My name is 陈(Chén)立(Lì)文(Wén); My English Name is David Chen. I was originally born in a mountainous and poor rural village in 武(Wǔ)威(Wēi) of 甘(gān)肃(sù) province in western China. My birth coincided with the starting of the Cultural Revolution. I still have the memories of the slogans such as “千(qiān)万(wàn)不(bú)要(yào)忘(wàng)记(jì)阶(jiē)级(jí)斗(dòu)争(zhēng)“- Never forget class struggle” hanging everywhere on the public walls; I also have memories of when there was not enough food and I was hungry; when my grandfather was beaten and tortured to death and grandmother was criticized, denounced and insulted at public meetings because she was categorized as the “landlord class”. Every time I had to write a student application file I was required to write down my family class, and when I did so I felt ashamed to write “landlord class”.I clearly remember the end of the Cultural Revolution as well as 邓(Dèng)小(Xiǎo)平(Píng)’s initiating policy of reform and opening to the outside world. Throughout my primary school through college, I was able to witness the pros and cons of Chinese reform through the restoration of college entrance for example as a metaphor of China’s opening to the outside world. After university in 西(Xī)安(An), I worked for a provincial government office and a state-owned large company in 甘(Gān)肃(Sù) province for 8 years; I then moved to Shanghai where I witnessed the 15 fold increase housing, the booming infrastructure and architecture, and also the huge gap between the rich and the poor. In Shanghai I worked for joint venture firms, foreign firms and private enterprises and also had managed a Mandarin language school since 2004 when I also started to work as a corporate trainer thereabouts. In the last 9 years I have been teaching business individuals and companies about Chinese business culture and cross-cultural business skills, and mostly my clients are the business managers and executives from Fortune 500 companies and international organizations. Now I work as a Cross-cultural Trainer, soft-skills trainer, Theoy of Constraint Management Consultant .And also I really like to convey positive energy by publishing books
