    Longing for your presence

    Psalm 42:1,

"As the deer pants for streams of water, s

o my soul pants for you, my God."

In Psalm 42, David expresses the desire of his heart to be in the presence of the living God. His soul pants for the Lord the way a deer pants for the streams of water.

Longing for God’s presence is an expression of our deepest desire to be in the fellowship of the Lord. All of us experience God at various occasions and sundry times in our lives. Some of us are open and sensitive to His presence while others try to hide this experience by giving false names to it. Irrespective of how we respond to God’s desire to be with us, our heavenly father and creator want to bless us with His divine presence.

His presence brings a deep sense of peace, joy and love that surpasses all human understanding and knowledge. The peace that that dwells in His presence is independent of what we have and where we are in our faith journey.

We may come to Him broken, disheartened and frustrated, but go out content and joyful in God’s freedom that Jesus earned for us on cross. Our eternal shepherd takes us to the springs of fresh water to strengthen our souls and fill us with His grace to lead a life in all its abundance.

God is indeed our deepest desire that can never be fulfilled by any human or worldly wealth. Some of us deny this truth and try to make cisterns to run away from the wellspring. But all these pursuits leave us empty and broken. We can never attain the peace and joy that the living God offers. We might carve images and idols to replace the living God in our lives, but our own creation can never take the place of our creator, who is, who was and who is to come!

Why everyone doesn’t have a longing for the Lord? Why some of us are insensitive to his presence?

The answer lies in the fact that we have changed the focus and meditation of our hearts. We see what we see, leaving no scope for faith to believe the unseen. We are too much occupied with what we have that we don’t actually need God in our lives. We are so much concerned about where we are going, that we have completely forgotten where we have come from.

God desires to be in our fellowship as much as we long to be in His presence. In His love, God speaks through different ways to bring his lost sheep back to the sheepfold. The creation speaks about the glory of the creator.

Listen! Who controls life and death? Who is the one who fashioned us in the womb of our mothers? God knew you and me even before we came into existence.

Who created the stars? Do they come into existence by themselves? Who has put a boundary around the sea? Who provides life and food to the smallest of the living creatures that are not even seen by naked eyes? Who has given wisdom to little birds that they gather food for their young ones?

Doesn’t it all speak about the love of God? Who could give such love to His creation if not the perfect God? Why is it too hard for some of us to accept that we are and will always be deeply loved by our creator who expresses His love in ways that are sometimes hard to comprehend? What went wrong that we have become so insensitive to the presence of the one who makes us whole and from whom we have all come from?

Listen! God is love. Look around; See with open eyes and with enlightened eyes of faith. You will surely find Him standing beside you with open arms to accept you the way you are. Call Him!

    Jesus, My king

Thank you that you loved us and sent your Holy Spirit as a deposit guarantee of our inheritance in you. Enable us to know you and see your mighty hand in your creation.

And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins.—Mark 2:22

    Old and New order

    2 Cor. 5:17,

"If anyone is in Christ he is a new creation,

the old is gone the new has come!"

Someone who has accepted Jesus as his Lord and Saviour can’t follow Christ unless he deliberately leaves behind the old order of things. The verse emphasizes that the moment someone realizes that he is in Christ, he becomes a new creation. New creation reflects itself by new pattern of thoughts and a new way of life. New creation longs for spiritual food like a baby craves for milk. New creation begins to rejoice in what pleases God and weeps for what persecutes Christ.

With new order of life, new challenges begin to appear in our lives. It’s imperative that a child of God allows the work of God to finish in him in order to walk under the new way of life. New order demands full submission as Paul says in 1Cor.9:27, I beat my body to bring it under complete submission. Every believer is supposed to imitate this attitude for following Christ is a daily exercise that demands not only our willingness but also the full participation of our mind, thoughts, and other members of the body.

Unless a child of God is determined to follow Christ with full devotion and renewed state of mind, he won’t be able to finish the mark for which God has called him in Christ. The one who keeps looking back won’t get anywhere and is of no use in the Kingdom of God.

Turning into new order that Christ has set aside for us is a life long journey but it begins reflecting through a renewed state of mind. Renewed mind that’s been captured by the beauty of Christ constantly examines the origin of his thoughts. A child of God who is empowered by renewed mind (2Cor. 10:5) takes every thought captive to make it obedient to Christ. If this exercise is not followed diligently, the mind becomes a battle field of flesh and spirit that puts the child of God in a restless situation. Unless there is peace in the members of body, Spiritual blessings will not find a way to manifest in our lives.

Renewed mind opens our eyes to see that we have become a new creation in Christ. Renewed mind reminds the believer that he is a precious child of God, washed in the blood of the lamb and bought for a price. A child of God needs to guard his new identity from the deception of the enemy.

Renewed mind, under the power of the Holy Spirit, knows his authority and controls the mouth, tongue and other members of the body thus enables us to offer perfect praise to the most high God as Paul says in Romans 12:1, Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

Renewed mind knows the voice of the Lord and doesn’t take heed to the deception and lie of the one who comes to steal, kill and destroy.

New wine can’t be put into old wineskin nor can new law of spirit rule over someone who walks under the old order. Let’s embrace the new order of things and seek the Lord in the newness of heart, mind soul and spirit.

    Jesus, My King

Reign in us and let your divine word make us new. Empower us to accept the change that your Holy Spirit brings into our lives and strengthen us to walk in the new order of things to bring glory to your name.

Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.—Luke 17:21

What is the Kingdom of God like to?

    Luke 13:18,

What is the Kingdom of God like to? It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree and the birds of the air perched in its branches. Again what shall I compare the Kingdom of God to? It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed it into a large amount of flour until it worked all through the dough.

Kingdom of God spreads in myriad ways yielding harvest at different times. The verse above talks about two ways through which the Kingdom of God grows, i.e.—mustard seed way and yeast way. Both ways work differently and both are equally significant to spread the Kingdom of God.

    Mustard seed way

    Mustard seed

Small in size—Indicates that the significance of the work cannot be judged by the way it appears on the surface. Any amount of work done to spread the Kingdom has a great value in the sight of the Lord. Whatever is done under the guidance of the Holy Spirit whether small or big bears fruit for the praise of God’s glory.

Know where you are planted—Parable tells us that the man planted the seed in his garden which signifies the importance of working within the parameters of one’s gifts and talents.

The Kingdom works begins with identifying your garden—your strength, skills, your God given talents and gifts. Not just that, ascertain what your limitations are, and get a complete picture of what you have to offer to the Kingdom of God. Remember that it’s not what you have that makes you greater and smaller in the service of the Lord but how willing you are to offer that makes you a diligent worker in the kingdom. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit work hard with whatever little or great you have without comparing it with others. The Lord will bless you for your sincere efforts!

Takes time to grow—Kingdom of God takes time to grow and sometimes it takes years before you see fruit of your hard work. This calls for patience on the part of those who work diligently for the Lord. Don’t get impatient or frustrated if you don’t see harvest for a long time. It is coming and it is coming in abundance to satisfy you and others.

Birds of the air perch in its branches—Kingdom work in twofold ways—It blesses not only the worker but also the people around him, the community, and the whole world. So keep working for the Lord for you may not know how your work will turn into a great blessing to many.

    Yeast way

    Yeast

Active in nature—Yeast is active is nature and so is the Kingdom of God. It spreads and rejuvenates the worker and fills him with a desire to do more for the Lord.

Do you feel a strong desire to work for the Lord? Are you ready to move forward for the sake of the kingdom with a sure determination to bring many to the cross? It’s a good sign. Don’t let your spiritual fervour ever leave you, for this is the only ingredient that will bring a great harvest and add many to the kingdom of God.

Mixed with large amount of flour—No amount of knowledge of the word of God is going to bring forth fruit unless it is mixed with the fire and passion for the Lord and His people. Mix your passion with your knowledge of the word of God to see great results.

Spending time in the presence of the Lord is the only way to turn a tiny spark of love for the Lord into great consuming fire to bring many to His throne!

Yeast works through the dough quickly—Keep up your courage and if you don’t give up, you will see great harvest in no time. All for the praise of His glory!

God uses different ways to spread his Kingdom based on our willingness, knowledge of His word and faith. Don’t judge the significance of your work by what you have, rather be a diligent worker with whatever you have with willingness to give all to Jesus.

    Jesus, my King

Your word tells us that the Kingdom of God is within us. Let your spirit empower us to know our true identity in the light of your word and make us live a life that glorifies you and bring many to your kingdom.

Built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.—Ephesians 2:20

    The Wise and Foolish Builders

    Matthew 7:24,

Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.

The verse above talks about two builders—wise and foolish, and also the characteristic that distinguishes wise from foolish builders.

Wisdom is not in accumulation of heaps of information with an intention to gain applause from others but in its application in real world situations. Information is exploding at an enormous rate and it is really hard to stay tuned to everything happening around us, but does it really make sense to gain knowledge without moving forward to apply it for the benefit of others?

The same principle applies to the word of God. Mere listening to the word will not take us anywhere
