About this ebook

There are three things you need to know about Marie Harris: 1) She’s fed up with online dating, 2) She’s so fed up, she’s willing to forego the annoyance and consider more creative alternatives, and 3) She knows how to knit.

After the most bizarre first date in the history of dating, Marie is looking for an alternative to men. With the help of her friends, she quickly identifies a few possibilities: Need a cuddle? Use a professional cuddler. Need affirmation? Get yourself a life coach. Need an orgasm? Try orgasm meditation! Why does she need the hassle of a romantic partner when she can meet all her needs with paid services?

But then her irritating date resurfaces. And he’s not at all the person she thought he was. And he suggests a different—and crazier—solution to her dilemma . . .

    Dating-ish by Penny Reid (Audiobook)
Series: Knitting in the City book 6
    Narrated by: Joy Nash

5 Stars - LOVED LOVED LOVED this book. I loved Matt! He was so nerdy/honest/forthright and it was awesome. Loved the way he talked, the language he used. Marie was an open and honest person and perfect for him. I think he maybe my favourite hero so far in this series.. well until Dan.. I can't wait for his story!!

I think Joy Nash did a fantastic job narrating this story!

5 "The Sine to His Cosine" Stars! There are so many interesting aspects to this unique romance that it's hard to distill it down to just a few memorable points for a review. That said one of the messages that I loved the most about this story is that it proves that everyone has their own special someone who complements them best. Sometimes even the hero or heroine can be fooled--as was the case here--where Mr./Ms. Wrong turns out to actually be Mr./Ms. Absolute Right. Moreover, I also really enjoyed how this story makes you ponder just what is "dating" or a "relationship" or even "being in love" and what we should truly be looking for in our life mate.Marie Harris is just about to give up on online dating when she hits the lottery with a "perfect match" on the online dating site she is using. She's never had a "perfect match" before, so she goes on the date only to have one of the worst dates ever! That's it she's done. There has to be a better alternative to dating. So, since she is a reporter, she decides to investigate the options for an upcoming article. Perhaps there is a way to fulfill the individual needs that a significant other fulfills, such as by hiring "professional cuddlers" and life coaches and the like to fulfill each one of our needs.Just as she's about to embark on this adventure she is doubly surprised when she finds out that her disaster date, Professor Matt Simmons, is none other than her friends' neighbor. Even worse, their "disaster date" was all part of a science experiment to create an AI (artificial intelligence) "companion robot", and Matt is still seeking her consent to use the data he gathered on their date! When Marie decides to exchange tit for tat though by leveraging her consent on Matt sharing his data for her article, the two begin to develop a symbiotic, indispensable relationship. However, the more they grow together, the more interesting and confused things become. Can two people who were convinced that love can be replaced by artificial things ever find a HEA with another person? As always, Ms. Reid does a fabulous job of spinning a fresh and new love story--it is stories like these that keep me coming back time and again to the romance genre. Just when I think I have read every possible romance tale or trope imaginable, a great witty author like Ms. Reid will come along and wow me yet again with a heartfelt, inspiring tale that triggers all those butterflies that keep me coming back to search for more!Source: Review copy provided for review purposes.

Probably my favorite from the series after Janie and Quinn's story, or maybe even as much as Janie and Quinn's. I think I liked it best because it was the most down to earth--no secret billionaires or former CIA spies, no one being held at gunpoint or kidnapped and held hostage. It just focused on Marie and Matt and unlike the other books there was no major crisis at the end where all the knitters (improbably) came together to save the day. It was just a simple romance where two people were plagued by miscommunication and misunderstanding. It was a little frustrating toward the end--there were a few scenes where it seemed like things should have been resolved (the hotel in New York or the car ride after the hospital) where the conversation should have naturally had them asking each other more straightforwardly what the other wanted--but then the dinner/club scene wouldn't have happened.

Another great book in this wonderful series. We finally get to Marie's story, and I'm very pleased that she's matching up with Dr. Matt, Fiona's neighbor. Marie is a journalist as well as a devotee of online dating. She's confused when her perfect match doesn't seem to jibe with his online profile and angry when it turns out he's really only using her data in the development of is AI compassion robot. Later she finds out he's the guy who lives next to her friend Fiona and who Fiona once babysat for (Fiona's husband Greg likes to remind everyone that Fiona saw Matt's penis). Marie decides to write an article about Matt's AI development project as well as other ways humans can avoid loneliness. One of the things I like about these books is the focus on issues in the real world. Ms. Reid is a wonderful writer with empathic characters and witty dialogue, but she also sneaks in interesting tidbits ranging from bitcoin to dependence on foreign oil. Here the focus is on AI as that's Matt's field of expertise. She makes interesting points on the use of robots and if they can take the place of human contact without taking away from the building romance between Marie and Matt. Another great book in this series.

It's okay for me to love an author's work and not love some of her characters right ? It's feel wrong and I'm internally whining about it. I just don't have the "I want to have coffee with her" feelings for Marie. I need to feel for a character before I cuddle with them or share my coffee time, it's sacred. It's not you it's me Marie, :P. She was so focused on finding alternatives to physical love. so able to distance herself. I never felt the heart tugging struggle for this relationship from her. Matt, it took me a while to warm up to him, but I did. I wanted him to find happiness beyond his lab and cheered him on through all his blunders. ~SIgh~ I still never felt the desperation for them to get together as a couple as I have in previous books. It all worked out in the end, it always does in Penny Reid books. I already downloaded the next book, Kat's story. There should be some serious Chicka Chicka Boom Boom moments in this one :P. I'm off the the coffee shop to begin their adventure.

Marie and Matt - my favourite Knitting in the City story; probably because of all the nerdy puns.
