for their endless love and support.

    Preface

Each of us has particular days that have helped shape our lives: graduations, marriage, the birth of a child, and, hopefully, the day we accepted Christ as our Savior. However, many of us have other days that stand out. Moments when we realized the mess our lives were in. You know, the day you realized that if you had been putting Him first you might not be facing the crisis you are dealing with. For me, that occurred in the summer of 1996. I had been a Christian for most of my life. My dad was a minister. I mean, I cut my teeth on church pews. During my adolescent years, I had even experienced personal miracles through prayer and faith. I married at eighteen, joined the US Navy, and shortly began a family. I took my family to church, and to most people I was an upstanding young man. To put it more appropriately, I had a lot of people fooled, even myself. After fifteen years of marriage, all the lies I had been living unfolded in one moment. The truth of who I was had been revealed, and my family would never be the same. Because I had been doing wrong for so long, I had begun to believe it was okay. I had formed habits that defined my very nature.

It was then I realized I was faced with the possibility of losing my family. So I began to look at things differently. I knew I had to change. However, for some odd reason I
