About this ebook
The Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia publishes data at the level of statistical regions in various statistical publications. The publication called Slovene Regions in Figures, which has been available for several years, is one of them. With this publication we present statistical regions with the latest available data and indicators. Data and indicators are not presented only in traditional way - in tables - but also on charts and thematic maps.
By browsing the publication you will be able to learn more about our statistical regions. You will find out how and in what extend statistical regions are different and what are their similarities. However, such data are also important support for regional development. They are a good basis for planning regional policies, for decision-making at the regional level and measuring their effects.
The publication is divided into two parts. In the first part statistical regions are presented by selected statistical fields. This overview enables a direct comparison between them. In the second part called Mirror of the Region regions are presented individually. The accompanying text provides a brief description of the most important characteristics of each of the 12 statistical regions.

FOREWORD
This year the publication Slovene Regions in Figures – which brings an interesting walk throughout the Slovene statistical regions – was published for the ninth time. With the data, thematic maps, charts and short comments we present this spatial level as completely, clearly and understandably as possible. This year’s edition is for the first time enriched with the data on external trade.
Statistical data and indicators shown in this publication are a part of a full range of regional data and indicators with which this year we enriched the SI-STAT Data Portal. For different fields of statistics we published numerous statistical indicators at regional and local levels. You can find new regional statistical indicators on education, the level of living, labour market, crime, construction, transport, research and development, science and technology, and the environment. At the same time we also enriched interactive tools on the Geostatistics Portal where we offer a new interactive application for cartographic data presentation called STAGE (STAtistics and GEography). STAGE enables the display of selected statistical data and indicators by different spatial units in combination with cartographical tools from the Google Maps. With great spatial accuracy it is possible to show statistics closer to our users, practically up to your neighbourhood.
This year the Statistical Office celebrates its 70th anniversary. From the establishment in 1944 until today many changes have happened, not only in the process and methods; development of information technology and more experience and knowledge obtained each year enable us to produce interesting and useful products.
This time you are invited to enrich your knowledge with our latest publication Slovene Regions in Figures.
