About this ebook
This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of the Ministry of the Word are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore seven topics, from different verses in the books of Amos, Jonah, Zephaniah, and Zechariah. They are: Building the temple of the Lord; A famine of God’s word; Jonah; Heeding God’s voice; Building the temple of the Lord; City of truth; and Zion.
Excerpts:
Building the temple of the Lord
“As she listens, she grows and the operation of being built up continues in her. We need to take whatever advantage that we can get to be built up. Jesus is the branch being referred to in the focus verse, which will branch out from the Jewish nation to embrace gentiles (and Jews) (Ephesians 2:13-22), and build our lives.”
A famine of God’s word
“But, when there is no hunger and thirst for the word, then we have a problem. We are setting ourselves up for a famine of the word.”
Jonah
“In chapter three, he spoke the word of God to the people of Nineveh and they repented from their evil way and God did not fulfil his word of judgment on them which he had declared through Jonah. And in the fourth chapter Jonah expressed his anger against God for not unleashing his anger on Nineveh, and God spoke to him a third time to correct his perception of his justice.”
Heeding God’s voice
“We have been given the Holy Spirit, not as spiritual decoration but to enable us to press into divine things. Paul wrote to the Corinthian church that the carnal mind, the fleshly mind does not receive the things of the Holy Spirit, because they are foolishness to them, but we have the Spirit of God, and can know the things God has freely given to us which he has revealed to us by his Spirit (1Corinthians 2).”
City of truth
“We parry the fiery darts of the enemy which comes in the form of deception, and other forces of satanic machinations are put under check as we defend our city of truth.”
Zion
“On the mountain of holiness we are restored. Man was made holy, made to stand on that mountain, but got dragged down to the mud of ignominy because of sin. But Jesus has come to clean him up and lead him by the Holy Spirit up that mountain again.”
