I received a review copy of this eBook from the author on the understanding that I gave it an honest review, and I'm very sorry to say that I did not enjoy it at all.Although Chloe evidently has a very clear idea of what her world is like and how all of the technology works, this does not come across the text. All of the futuristic gear in the novel is presented with little by way of a description of how any of it functions and nothing is ever really done to establish what Hynocripta is like (the novel indicates that it is a hostile world but we never see anything of it to understand why). The style of prose also makes the story very difficult to get in to as virtually every sentence is active, beginning with a character's name. The characters also show wildly inconsistent reactions to things such as turning pale when someone speaks to them for no apparent reason. Development of characters is also virtually non-existent. Lily's grandmother is horrible to her for no obvious reason, while the animosity towards her father is never really confronted or resolved in the story. Finally, I'm not really sure what kind of audience would appreciate this novel. I was under the impression that it was aimed at middle graders but the text is far to complex and unfriendly to someone of that reading age. I had to re-read some sections to be sure of what was going on and I'm an adult. All in all, I would not really recommend this book. Although the author had a couple of nice ideas, it really did feel that the story needed a good rewrite in order to focus it's plot and grant development to its shallow characters.

"In the early twenty-third century, Cifer Inc. on Earth created Marineland to solve the issue of insufficient lands for human survival. Floats, or states as people before the twenty-second century would call them, were built with fullerenes—"

Light music started in the classroom. Lily had a big grin on her face.

OK, five minutes left for this class, Miss Clerk said as the music played in the background. Let’s discuss your essay due next week.

All the children but one eagerly asked questions. Lily seemed to indulge in her daydream. Andrea hit Lily’s elbow with hers. Wake up, Lil. Class ends.

Lily suddenly came back to reality and smiled at Andrea.

What were you thinking about? Andrea asked.

My pet-rent pack. Lily was overwhelmed with joy.

Oh! Yes! It will arrive tomorrow evening.

Yes! I can’t wait. Lily laughed. Andrea laughed, too.

They stood up and prepared to leave.

Lily, Andrea, please shut down the interface, a smooth voice intoned. A big sad face appeared on each of the projected panels in front of them. Lily opened her mouth, while Andrea made a face. They touched the projected power buttons to shut down.

"Today is pie day," Andrea cheered.

Good, but I prefer fried rice.

Andrea quickly, and almost unnoticeably, frowned. But soon she started to hum a cheerful tune. Lily hummed along with her as they hopped toward the dining hall.

As Lily walked to one service window of the dining hall, the voice of artificial intelligence greeted her.

Good day, Lily. Your lunch today is fish pie, mixed salad without walnuts or mustard, and strawberries.

Lily picked up her lunch tray after the robot arm delivered it. Andrea picked up hers with her salad with walnuts but no mustard. They checked the seat numbers printed on the container lids and headed into the dining hall.

Have you started on your essay? Andrea asked.

I have downloaded all references. I think I will start to write it the day after tomorrow. I am too excited to complete my assignment now. Lily’s eyes sparkled.

If I were receiving my pet-rent tomorrow, I would be the same. I wish I would receive one tomorrow. Andrea pouted slightly.

You will receive one in three months!

Yeah…Hey, have you named your pet-rent yet?

Not yet. I will name it when I see it. Lily seemed to contemplate.

So…You will received a pack with a P-ball and a dog-like pet-rent? Andrea asked.

Yes, I think so.

So…Your P-ball will follow you everywhere besides bedtime, and your pet-rent will be aside you whenever adult supervisions or special robots are not immediately available?

Yes, I suppose.

P-ball sounds like a stalker. Andrea commented.

No, it is not a stalker. It monitors a child’s daily life to provide advises and help on bettering children’s mental health during adolescencehood. Lily responded.

Why did you choose a Weimar as your pet-rent again? My mom said the defection rate of its kind is the highest, Andrea changed discussion focus while opening her lid. She smiled brightly when she saw the pie.

I don’t know. I just fell in love with it when I saw a picture. The corners of Lily’s mouth lifted, but her eyes didn’t smile. She started in on her salad. What are you going to write about for your essay?

The development and influence of eco-friendly American cars in the twentieth century, Andrea answered with her mouth full. Lily frowned a little, and her
