Introduction
Welcome to the first Roehampton Writing Society Anthology. Within are words from ten individuals with very different writing styles, though they all share one quality – the desire to be heard. Find a quiet corner, or just block out the world, and experience some new voices in poetry and prose.
Bob Kesh
Bob Kesh is a writer and musician from London. He joined Roehampton University in 2009, studying Creative Writing and Journalism. After one year he was removed from the Creative Writing course, and now studies Film and Journalism.
He maintains writing as his primary passion and currently writes for the Kerosene Chronicle blog: www.kerosenechronicle.wordpress.com.
Euphoria, death, destruction and the absurdity of life are recurring themes in his work. Bob Kesh is in the midst of work on his first novel, Perfume and Cigarettes, about women, self-destruction and circumcision.

Walking that Good Road into the Warm Sun
(Yellow Springs)
When will I straighten up and end this good road into the warm sun?
When will it be easy as a cool breeze?
When will the young girls dust their knees?
- be dusty a little longer.
When will the clock stop telling me it's tomorrow?
- let me ride this day out.
When will this town fit? Outgrown and afflicted.
Walk on through and out, into the black night.
And like tired trees we lean against the world.
When will the moon howl for me?
- I'm tired of howling for you.
And when will the hair on my chest be enough to keep me warm for the winter?
When will there be enough tobacco?
- when Sherlock Holmes stops smoking?
When will this acid wear out?
It's been a lifetime now,
- watching as some astral spirit.
When will the devil tell us his name is really Benjamin?
- he plays the blues and feels pain like the rest of us,
always questioning our answers.
When will the proud chefs give up their recipes?
The Yellow Springs are calling.
When will my eyelids keep out the light?
And Autumn,
When will your warm colours glow in my window?
Fill the streets with fire and trickle down to the ground below.
- forever framed picture in my mind.
When did your mist drift down from the mountains and settle on the moors?
Did Dylan see this too?
His books now dog-eared and yellow on my shelf.
When will your hair hang down your back?
When will you show?
Brown and soft,
like the new dawn’s sun,
the hollow gem of light.
And these forests, who bear fruit just to spread their seed.
- are we really so different?
Fallen from some lost tree,
somewhere in the garden,
hiding, amongst the vegetation.
- where do your songbirds sleep? I never see them sleep.
When will the new year feel fresh? Slapped on top of stale Rye.
And what happened to the millennium?
When did the celebration end?
Snuffed out glow of nights before,
where do you go?
When did we first look up and wonder where the circle began?
When will these words weather?
In a hundred years will their meaning still remain?
I know these words are not the same as a hundred years before,
club and fang now law and order,
innocence and rebellion,
old or dead.
When will I arrive the same as I left?
A hundred times arrived, a hundred times a year.
Never familiar,
- daylight seems to crawl,
nowadays I can’t wait to see the sun.
- where did we come
