Oil companies are making plans with accountants. The desert is vast. Locals who have lived in Nevada their entire lives had no clue the oil companies came here. Not unlike Area 51, there are hidden secrets throughout the Nevada wasteland. Cities like Las Vegas hold deep secrets. There is a network of underground worlds. In the Dune novel, Frank Herbert writes, “Absolute power does not corrupt absolutely, absolute power attracts the corruptible.” This is not to say that oil industry leaders are corrupt, but with common sense we realize that open environments open the door to leaders that want to earn power at any cost. Psychologist like Freud saw the homicidal impulse that arrives to the mind with mania stirs the mind during bad economic times.

      He who controls the spice controls the universe. Frank Herbert writes in his novel Dune.

      Political groups this summer began taking shape to protect water as a resource against fracking. My experiences in the Middle East taught me that the vast major don’t care about oil. When governments use the oil in a corrupt manner the population is wise to their greedy activities. Thus the populations turn their attention to survival. To survive in the dry desert you must have water. Nevada locals began to form groups to save their water from fracking. Both the themes in these dry climates around Las Vegas as well as the Middle East remind me of the Dune’s war over spice and oil, especially since spice is used for transportation. Fracking wealth would set a dynamic economic change on the entire economy of Las Vegas, especially when it comes down to the economy. Transportation, train systems to California refineries, roads from Mexico to Canada that pass through Las Vegas, as well as the trucking industry. Construction engineers building high rise casinos would turn their attention to drilling for petroleum. University classes would begin to specialize students in oil, mining, and geology. Right now the nearby School of Mines in Colorado is about 12 hours east towards Boulder. What if the University of Nevada Las Vegas taught these classes? Many of the investors for the casinos come from oil rich nations. Dubai investors used their petroleum based money to build City Center in the center of the famous Strip.

      Truth suffers from too much analysis. Frank Herbert writes in his novel Dune.

      Petroleum production takes large amounts of water. Drilling with water. Drilling for petroleum. The need for water and petroleum remind me of the demand for water and spice in the novels known as Dune. Am I taking the importance too seriously? In Las Vegas, you have to take water seriously. That is my point. Frank Herbert expresses as much in his science fiction, but few people outside of the desert can gather the lifesaving properties of Herbert’s wisdom until they gather in the desert. Lack of water adds to violence. Extreme heat adds to violence. Pedestrians walk past the dead thinking they are asleep beside the sidewalk. The dead were asleep. They laid down in the shade. The sun moved from one corner of the city to the next. The safety of the shade is unpredictable. The Las Vegas heat came with the glow of the sun on the unsuspecting sleeper on the sidewalk and created a coma like state while broiling the soft tissue of his brain that enhanced the coma until life leaked from his body. The lack of water makes parents crazy. Parents take their children out in the sun for hours when weather reports warn of exposure to the sun after ten minutes. All cancers in the nation are down, but skin cancer. Skin cancer is on the rise because of sun exposure. Casinos have pool managers. Pool managers pay female models to sit out in the sun all day to attract customers. Girls visiting the casino see the models and want to replicate them by the swimming pool. Males visiting the casino see the models and
