    Epigraph

God’s promises are like the stars; the darker the night the brighter they shine.

    David Nicholas

    Introduction

The great and glorious promises of God — they are our security in a world of uncertainty and turmoil. They are life vests, intended to protect us as we navigate stormy seas. They are God’s gifts given corporately to all of his children — but personally to each one of us.

We’ve compiled this book, Daily Promises for Women of Color, so that you can more easily take hold of God’s promises for your life. We pray that as you read, you will begin to understand how vast his promises really are, covering virtually every area of daily life. Then, it’s our hope that you will appropriate them as God intended, whether your skies are sunny or gray, in good times and bad. God’s promises are sufficient to cover any need you might have.

So, read them, believe them, rely on them, and treasure them. Most of all, thank God for them. Though freely given, they have been bought with a great price — the holy, righteous blood of God’s precious son, Jesus.

    Week 1: Monday

Oh, how I love your law!

I meditate on it all day long.

Your commands are always with me

and make me wiser than my enemies.

    Psalm 119:97–98

Jesus answered, It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’

    Matthew 4:4

Your word is a lamp for my feet,

    a light on my path.

    Psalm 119:105

But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.

    Luke 8:15

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

    Mark 13:31

    Week 1: Tuesday

If you pay attention to these laws and are careful to follow them, then the LORD your God will keep his covenant of love with you, as he swore to your ancestors.

    Deuteronomy 7:12

The law of the LORD is perfect,

    refreshing the soul.

The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy,

    making wise the simple.

    Psalm 19:7

Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,

    1 Peter 2:2

    When your words came, I ate them;

they were my joy and my heart’s delight,

    for I bear your name,

    LORD God Almighty.

    Jeremiah 15:16

Great peace have those who love your law,

and nothing can make them stumble.

    Psalm 119:165

    Week 1: Wednesday

He replied, Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.

    Luke 11:28

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

    2 Timothy 3:16–17

I remember, LORD, your ancient laws,

and I find comfort in them.

    Psalm 119:52

For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.

    Romans 15:4

Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

    Joshua 1:8

    Week 1: Thursday

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

    Hebrews 4:12

We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.

    2 Peter 1:19

Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown."

    Mark 4:20

For, All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord endures forever. And this is the word that was preached to you.

    1 Peter 1:24–25

    Week 1: Friday

    I meditate on your precepts

    and consider your ways.

    I delight in your decrees;

I will not neglect your word.

    Psalm 119:15–16

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

    2 Timothy 2:15

But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.

    James 1:25

I have hidden your word in my heart

that I might not sin against you.

    Psalm 119:11

Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.

    Revelation 1:3

    Week 1: Weekend

    Your statutes are wonderful;

    therefore I obey them.

    The unfolding of your words gives light;

it gives understanding to the simple.

    Psalm 119:129–130

Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.

    Colossians 3:16

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.

    John 1:1–2

    Your hands made me and formed me;

give me understanding to learn your commands.

May those who fear you rejoice when they see me,

for I have put my hope in your word.

    Psalm 119:73–74

    Week 2: Monday

    Blessed is the one

who does not walk in step with the wicked

or stand in the way that sinners take

or sit in the company of mockers,

but whose delight is in the law of the LORD,

and who meditates on his law day and night.

That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,

which yields its fruit in season

and whose leaf does not wither—

    whatever they do prospers.

    Psalm 1:1–3

For seven days celebrate the festival to the LORD your God at the place the LORD will choose. For the LORD your God will bless you in all your harvest and in all the work of your hands, and your joy will be complete.

    Deuteronomy 16:15

This is what the LORD says: Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the LORD. But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him.

    Jeremiah 17:5, 7

    Week 2: Tuesday

All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the LORD your God:

You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country.

The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks.

Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed.

You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out.

The LORD will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The LORD your God will bless you in the land he is giving you.

The LORD will grant you abundant prosperity—in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your ground—in the land he swore to your ancestors to give you.

The LORD will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none.

The LORD will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the LORD your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom.

    Deuteronomy 28:2–6, 8, 11–13

    Week 2: Wednesday

    You make known to me the path of life;

    you
