Americans look towards the stock market with fear and cluelessness, most of the time, with the pre-established idea that it is too complicated and too huge to understand and interpret. The famous Wall Street Bull is a great analogy to public opinion regarding the market as a whole. A massive, yet elusive stoic power, inspiring fear for the damage it can do. We are aware of how it can affect everyday life, and we blame it for any downfall in the economy, even though we may not understand why and how everything happens.
In 2008, America faced a financial dark period largely blamed to poor trading from large banks in the stock market, along with their harmful common practice of accepting bad loans. People questioned at the time why were these banks allowed to basically gamble away their money without consequences, as the everyday citizen can't possibly refrain from paying the lowest taxes without facing harsh consequences.
