About this ebook
With a fresh approach to a common problem, this self-help guide to overcoming back pain advocates adopting the natural, healthy posture of athletes, young children, and people from traditional societies the world over. Arguing that most of what our culture has taught us about posture is misguided—even unhealthy—and exploring the current epidemic of back pain, many of the commonly cited reasons for the degeneration of spinal discs and the stress on muscles that leads to back pain are examined and debunked. The historical and anthropological roots of poor posture in Western cultures are studied as is the absence of back pain complaints in the cultures of Africa, Asia, South America, and rural Europe. Eight detailed chapters provide illustrated step-by-step instructions for making simple, powerful changes to seated, standing, and sleeping positions. No special equipment or exercise is required, and effects are often immediate.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Review from reading, not from putting it into practice. Going to try some of the ideas but there's a queue in the library for it.Whether or not it works probably boils down to if it's your style or right for you, rather like a lot of other things.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wonderful pictures and well organized. Studying the book, and finally taking the course, fixed my back. I am still reviving muscles that I neglected for the middle part of my life.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Really excellent. Ms. Gokhale can be thought of as the Weston A. Price of back health. I've been putting her techniques into use for a few weeks now and they definitely help. The hardest part is just that it forces you to relearn instinctual movements for standing, sitting, etc., that you've been doing for decades. I think it's worth it, though, as I strongly suspect that correcting posture-related issues will prevent even worse future problems with your body. And, once you do learn the correct stances/techniques, there's no need to take further time out of your day with special exercises -- the techniques will be integrated into your daily life. Especially recommended for those interested in ancestral health topics (particular those who have back pain, of course!).
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I've read numerous books over the years related to back pain, and tried the programs they recommend. I have had more success with the approach outlined in thisw book than with any other I've tried. The focus is on lengthening the spine and using proper posture to keep from putting it into harmful positions. Of course, there's no telling how it will help anyone else, but it's been quite useful for me.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Unreadable, the last word of each line is rendered on top of the beginning of the next line.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5The words are overlapping and this causes difficulty in reading. Someone should reupload this book.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5What is wrong with the formating of this book on Scribd? Can't read any of it. Words appear on top of each other on my display... is anyone experiencing that also?
