About this ebook

Nuggets from God and Mom is an insightful, heartwarming collection of meditations, overflowing with reminders of Gods unconditional love and compassion for all mankind. The book began as email messages written to the authors daughters to encourage them daily and remind them of their immeasurable worth in Gods eyes. Through the past few years, she has included many others to receive her inspirational devotions; however the original intent has remained the same: to encourage others to delve into Gods Word--seeking out His priceless promises, learning to live within His will, and drawing closer to His side.
The authors hope is that as you read this book, you will become convinced of the truth that no matter how far you may have strayed from God, He still wants you to come home. You are still precious in His eyes, and He desires nothing more than a close relationship with you. Journey through Nuggets from God and Mom and mine the treasure waiting in Gods Word: instructions for living a joyful, blessed, abundant life and messages of deliverance, redemption, mercy, forgiveness, hope, peace, and love.

Margaret Henson King

Margaret King is a Missouri native. She is a retired language arts teacher, having taught in the public schools of Missouri for over twenty-six years. She began writing Nuggets from God and Mom several years ago in the form of daily emails to her two daughters. Her intent was to encourage them every day with Scriptures, searching out God’s promises and reminding them of His love for them. Through time, she added other family members, friends, and friends of friends. This book is the result of the positive response she continues to receive and her belief that only through knowing, believing, and obeying God’s Word can people live the abundant life Christ died to give us all. She lives with her husband Joe in Piedmont, Missouri, close to her family: daughters Kathy and Cindy, son-in-law Terry, and grandchildren Trey, Maggie, Joey, Josh, Clurie, and Laney.

    Mark 4:33,34

With many similar parables Jesus spoke the word to them, as much as they could understand. He did not say anything to them without using a parable. But when He was alone with His own disciples, He explained everything.

Most of the time, even those closest to Jesus did not fully understand what He meant when He spoke to the crowds. Yet, when He was alone with the disciples, He explained everything. Sometimes we don’t understand either. We can read and hear the Word of God, and though it might make sense, it just doesn’t soak into our hearts. We don’t really get it. When we spend time alone with Him, He makes the meaning of His words clearer. The truths contained in the Scripture can soak in and become a part of us. In Jeremiah 33:3, God says, Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. There are thousands of golden nuggets hiding away in the Word of God. Spend some time alone with Him today and let Him explain them to you.

    Romans 12:1b (The Message)

Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering.

Many people think they have nothing to offer God. All that God really wants from us requires no special talent, no great intelligence, no enormous wealth, no important position, and no political power. He wants us. Our highest calling is to bring Him pleasure. What pleases Him? It is our devotion, our company, and our love. We can’t put Him in a box somewhere, attempting to honor Him on Sunday morning only and occasionally through the week. He wants to be our constant companion, acknowledged as the vital part of our life that He is. There is an offering you can bring Him more precious than all the gold and diamonds in the world. It is you, just as you are.

    2 Thessalonians 3:3

But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.

As a child of God, I sometimes wish I were just a baby in His arms or at least a toddler on His knee. I would prefer to live a life without trouble or temptation of any kind…but that’s what we can expect in Heaven, not here. We will have trials of all kinds, and our battles are real. However, God has promised us strength and protection from Satan’s attacks on our lives, and we will always be victorious if we lean on Him. We may be wounded, and we may be exhausted; but God calls us to crawl back up on His lap and rest in the shadow of His wings. Come unto me, He says, and I will give you rest. What a wonderful God we serve!

    1 Corinthians 13:5b

(Love) is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

Satan has many tools to use against us, tempting us to act in ways unbecoming to Christians. One of the ways he tempts us is through convincing us that we have a right to be angry with others. People--even people who care about us--will do things to upset and hurt us. Sometimes they even do it intentionally. We can remember the ‘injustice’ forever if we choose. We can let our feelings seethe away, and we can let our grudges consume us. We can choose to sin by getting even when God Himself has told us that vengeance is His. Or…we can follow Jesus’ example. He asked God to forgive the men who mocked Him, spat upon Him, beat Him, and nailed Him to a cross. If we want to live our lives for Him, then we must let His love show through us by being slow to anger and forgiving to those who hurt us. I pray that you will be able to tear up your mental list of wrongs against you and let the love of Christ fill every corner of your mind and heart.

    Exodus 3:7,8a

The Lord said, I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them.

There is only one solution to every seemingly impossible problem we will ever have. It is God. Friends and family can be a source of great comfort, but God has the answers. He knows every single thing that causes us grief, misery, pain, or fear; and He is willing to rescue us. As long as we think we can find solutions ourselves, He will allow us to flounder around to search for them. However, recognizing our total dependence upon Him will move His hands. Our complete rescue comes only when we acknowledge His power and cry out to the Only One who can save us.

    Psalm 36:7,8

How priceless is your unfailing love! Both high and low among men find refuge in the shadow of your wings. They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights.

The world has a way of assigning more importance to one person than another. Others may consider money, looks, talents, ability, position, or something else. The truth is, we are equal in God’s eyes. Each of us can feast on the abundance of His house and drink from His river of delights if we will just abide in Him. How wonderful! Notice, though, that these blessings aren’t promised to us when we are out in the briars and thistles checking out what the world has to offer. They come when we stay in the shadow of His wings. Feasting on the abundance of God’s house is far more than having food: it is having every need met. Drinking from His river of delights is joy reserved for God’s children who are living in obedience. He adores us, and He has great rewards even in this life for those who live their lives close to Him.

    James 3:17,18

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.

Wisdom from God begins with living a holy life. We cannot expect God to give us revelation in complicated situations when we are not willing to follow the specific instructions He has already given us. Being obedient is a prerequisite to gaining wisdom. The evidence of wisdom from God is apparent in the way we treat others. We must be gentle, reasonable, merciful, sincere, and impartial…and we must be peacemakers. Yes, it takes effort, but it is not impossible. Opportunities will present themselves if we are looking. Make every effort to treat others as God wants, and strive to bring peace wherever, whenever you can.

    Acts 4:13

When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.

Jesus made an astonishing difference in the lives of Peter and John. They spoke with courage and boldness, and even though they were uneducated, ordinary men, they had a great impact on those who heard them. They were faithful, open, and willing to be used. As a result, they were great witnesses for the Lord and won many souls to Him. Jesus has made an astonishing difference in our lives, too. He has blessed us in countless ways, taken away all our sins, and given us each of us a new heart. The education we have had doesn’t really make a difference, nor do the talents He has given us. All of us who love Him can honor Him by being faithful, open, and willing to be used...and living our lives so people can see that we have been with Jesus.

    John 5:7,8

Sir, the invalid replied, I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me. Then Jesus said to him, Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.

In the passage before this, Jesus
