Introduction
I believe it was around the time I was struggling with bulimia, that I heard about affirmations. I started to say them even though I didn’t believe them. I was desperate enough to hope that they might work. I started saying statements, like I love myself. I love my body.
I stood in front of the mirror and looked myself in the eyes while affirming myself. After saying affirmations for anywhere from 10 to 15 years, I began to tire of them. Matter of fact, I could hardly say them anymore. I felt a block when I said them. They had helped to some degree, I’m sure, to move me forward on my spiritual journey, yet I felt like I was no longer getting out
