We go to school, continuing education, conferences and seminars; we read books and watch TV and Youtube.com, frequently with the intention of learning new things. My personal learning focus has been to seek peace, health, relaxation, love and happiness in my life. But at the base of it all is the simple truth that I have always known. Joy is my main goal in life. My studies have provided me with knowledge that has helped me and others around me to be happier. I have spent thousands of dollars encountering this valuable education and sense of restorative inner joy. The teachings have helped me learn how to weave my thinking around the obstacles in life while maintaining happiness most of the time. My hope is to provide you with many routes to the destination of happiness.

I recommend taking a journey into your mind; into learning what you already know. Take a hike down a path that leads you deep inside of you. Discover your intuition and consciousness, and allow them to tutor you.

It has been said that we use less than 10% of our mind’s capacity. I truly believe that my mind, your mind, the universal mind is capable of so much more than it is being used for. If only we knew how to power it up to a higher gear. It is as though we have been gifted a complicated mind computer without any manual of instruction. There are many incredible programs already preloaded, but we don’t even know how to access most of them. So, we go about our tasks day in and day out using the few functions we have discovered and mastered: calendar, e-mail, blank document and an occasional game of Solitaire.

Our minds seem to control our whole existence. Where we go, what we do and how we interpret or react to what goes on around us. Thoughts control our emotions and even our health. If only we could learn to free our minds from daily stress and mind clutter. Would bliss fill the void? Would there be more room for peace, compassion and joy to replace the mayhem created by our busy lifestyles? I have been on a hunt for the true source of happiness which is within each of us and our thought patterns. I have been seeking and creating thought exercises that will help us take more control of our present and future.

You may not think that you have time to add exercises to your current schedule? There is down time created by transportation, TV commercials, standing in line, enjoying children at play, brushing your teeth, or staring at your partner from across the dinner table. These are all opportunities to tap into your true selves and create moments of complete joy and happiness.

Most of our lives we spend on auto pilot. We don’t take a moment to choose the way we want to think or feel about any event or conversation. We think that we are trapped by the events in our lives when, really, we are trapped by our own mindsets. It takes determination, at first, to get out of the routine responses that fill our daily lives. It takes a deliberate mental effort to pause and to reflect on what has happened and how we feel about it. It takes conscious control to achieve our goal of happiness. Persistence is needed to build patterns that remind us to stop and consider that we can choose to feel happy or at least not upset about any situation, knowing that, in some way, our choice of happiness is possible and will ultimately be to our benefit.

One of the answers to gaining control of our thoughts is finding stillness of mind. It is said that we find peace, inspiration, answers and a loving spiritual connection to all that exists, by quieting the constant chatter in our minds.

You will find many exercises in this book that are designed to help you control your thoughts and/or help you live in the present moment.

    WHY WRITE THIS BOOK? :

I have had formal training in 9 healing modalities. I love learning and sharing what I have learned. A dear friend told me that it was time for me to share what I know with others by writing a book. He should know about the need to share knowledge. He has written at least 10 books in his lifetime, a few of which have been translated into several languages. I have always wanted to spread knowledge through teaching. I’ve taught children and adults. Writing has the potential of sharing experiences with more people. Thanks to Mario Farina for the inspiration to write this guide to happiness.

Through researching many books, CDs, DVDs, products and classes, I have found some wonderful information that has helped me gain more control of my thoughts and my life. My goal is to give you a jump start into various ways that you can create your self-transformation. I intend to wet your pallet with anecdotes from various authors. If you like their flavor, then you can go to the internet, store or library to learn more from them. This guide is a sampling of various thoughts and subjects. I do not intend to go into great detail on anything as other authors have already done such a wonderful job at that.

    HOW TO USE THIS BOOK:

The format of this book was developed in recognition of the varied options and classes that exist and the individual interests of many readers. You may be curious to investigate areas that are not as mainstream as others, while concentrating more on familiar applications. You do not need to read this book in order. You can open it randomly and read a few pages. You don’t have to follow a set class schedule. You can start with the subject that peaks your interest.

I’m a kinesthetic learner. I like to participate in my lessons so that I can experience them tactilely. That is why you will find so many exercise breaks in each classroom subject. You do not have to do the exercises to gain insight and methods to achieve more happiness. The exercises and extra credit journaling give you the opportunity to stop and experiment with your thoughts.

This guide can be used by any person no matter their religion or non-religion. All people believe they are connected to a higher source or knowing either within themselves or beyond themselves, or both combined. It is the powerful core of our knowledge and sense of being. I refer to this as Source Energy, whereas you might prefer to substitute the title of God, intuition, or universal energy.

Pack up your supplies and get ready for class, the bell is about to ring. On the way out, please check the blackboard for a list of classes and the bulletin board for an announcement.
