About this ebook
Mitchell Parker is a character from my novel Nothing Ventured. His role was just a cameo appearance; Molly sees him in the hotel dining room and flees in the hope that he won't see her there and report to her father, Patrick Malone. This short story gives Mitchell some depth, with a story of his own, and indirectly a larger role in Molly's relationship with Paul.
Originally released in 2013, Mitchell Parker's Anniversary Gift has received excellent reviews on Library Thing and Goodreads. I am pleased to make it available via additional retailers in 2014.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I'm afraid I didn't like this book. There's not enough conversation and interaction between people for me. I received it as a free copy to review. However, I read Nothing Ventured by the same author which I really enjoyed
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Mitchell Parker's Anniversary Gift, by Jane Oldaker, opens with Mitchell Parker seated in a restaurant about to celebrate his fortieth wedding anniversary. He has brought with him a lovely gift. Across the room he suddenly sees the daughter of a friend with her male companion and his evening begins to change. After observing the couple and thinking about the wonderful memories of his marriage, Mr. Parker decides to give a different gift- a very special gift. This is a beautifully written short story with an unexpected ending. I received this book free through LibraryThing and I give this review of my own free will.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5*I received a free copy of this short story from the author in exchange for an honest review. This short story gave more depth to the character of Mitchell Parker from Nothing Ventured. Can be read as a standalone short story or as a companion to Nothing Ventured. It's Mitchell's 40th wedding anniversary. He sees Molly and Paul together, and reminisces about the past while focusing on the present and planning for the future.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is a short story that give a closer and more personal look into the life of one of the minor characters in Ms. Oldaker's book "Nothing Ventured" on the eve of his 40th wedding anniversary and how he relates to the other characters in the book. It is extremely well written and the Mitchell just popped off the page for me. I believe it should be added into the book, not because the book is lacking but because it is just that good.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This short story adds to the depth of the story "Nothing Ventured".It give a short background of one of the characters mentioned in the first book and gives you more insight into this particular character. I would have prefered it to be longer, but it was a very interesting addition anyway. Thanks Jane Oldaker for the great stories.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Title: Mitchell Parker's Anniversary GiftAuthor: Jane OldakerPublisher: Smashwords EditionReviewed By: Arlena DeanRating: 5Review:"Mitchell Parker's Anniversary" by Jane Oldaker was another short read by this author. To truly understand this read I would definitely say you should read 'Northing Ventured' to get a little more about this story. As the story starts it is of a Mr. Parker where we find him waiting at a fancy restaurant for his wife's 40th anniversary. Mr. Parker has purchased a lovely piece of jewelry that he knew his wife would love having. As you read thorough this story we will see characters such as Molly Malone and her boyfriend Paul from 'Nothing Ventured.' The story will flash back and forth to day when Parker's wife Eileen were courting and as we listen to Parker's private thoughts of how much he still loves his wife which was a 'everlasting love.' Now this story gets a little more interesting toward the end with a twist that this author as presented to the reader. Now, I don't want to tell any more but want you to pick up this short read to see for yourself how this author brings it all out to the reader. This was very cleverly done by this author. Would I recommend this novel? Yes, it is a good interesting read.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I received this from the author to read and review. This is a short story with a beautiful message. Mitchell Parker is enjoying his 40th anniversary at a restaurant, just like the other 39 he joyed at the same restaurant. While there, he sees the daughter of a friend with a male companion. While watching the couple, Mitchell reminisces on the life he has lived with his own spouse, remembering how his wife and he met, how they enjoyed their family and life. The story helps his realize just what a wonderful gift he has on his 40th anniversary. Therein lies a lesson for the reader, who, like Mitchell, may be at his 40th (or any other) anniversary. The author has conveyed a deep level of commitment through lasting love in a few short pages.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I was given this short story in exchange for an honest review. This was an excellent short story. The characters are well developed in this short story and you find yourself laughing at the attics of the secondary characters with the main character. We are taken back forty years and relive feelings associated with the 40th anniversary of the characters wedding. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to more from the author.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I'm not ashamed to admit that I was in tears when I finished this short story. It added a new dimension to the wonderful book Nothing Ventured. It's a perfect showcase of Oldaker's talents as a writer. The scene is brief but it really gives a good taste of what the accompanying novel is all about. **I was gifted this book for free in exchange for an honest review. My thanks to the author and/or publisher.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A poignant little story featuring Mitchell Parker enjoying a planned 40th anniversary dinner at a hotel, with a carefully chosen present in his pocket. He spots someone he knows in the restaurant and realises that he can get them out of a predicament by making a very generous gesture, which he does. There is a very moving twist to the story which is revealed near the end. A very enjoyable ad.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Mitchell Parker's Anniversary Gift by Jane OldakerWhat attracted me first to this book was the subject matter. We am close to our 40th wedding anniversary also and I thought it'd be cool to see how others celebrate.Felt such a connection to this as we also did not travel for our honeymoon til 9 months later in the fall. Mitchell has the whole evening planned out, their yearly ritual.Love the detailed descriptions of the travel involved. He finds the gift so much earlier than the actual anniversary date. Like how it ends where his usual night is given up to another.Other excerpts from other writings are included at the end.I received this book from Library Thing via the author in exchange for my honest review
