I must be a buccaneering romantic. This book ticked all the boxes for me and it was a real "pager turner", not just one you wanted to read, it was one I HAD to keep on reading.

I really thought that I would like this book. It's not a typical Harlequin Presents book: the setting is the American West, and it involves time travel. But, for some reason, I just couldn't get into this book at all. The hero was a jerk, at one point internally monologuing about how he likes a woman who doesn't want to be equal to men (the exact quote is: "It was just that he didn't go for her type. Independent women, questioning women, ones who thought they were on an equal footing with men... Not that he liked his women stupid. He just liked them to know when to defer to a man. He wasn't into this women's lib nonsense..."). Umm. Okay, I'll be the first to say it, it's not like I read these novels expecting some grand treatise on sexual equality. But I don't want to read that kind of junk, either. The heroine wasn't much better. I found her to be rather annoying and ridiculous. She is terrified that the guy is going to rape her, but as soon as they're alone, she tries to jump his bones. What? I didn't connect with either of the main characters, and I found myself just skimming the story so I could be finished with the book. Altogether, it was a disappointment.
