PROLOG
Wnewch chi adrodd stori i mi, Mam?
gofynnodd geneth wyth mlwydd oed gyda gwallt tywyll cyrliog a llygaid tywyll.
Pa stori hoffet ti ei chlywed, Moira?
gofynnodd Keita wrth iddi gynhesu llaeth ar dân yr aelwyd, llewys ei ffrog wlân werdd syml wedi’u torchi allan o’r ffordd yn dwt wrth iddi droi.
Gan wylio’i mam, estynnodd Moira geuled o’r oen a laddwyd y diwrnod cynt, Dywedwch wrtha’ i am ein pobl.
Mae ein teulu wedi byw ar yr ynys hardd hon am genedlaethau lawer, mor hir nad oes neb yn gwybod yn iawn pa bryd y daethom ni yma o’r tiroedd eang yn y de. Mae amser wedi newid ein hiaith, yn enwedig nawr fod y Sacsoniaid wedi cymryd nifer o’r ffermydd yr oeddem ni’r Dobunni yn eu cadw ar y cyd ac yn eu hamddiffyn o’n bryngaerau. Ond tua phedwar can mlynedd yn ôl, newidiodd concwerwyr o le pell o’r enw ‘Rhufain’ fwy byth ar ein tiroedd. Ar y cyfan, eisiau’n tiroedd ni iddyn nhw’u hunain mae’r Sacsoniaid, ond roedd y Rhufeiniaid yn wahanol. Y peth ydi, weli di, roedden nhw’n ein gweld ni fel pobl israddol, yn enwedig ein harferion, fel y ffaith fod y tir yn eiddo’r gymuned, fod merched a dynion yn gyfartal, ein crefydd, a, ti’n siŵr o werthfawrogi hyn: roedden nhw’n meddwl ein bod yn is na nhw oherwydd yr hyn ydym ni’n ei fwyta.
Tynnodd Moira ddau ddarn o ddefnydd wedi’i wehyddu dros ddwy bowlen las wrth i Keita dywallt y ceuled caws yn ofalus o'r pot stemiog i mewn i bob powlen, Ond roeddem ni’r Dobunni yn hoffi’r Rhufeiniaid, oedden ni ddim?
"Rydym ni Dobunni’n casáu rhyfel − yn wahanol i nifer o’n cymdogion. Pan ddaeth y Rhufeiniaid, roedd yn haws i ni adael iddyn nhw wneud fel yr hoffen nhw na cheisio’u herio fel y gwnaeth nifer o’n cymdogion − yma ym Mhrydain yn ogystal â’n cefndryd yn Gâl. Tra’r oedden nhw’n barod i adael i ni fod, i ganiatáu i ni addoli Cuda ym mryniau’r
