Oh. My. God. I'm in total fangirl mode right now. My reaction to this books is a surprise to me, don't know where in the book I started swooning that made me end it squealing like a silly teenage girl (definitely not a teenager). Dank definitely got my heart all-a-flutter every time he appears in the story (and yes I do remember it's a story). A really good cover choice it gave the perfect guy to picture, and cover boy could certainly make me think it was all real.

So Pagan and Dank? The names definitely threw me for a loop, I thought what unfortunate names for characters. I didn't think the book was about atheism or depressing weather but the names certainly has a darkness and sadness to them. I guess I really needed to find meaning in the names for the story, and the story's supernatural element had a kind of darkness to it and Death or the Grim Reaper himself always brings that edge of darkness and creepiness. With Dank I more felt sadness and regret. His existence was one of emptiness and loneliness, he must live without ever experiencing the love of another, that was until he met Pagan.

Pagan can see the souls of the dead as far back as she can remember. These souls never talked back and always seemed lost and confused but mostly they annoyed her. So when she saw Dank, talkative and aware, she was surprised, annoyed as usual but ambivalent about having this unusual soul around her, she thought she needed to lose his attention quickly. That was so not happening. *swoon*

My brain is a jumbly mess right now so that's all your gonna get outta me on the book.

I really enjoyed this book, at first I wasn't too happy about the drama between Pagan and Dank's inevitable relationship; but to see Pagan's feelings for Dank just slowly creeping up on her was sweet. A very captivating story, on to the next book. No really!

Completed 11/29/18The book read as an unfinished rough draft and the name Dank was such a "nope" that I almost put the book down on the spot.I'm going to finish the series because my OCD will not allow me to walk away and maintain my mental stability, but I do so under duress.

I was swept up by this story of a girl named Pagan who, for reasons unknown, is able to see the souls of the dearly departed. When she meets one who can actually speak to her, she knows something is different about him. After building up to it for 90% of the book, the author finally spells out what sort of being he is. Oh, but that will be no surprise to anyone who's read the opening line of the book description. Ugh! I try to avoid giving more than a cursory glance to most blurbs for just that reason. I hate knowing too much going into a story. It spoils the fun.

This was a very interesting book. Very YA, (I'm 36)but I really enjoyed this, I have a thing for Death, so that doesn't surprise me to much! hehe
The main character was a bit dense sometimes, and things carried on a little too long, but, it was a sweet tale and I look forward to the next in the series.

While I read Existence I had a feeling that someone gave Abbi Glines a list of cliches that irritate me the most in young adult paranormal novels and she used them in this book. For start we have a heroine Pagan, who is just an ordinary girl. Except she is exceptionally beautiful (but is not aware of it), everyone comments about her wonderful & caring personality (but she is quick to form judgement based on prejudice) and is part of ordinary small group of friends (who just happen to be richest girl in town and best athlete in school - yeah real outcasts...).To make it worse, the romance of course had to be a love triangle with two handsome and popular boys, Dank and Leif, fighting for Pagan. It's insta-love! It's dramatic! Oh, whom will she choose?!?! No, it's not obvious at all...I have read some contemporary romance novels by Abbi Glines before and thought about her as an author who can really transfer passion and love between characters to the pages of her novels. But for some reason this didn't happen with Existence. Maybe it's there but all those cliches are blocking me from feeling it.Existence ends with a lot of suspense and a cliffhanger but I think I am going to spare myself and skip reading the rest of this trilogy.IN THE END...If you are a fan of young adult paranormal romance novels and cliches I mentioned do not bother you, then Existence might end up on your favorites shelf. It happened with a lot of my bookworm-friends. As for me, it's just another book which makes me feel like a black sheep...

I wasn't too sure about this book when I first started it. The story was kind of slow going and the dialogue seemed childish. But, once it got to going, I couldn't put it down. I really wanted to know more about Dank. I am totally curious about Lief and really felt for him. I want to know exactly what Pagan's story is and why she can see ghosts. Obviously, the author left some unanswered questions out there (especially the one that goes with the last sentence of the book!) but at least I know there's two more books out there to give me answers. So, yeah, once I got warmed up to it, I really liked this book.

Terribly written, dull, incredibly unsympathetic lead character, awful character names, homophobic jokes, and treating mental illness be as a joke/something pathetic. This book is so terrible it makes me sad.

I loved this book. It drew me in right from the first chapter and wouldn't let me go until I had finished it, and I was already pining for the next book in the series. I fell in love with Dankmar, and Pagan, and I went on to read the rest of the series. I would recommend this trilogy to anyone.

Nothing odd about a girl who sees dead soul's walking around, right? Well, this girl can, but when one talks to her she finds herself in a frightening yet enticing way. But there is something even odder about this man. He interfered in her appointed time. Now Death has to pay the piper.I bought this book based on a review from a friend who has very similar tastes as me in reading material. I lucked out with it being free that day and got it. Then I pushed it up the reading queue and jumped it. I didn't regret it.This book keeps you glued to the pages. There is not a slow part of the book that is so slow that you can put it down and not worry about it for days or find yourself yawning. Yet it is not so fast-paced that your heart is in your throat the whole time. You might think this is an overly used story with the girl falling for one guy yet feeling pulled to another. Well this storyline has been around for a few hundred years or more so get over it. It will always be there. What you need to focus on is the unique twist an author can take with, and this author did just that. The author does a great job in creating a unique situation with the love triangle. Falling in love with Death is not your normal love triangle scene and neither is.... Oops. That would be a big spoiler. Well to find out what I almost let lose you have to read the book. Let's just say the plot is very unique and has many twists and turns that goes beyond just teen romance. The characters in the book are very well done. They are ones you can be sucked into and feel their emotion. In fact, you'll find yourself on an emotional rollercoaster as you read it. The characters are very realistic and relatable. The writing is very intense in the fact that the emotions are high and you feel them as you read. I found my own heart pounding with the main character's and felt her fear. Very well done on that score. If you are a stickler about punctuation and finding not a single editing mistake, you will find a few issues in this kindle version. I noticed a few, but to be honest the story draws you in that they are not important at all. Just warning all those that will have a cow. JI really did enjoy the book and downloaded the next one already. I'm trying to be good and read the ones I need to first, but it is hard.Note: I received this book through a free offering on Amazon with no expectation of a positive review.

I'm pretty sure Dank is the worst character name I have ever come across, in thousands of books. I just can't get past it.

I really, really adored Abbi Glines' contemporary romance novel, The Vincent Boys and so I was extremely eager to read everything else she has published. Existence is nothing like it, of course. It's a paranormal novel and also much shorter. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and I think I can officially call myself a Glines fan! It was a very quick read and ridiculously fun. I was very intrigued by the idea of the protagonist meeting Death himself and entered this one with high hopes.

I guess I'll get the 'negatives' out of the way first. I felt like the description gave away too much. This is actually a problem I have with a lot of books. I'd prefer to not be told what guy is, if the protagonist isn't going to find out until halfway through the book. It just feels like I'm waiting and waiting! Also, Dank was really dramatic at times. I know that it's part of who he is and everything, but it did get a bit cheesy and odd at times. I think that is all the bad things I have to say about this one!

Everything else I loved! I really enjoyed getting to know all of the characters. Pagan (interesting name!) was pretty cool. It was very easy to relate to her and to feel what she was feeling. You could tell she was insanely confused and I felt really sorry for her. She, too, can be over dramatic so I suppose her and Dank are made for each other! However, the character I really loved was Leif. So wonderful! I was craving more scenes with him and was left wishing the book had been all about him with no Dank in sight! He was such a sweetheart and it was impossible not to adore him. He was without a doubt the best character in the entire book.

Existence ends on a massive cliffhanger! I was actually left staring at the page trying to process it. I really didn't see it coming and I have no idea how to feel about it. It certainly left me eager to get to book two which I'll be doing very, very soon. Overall, this was a good start to the series. While not perfect, it was very funny and entertaining. I'm looking forward to seeing how things go from here!

THE COVER OOOOOOOOOOH THAT COVER. YES GOOD JOB YES. Pepe Toth is glory personified. And Sztella too, but all we can see here is her back, but hey, it's glorious too, lol. Oh God those eyes. Moving on!THE STORYWhen I read the synopsis, the story intrigued me. Death falling in love? Yes, please. And the fact that the female lead also had a power made it more interesting. There were a lot of surprises in the end, but I felt like a lot of parts could have been cut out to make the pace better. THE CHARACTERSUnfortunately, Pagan's ability to see souls was the only significant thing about her (until we get to book two, but that's got to wait for now). Like most female main characters in YA, she had to be saved several times. I'm all for butt-kicking girls so that weakness always irks me.Also, even though I swoon every time Dank's in the page, there really wasn't much back-up for their attraction. I won't call it insta-love, though, because Pagan certainly wanted Dank gone at first, thinking he's just another ghost. But I can't blame Pagan because if I were her, I'd fall in love with Dank, too... especially if he looked like Pepe Toth. Moving on!MY FAVORITE PART was every time Dank sung. I'm a sucker for guys who sing and play the guitar. And the author's friend (I think?) recorded Dank's songs. Here are links to Closer and, my personal favorite, Yet You Stay.

OMG!!!! I cannot hardly wait to read Predestined!!!! I found this book to be kinda dark and creepy, but absolutely amazing. Continuously guessing what's going to happen next, but gives you enough to fall completely in love instantly. Dear Dank Walker how do I describe you except by saying I'm completely and totally in love with Dank. Dank is dark, deadly, wrong, scary, mysterious, sweet and completely untouchable. Then we meet Lief Montgomery who seems sweet, loving and innocent and completely in love with Pagan. Pagan is different, she's haunted by ghosts or spirits whatever you want to call them, they're lost souls that wander around, she trys to ignore them, if they don't know she can seem them they'll leave her alone... that is until one of them talks to her... that's never happened before. When Dank shows himself she knows he's not real, he's dead so she trys to not pay him any attention.. until he opens his mouth and speaks to her. Dank is equally shocked she can see him.. that's not suppose to happen. Dank is immediately taken with Pagan.. unfortunately Lief is fighting for her attention and won't be giving up too easily.. so Pagan finds herself having to choice between what she thinks is good.. and evil. Dank's job as always been simply.. take the life when it's there time to go.. then suddenly Pagan's name is one his list of souls to take.. when he goes to see her he realizes the one soul he can never take because he can never live without her.. but he can also never have her. Lief quickly becomes Pagan's comfort zone but that doesn't stop her from being drawn to Dank anytime he's near. When Pagan realizes she's falling for the one soul that was created to be completely soulless, she fights it and try harder to feel something anything for Lief.. only to find she craves Dank more and more. I struggled because my heart never wanted Pagan with Leif.. but I still fell in love with him so much. Dank is hard not to love.. somehow the soulless soul that was never meant to love finds himself completely, obsessively in love with Pagan. He'd do anything to protect her.. even break all the rules."I'm not a man so I do not have a heart that love as a human does. I'm an immortal god that dwells with supreme power because I hold the keys to death. But you are my existence. I am yours." -Dank "Death" Walker"You're the only thing I want most in the world yet the one thing I cannot have. Because to have you completely would be impossible. You cannot go where I walk." -Dank "Death" Walker“My beautiful soul, when you made the ultimate selfless sacrifice it paid my wrong. You proved to be worthy of my devotion. Of Death's...love.” -Dank "Death" Walker“I get to keep you,” he said, staring at me with an intensity that made me shiver. “Keep me?” I asked, reaching up to kiss his chin and trail kisses down his perfect neck. “Not here. I can’t take much more, Pagan. I’m only so strong,” he said in a husky voice as he pulled me against his chest. “You’re mine now. While you walk the Earth you belong to me. Nothing can hurt you. It’s pretty impossible to hurt what Death protects.” -Dank & Pagan“You tempt me. I can't be tempted. I'm not made to be tempted, but you, Pagan Moore, you tempt me. From the moment I came for you I was drawn in. Everything about you..You make me crazy with need. With want. I didn't understand it at first. But now I know. It's your soul calling to me. Souls mean nothing to me. They aren't supposed to. But yours has become my obsession.” -Dank "Death" Walker

Existence(Existence Trilogy, Book #1)by Abbi Glines Genre: Young Adult | Dark Romance | FantasyWhat happens when you're stalked by Death? You fall in love with him, of course. Pagan Moore doesn't cheat Death, but instead, falls in love with him. Seventeen year old Pagan Moore has seen souls her entire life. Once she realized the strangers she often saw walking through walls were not visible to anyone else, she started ignoring them. If she didn't let them know she could see them, then they left her alone. Until she stepped out of her car the first day of school and saw an incredibly sexy guy lounging on a picnic table, watching her with an amused smirk on his face. Problem is, she knows he's dead. Not only does he not go away when she ignores him, but he does something none of the others have ever done. He speaks. Pagan is fascinated by the soul. What she doesn't realize is that her appointed time to die is drawing near and the wickedly beautiful soul she is falling in love with is not a soul at all. He is Death and he's about to break all the rules. My Review: In Breeze, Florida, Pagan is not your usual high school student, mostly for the reason that she has been able to see departed souls her whole life. Yet, on the first day that one of these souls actually interacts with her is the same day she meets the mysterious Dank, who happens to be the Grim Reaper in disguise. While Pagan's social life at school begins to improve due to dating the local football star, Leif Montgomery, who is ridiculously smitten with her. Pagan's home life slowly beings to crumble due to her dark obsession with Dank and his haunting music. And when Dank breaks the rules in regards to Pagan's death, a dire struggle begins for both their lives and the future of any type of relationship between them. What an interesting read. The story flowed smoothly and started out with a fun supernatural twist that eventually went all over the place, setting/location wise (in a good way!), before concluding with an astonishing cliff-hanger. And, as entertaining as this book was, it also carried a dark undertone about deep infatuations toward an individual--almost as if that immense fascination could lead to psychological problems. Lots of enjoyable side-characters that added humor to the story as well as a bit of a love triangle...that I hope will get juicer as the series progresses.Pagan herself was an intriguing character. She began the tale as a solid stable student confident in her tutoring abilities at school and mature about her emotions in regards to a previous relationship that ended the year before, but early on she begins this slipper slop into an erratic and almost delusional world that solely revolves around her feelings for Dank. She beings to frequently abandon her friends, feigns sickness to avoid school, and develops guilty emotions about seeking comfort in the wrong places. Interestingly enough, Pagan kind of goes from one end of the spectrum to the other throughout Existence--being an untroubled well-balanced individual to someone who accepts being grossly over-diagnosed and submitted to a psychiatric hospital. So, expect lots of (distressing) character development! Predestined ( Existence #2 ) -- out now!Likes: I went back and forth a lot about continuing to read further into this series, but I do have the say, the cliff-hanger really drew me in and made me even more curious about Pagan's world now...so I'll definitely be checking out Book #2 soon.Dislikes: What kind of name is Dank? All I could think about was someone clammy or soggy...overall, unpleasantly damp. So, not the best visual for a male protagonist.Chapter One/Paragraph One: "Don't look at him and he'll go away. I chanted in my head, as I walked toward my locker. It took an extreme amount of willpower not to glance back over my shoulder. Not only would alerting him I could see him be pointless but it would also be stupid. The halls were already full of students. Although, if he'd followed me inside the school I would have seen him easily enough through the throngs of people. He would stand out just like they always did, unmoving and watching."Favorite { Scene, Character or Setting }: CharacterLeif Montgomery: Football star with lots of admiring fans and great athletic abilities. "Intense hotness" with baby blue eyes. Has been going to school with Pagan and her friends since they were eleven. Moved "from somewhere up north." Thought of as being an arrogant jock/jerk but turned out to be a nervous student with a learning disability due to his dyslexia speech problem. Stubbornly persistent and very passionate in his relationship with Pagan. Quoted as being the "reigning king" which could be any interesting foreshadowing effect for his character since he becomes a surprisingly pivotal figure at the end of the book.

This book equally had me on the edge of my seat and infuriated me. I must have really gotten into it though because I stayed up late to finish reading it and started the sequel right away. To start, my major dislikes were the NAMES and the lack of character development. Dank and Pagan? Really? Also, I was surprised over how quickly Dank fell in love with her and risked his existence when they seemed to have very few meaningful interactions at the start of the book. Plus, Pagan’s treatment of Leif seemed kind of crappy until the surprised ending kind of made it tolerable. Despite these couple of things, Dank and Pagan were definitely intriguing characters and there were a lot of twists and turns that made it a real page-turner. Four out of five stars.

This is the second book I've read by Abbi Glines and definitely won't be my last. I loved her book, The Vincent Boys, and now Existence. Pagan can see the dead and she has no idea how, or why she can see them. She does her best to ignore them and act as if they aren’t there. But when she spots this boy one morning and he speaks to her, she is taken by surprise. Never has any of the dead try to talk to her. She is intrigued by him, but what she doesn’t know is that he isn’t your average spirit. He’s really Death and is there to collect her soul. The more time she spends with him though, the more she begins to fall in love with him. The same thing is happening to him. When it’s Pagan’s time to go, Dank (aka Death) changes everything and breaks the rules. He saves Pagan and by doing this he sets off a lot of things. The story just got better and better from there. I will say that at first I wasn’t big on Dank and Pagan’s relationship. I just didn’t “feel” it. I actually enjoyed Pagan’s relationship with Leif a bit more. I thought Leif was sexy and his cocky attitude was hot. The way he loved Pagan was also really sweet and a bit romantic. I mean Dank was very dark and mysterious and also a bit cocky, but I felt Pagan spent a lot more time with Leif, so I fell in love with their relationship a little more. The scenes between Dank and Pagan though, were very yummy and fun to read, but to me they just needed a little more. It wasn’t until close to the end of the book that I really got a feel for Dank and Pagan. The ending was a nice shocker. With the way the book ended I wanted to scream, but in a good way of course. I have to know what exactly Dank meant. I was wondering just how Pagan was going to choose and how she would handle everything once the truth came out. She goes through so much and part of it is due to Dank. I just felt so bad for her. Existence is a very good book and held my attention until the very end. Abbi Glines is now on my auto-buy list. I really enjoyed it!4 out of 5 Stars!

Pagan Moore can see dead people. They can’t/don’t talk to her, but she can see them. One day, there appears to be a spirit outside of school. But he can talk. Which shocks her! The fact that she can see him, shocks him! This talking ghost seems to be stalking Pagan Moore. Then one day he enrolls in her High School…and turns out to be the lead singer for the rock group “Cold Soul”…his name is Dank Walker (yes, really.). Dank seems to save Pagan from an almost fatal car wreck…which causes other weird things to happen, including other talking ghosts stalking her. Dank can’t or won’t answer Pagan’s questions and her growing feelings for him and starting to affect her relationship with her quarterback boyfriend. Pagan quests for answers and is surprised by what she finds out.I’ve given Abbi Glines some flak for her choice in names. She did explain that Dank’s whole name is “Dankmar” which means “Famous for his Spirit”. OK, I can see that, but I still think she should have explained that in the book…and maybe not paired it with “Walker” as a last name because the images it conjures for me are of a mostly decomposed zombie walking through a Georgia swamp. LOL, but I’ve totally digressed! When I read the synopsis for this story I thought it was going to be an homage to the movie “Death Takes a Holiday” or the newer version, “Meet Joe Black”…but as usual I was wrong. Wasn’t even close.Death is not taking a holiday, he just becomes fascinated by Pagan. Pagan is a good girl…nice, sweet, is brave enough to share her honest thoughts and feelings about something and is quick to apologize and rectify is she is wrong. She is sensitive to others, and roots for the underdog. Glines gives her characters a good balance of characteristics. They are good with a rebellious streak, or “bad” but totally redeemable. And I’m a sucker for a happy ending…although this ending had quite the cliffhanger! Can’t wait for the next installment, “Predestined”! It’s gonna be GOOD!

Wow! What a cliffhanger! I can't wait for the next book in this series! This was a great read and I had a hard time putting it down. When I first started reading this book, I was a little put off by the main characters names. Pagan? Dank? I don't know where on Earth the author came up with those. Okay, I could live with Pagan, but Dank? Really? Thank goodness I ended up loving these characters.Pagan sees the souls of the dead. They pop up everywhere, but never talk to her—until one actually does. Only he's not the typical dead soul. He (Dank) is something far more than just a soul—he's Death and Pagan's number is up, or it's suppose to be anyway. This book has a way of drawing you in and forces you to keep turning the pages despite the ridiculous names of the main characters. There's romance, mystery, and even a brief stay at a mental institution. Not to mention, what a great book cover! Dank's eyes are just swoon worthy. Existence is a definite MUST read!

He loves Pagan, he sings to her in her sleep, he keeps her safe from harm, etc. He is the PERFECT boyfriend, even though he's death.Just to prove my point, here are some quotes from Dank:“You tempt me.I can't be tempted.I'm not made to be tempted, but you,Pagan Moore, you tempt me.From the moment i came for you i was drawn in.Everything about you.."One of his hands left my waist and moved up to gently caress my arm."You make me crazy with need. With want.I didn't understand it at first. But now i know. It's your soul calling to me.Souls mean nothing to me.They aren't supposed to.But yours has become my obsession.”“You're the only thing I want most in the world yet the one thing I cannot have. Because to have you completely would be impossible. You cannot go where I walk."“I love you,” I said, causing his face to contort in pain.“I’m not a man so I do not have a heart that loves as a human does. I’m an immortal god that dwells with supreme power because I hold the keys to Death. But you are my existence. I am yours.” Hot tears streamed down my face as I stared into the face of someone who comprehended an emotion much stronger than my weak, feeble words of love.”Okay, how could you NOT fall in love with Dank after hearing those words? Oh how i wish he was real!Anyway, i really liked this book although, like i said above, it took too long to get to the point. I mean, I like descriptive writing but not so descriptive that it's slow. I know you need to introduce everything and everyone in the beginning of your story, but you need to do it at the right pace. Not too fast, not too slow.Other than that, I really liked this book and recommend it to fans of the Hush Hush series.
