- The Chronicles of Devi: Cosmos & Mahisha
The Chronicles of Devi is an eternal story... The celebration of triumph of a single woman and her lion over the forces of evil. A story which celebrates the power of a unique woman who could create life as well as destroy to save her creation. Billions of years ago, a wonderful experiment started on planet Bhuvan when a celestial woman, DEVI puffed life on Bhuvan. As Bhuvan rotated on its axis, the celestial rondures churned to create three worlds on it. The radiant white orbs created the upper-earth called Swarg, the warm green orbs created the middle-earth Dharti and dark black orbs created under-earth Patal. In their final moments, each rondure expanded till it burst open like a seed pod and revealed a fully developed yet sui generis life form. Devi had not imagined that her creations would spawn so rapidly and be so quickly consumed by their own lust, greed, gluttony, pride, and envy to a degree that would threaten the very existence of the planet, Bhuvan, also called Earth, that nurtured them. She knew that the intelligence she imparted to the humans was a double edged sword—one that could be used to deepen their knowledge beyond known realms, but at the same time could annihilate its user if in wrong hands. Devi knew this before she sparked the helix of human life. She smiled knowingly as she did it, but she wanted to see how the humans dealt with the issue of right and wrong when they encountered it amongst their own kind. It was an experiment for her to create bigger universes. Today she was amused, but even more irritated. The world that she had created with such love was facing a threat to its survival. Such was the irony that the very hands which rose toward her begging for help, and the hands which ominously threatened to chop them off, all belonged to her own children. But Devi had no doubt in her mind. She knew how to pacify them both. A motherly glance which can soothe even the most troubled heart instantaneously, or a swift blow to knock one senseless—both of these were at her command and she would not hesitate to use them. Mahisha need to be taught a lesson. Attempting to become the new lord of universe, the fool was not only attempting to challenge Devi’s own authority but was also tormenting others to an unconscionable degree. And then Devi came to Bhuvan in the form of Mahalakshmi. A woman and her lion who became a legend, Together they fought, to vanquish the evil on Bhuvan and restore the balance of nature, Read the book for an exhilarating journey of creation of life, an unprecedented cataclysm and the ultimate triumph .

The Chronicles of Devi - Cosmos & Mahisha is my second book. The good response to my first book The Himalayan Revelation has encouraged me to continue penning my effervescent ruminations. I am an engineer by education and a technologist by profession and more than anything else I love travelling and exploring new places.During my two decade active corporate career and travels into the lap of nature and history, I have came across many people, places and the tales associated with them which have left me enriched by some told and some often untold stories. The Himalayas of Ladakh and Hampi are couple of those places which have left an everlasting impression on me. Their enigmatic environs hide many tales inside them, some of which have been passed from one generation to another. The Himalayan Revelation is my attempt to weave in some of those tales in a modern context. Though it is purely a work of fiction but the story is developed using facts gleamed from history and modern times. In The Chronicles of Devi, I have attempted to tell a story which has captivated many minds for generations. Our ancient literature is full of enchanting stories. But most of these stories are hidden in the beautiful intricacies of Sanskrit in Vedas, Purans, and Shlokas. I have picked one such gem and have narrated this story in my own modernistic interpretation while keeping its essence intact- it is a story of a single woman and her lion fighting the forces of evil to preserve the balance of nature.I hope you like both the books.Pankaj
