WakeUp: Food For Thought
()
About this ebook
A collection of poems and short articles to make you ponder about life. A lot of times when we feel depressed, reading encouraging stories or thought provoking articles helps lift our mood. Maybe right now you are feeling sad or wishing that life could have been better or maybe you are frustrated and angry with someone; whatever your state, hopefully at least one of the topics in this book will strike a chord with you; hopefully at least one of them will make you feel optimistic in life; hopefully one of them will inspire you.
Written based on a variety of subjects - an old man sipping tea, the craze of love, thoughts from a girl’s view, the desires we chase, the mask we wear, our wavering mind, enthusiasm of a young kid, perseverance of a baby, our violent nature, commitment to our work, our addiction to social networking, not getting rewards for our efforts, worst form of punishment, life without technology.
Cheer up. Embrace life.

What’s in a used piece of paper?
If you had a piece of paper filled with writing, would you think twice before you trashed that paper (assuming you don’t need the written content any more)? Would you even think once?
There were a couple of blind kids sitting together in their hostel room. One boy, while going through the notes written by the other boy, started scolding, Hey, you are wasting a lot of paper with the way you are writing? I’ll show you how you can write more in a page.
Saying so, he pulled the other boy’s hand and made him feel the dots that he had freshly made. You can write a lot more like this.
And then he added, We hardly get enough laboratory books to write on; don’t waste pages.
Blind students write in Braille–a language where they have to punch holes in the paper to form characters; different combinations of 6 holes are used to form alphabets. The students write in used laboratory books of school/college students since the paper in those books is thicker than the regular notebook paper. Here was a boy who was worried about wasting used paper while I would have thrown a paper even though it had plenty of white space!
I wonder if we really value what we have or what we get. We take things for granted – not just paper or material items but even relationships.
Only when what we have is taken away do we realise its value.
Social Networking
Daily we spend long on Facebook,
trying to keep up a good outlook.
Out here it's hard to spot a crook
and no one knows where all you look!
From here we get to know about marriage
and to where someone goes on a voyage.
People update every single hour their image,
even something as trivial as putting garbage!
We look at what others put as status,
from one to another we browse aimless.
It’s a great place to express opinion,
because someone or other shows appreciation!
With every post we hope to become famous
& the number of likes makes some jealous.
Be it work or home people are truly addicted,
because they keep counting the likes that are listed!
Pretty pics attract many a user's eye,
but people don't realise who all spy.
You'd be surprised who all can see you,
Google your name will give you a clue.
If a beloved doesn't approve, you get worried,
and in case they do then you feel gloried.
So now let me go and post this poem online,
and see who all comment with a positive sign!
Spare a thought – isn’t it frightening to think of how social networking has impacted our lives?
The fine print
A friend told me how he signed up for a scheme which promised to double his money in 3 years by investing in the stock market. The telemarketing agent even assured him that his investment would be protected and that there was no way the premium would be lost. My friend signed up and, 3 years later discovered that his investment was worth only 50% in value because of the stock market crash. The salesman might have
