About this audiobook

Early one morning, in the grounds of Chatsworth, a body is discovered by one of the estate groundsmen. DI Marsden and DS Granger battle through snow-covered roads to begin their investigation.

Meanwhile, at the Connection Investigation Agency, Doris, Kat and Mouse are busy juggling their caseloads, while trying to show their new trainee receptionist the ropes.

When the police learn that the body belongs to Nicola Armstrong, a resident of the nearby village of Baslow, it soon transpires that Nicola was the mother of a child who disappeared ten years prior to her murder.

Soon, the Connection investigators are brought in to help but when a second body is found at Chatsworth, the case takes a disturbing turn.

Can the police and the female sleuths get to the truth before more life is lost? Or is the fate of those involved already sealed?

This was a great series. But didn’t they leave the plot line about Kylie Roy very unfinished?

I keep enjoying this series a lot!
In this one, the author deals with a theme that it's not much talked about and I found the whole story a little darker than the others, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Although it lessened Mouse's participation in this book, I really liked the addition of Luke and his immediate connection with Doris and their easy relationship.
These books can be read as standalones, but I recommend doing it in order so you follow how the relationship between these women starts and develops.
This was supposed to be the last book, but fortunately there is another one. On to #5!

Maybe it’s the cultural differences that I am reacting to but this story takes place in present day yet seems very old fashioned. Dialogue between characters seems overly polite and unnatural. I enjoyed the story but thought it was more like miss Marple from Agatha Christie.

I love all the Kat and Mouse books. The action is great without being overwhelming. The character development has been wonderful as well, while still sticking to the main plot. I love the coziness of books. This was book four of five and I have enjoyed each on thoroughly. I am starting book five as soon as I finish this review.

Plot line to implicate son to murder his own Mum shows little belief in the power of the belief in maternal instinct being unpredictable; father manipulated son to his detriment; and seems to be without accountability for unfaithfulness in marriage; he said wife through him down stairs; violent jealous sister said Mum was violent; was Nicola framed instead?
Why would a child search out his Mum only for murder ?

I am constantly amazed at how the writer of these books can take you into the details of daily life and keep you engrossed. No car chases. No massive fights on screen. A lot of drinking coffee, tea and scones. And somehow… it’s mesmerizing.

I really enjoyed this book. Not filled with a bunch of fowl language nor gore . Kind of a murder she wrote or midsummer’s murder mysteries. It is an laid back cozy type of book.

It was great however the protocol in giving out someone’s private address seems to have changed in this book. Also, a calico cat isn’t just gray, it has multiple patches of different colored fur and only a female can be a calico! This major inaccuracy makes me question other possible miss information. Hello editors and proofreaders.

All of the twists and turns are great! I’ve been reading this genre for many years and I can easily compare Miss Waller’s books to the writings of the great Agatha Christie! The narrator, Claire Storey, is perfect choice in bringing these stories to life.

I enjoyed the English village cozy-crime vibe. The narrator is perfect representing these characters imo! I did laugh at the use of the phrase CLEVER CLOGS! (Stop trying to make CLEVER CLOGS happen!) ?

I do hate to come to the end of your series. They are sooooo riveting. I sure will be reading (listening really) to more you have done. I work by myself and love filling up my day with your interesting stories. Keep up the good work.
