    Chapter 1

I looked at my cell phone when it buzzed. My next appointment should be here in about fifteen minutes. Picking up what was left of my water in my water bottle and the plate from my sandwich, I headed for the kitchen.

There were several benefits of running my business out of my former childhood home. Saving money on meals and fuel, and you just couldn’t beat the commute time.

After placing the plate in the sink and pouring out the small amount of water in the water bottle. I dropped the bottle in the recycle bin and walked back into my office/formal dining room to clear off the remnants of crumbs that might be on my desk from the sandwich. After tidying up my desk for my two o’clock appointment, I did a double check in the mirror to make sure everything was in place.

The Bride was a Ms. Emma Reese. Ms. Reese's wedding should be an interesting affair because she insisted she wanted it on New Year's Eve. Ms. Reese's Groom was Marc Preston, the Eldest of the Preston brothers.

I sat at my desk, where my thoughts wandered back to my high school days. Marc was five years older than I was, so I didn’t talk to him too much. However, I remembered attending school with both Grant and Will Preston and their cousin Jared Scott.

Thinking back on my high school days, especially my senior year with Will Preston, always broke my heart. Will and I dated most of that year, up until the middle of July 2001. Oh my, had it really been ten years. I'd seen Will around town, over the last ten years, but managed to avoid his attention. He was such a sweet guy, with the greatest sense of humor. I fell in love with him the first time he smiled at me.

Will had a dream of going off to college, to make something of his life. I couldn't hold him back, and that would have been what I would have done, if I would have told him the truth. In the end, he would be giving up his dreams for his future, and he would've resent me for all of it. It wouldn’t have ended well; I knew that. And now, well there was definitely no way he would understand now, too much time had passed. I just need to avoid him as much as possible, until after the wedding. Then everything would go back to normal or as close to normal as this situation could ever get. I didn't want to think about him right now, not with his future sister in law showing up any minute. I have responsibilities to take care and a business to run now.

Just then the doorbell chimed, Here Comes the Bride, I know cliché, but the clients love it. I walked to the door, checking my reflection in the mirror that hung on the wall in the foyer one last time and then opened the door. Emma Reese was a full figured blonde about five foot eight with beautiful blue eyes. She had a warm, welcoming smile that would make anyone who looked at her, have a better day.

Hello, Ms. Reese? I’m Melody Everson.

I reached out my right hand and shook hers.

Please come in and make yourself comfortable

Hello, Ms. Everson, its nice meeting you. Thank you so much for making an appointment for me on such short notice

She followed me to my office and sat in one of the two formal chairs in front of my desk. I took the seat behind my desk and sat down to get to work on planning her wedding.

So Ms. Reese, you wanted to see if we can pull a wedding together in only eight weeks, is that correct?

Yes I’m sorry it's such short notice, but New Year's Eve is what we have our heart set on.

Do you have a specific venue in mind or are you flexible in that area?

Well, I wanted it at Marc's house, but he’s worried that I will over do. So he would like to try and find a venue that we can have both the ceremony and reception at.

Well then, I guess we should get started. My bride’s wedding check sheet is always a real big help to me. It allows me to getting to know my client’s tastes and their overall needs. If you could just go through the list and mark what you have already decided on and then, we’ll see what we need from there. It will also help you to determine which of my services you’ll need.

    That sounds perfect, Ms. Everson.

What time do you prefer I make our appointments to visit the bakery, florists and venues, etc…?

I’m real flexible in that area and if we find a venue I love, maybe we can schedule a second viewing on Saturday, so Marc can check it out, as well?

    Do you work Ms. Reese?

Please, call me Emma. I was in a bad car accident almost two weeks ago, and I’m still kind of sore from my cracked ribs. Marc won't let me go back to work until I'm one hundred percent. He's worried that it will hurt the baby if I do. He is such a worrier.

I didn't know. Congratulations Emma and please call me Melody. I'll try to get most everything scheduled for next week. Then we can take care of invitations by next Friday. How does that sound?

That sounds great, thank you so much Melody.

Just as I started to pull my contract and the other needed papers out of my desk drawer, the doorbell chimed.

Excuse me, I’ll be right back. I stood up and went to the door and opened it. As soon as I did, my mouth dropped open.

Will, what are you doing here?

He looked at me for a moment and recognition hit.

"Melody? Oh my gosh! I can't believe it’s you. I knew this was your family’s old home when I saw the address on the slip of paper, but didn’t realize you were a wedding planner. How are you? Oh...why am I here? I’m here
