Wit, vulnerability,. and charm…

Babalola’s (“Love in Color”) romance debut is full of wit and vulnerability. Kiki Banjo, a British-Nigerian student at Whitewell College, is more interested in doling out love advice on her radio show “Brown Sugar” than experiencing love herself. She’s quick to disparage Malakai Korede, a smug recent transfer, to her listeners. But when the two form a fake relationship that’s mutually beneficial, the resulting attention (and Malakai’s charm) force Kiki to reevaluate her guarded heart.

Introducing internationally bestselling author Bolu Babalola’s dazzling debut novel, full of passion, humor, and heart, that centers on a young Black British woman who has no interest in love and unexpectedly finds herself caught up in a fake relationship with the man she warned her girls about

Sweet like plantain, hot like pepper. They taste the best when together...

Sharp-tongued (and secretly soft-hearted) Kiki Banjo has just made a huge mistake. As an expert in relationship-evasion and the host of the popular student radio show Brown Sugar, she’s made it her mission to make sure the women of the African-Caribbean Society at Whitewell University do not fall into the mess of “situationships”, players, and heartbreak. But when the Queen of the Unbothered kisses Malakai Korede, the guy she just publicly denounced as “The Wastemen of Whitewell,” in front of every Blackwellian on campus, she finds her show on the brink.

They’re soon embroiled in a fake relationship to try and salvage their reputations and save their futures. Kiki has never surrendered her heart before, and a player like Malakai won’t be the one to change that, no matter how charming he is or how electric their connection feels. But surprisingly entertaining study sessions and intimate, late-night talks at old-fashioned diners force Kiki to look beyond her own presumptions. Is she ready to open herself up to something deeper?

A gloriously funny and sparkling debut novel, Honey and Spice is full of delicious tension and romantic intrigue that will make you weak at the knees.

"A smart, sexy summer read, which hits your brain and your romance buttons in one shot." — Los Angeles Times

"A vibrant debut novel . . . Babalola is incisively funny, capturing the kick and sweetness of her title with her words." — Entertainment Weekly

“Divine summer reading. Hilarious, hot, and heartfelt. ” — Meg Cabot, #1 New York Times bestselling author

I so loved the narrator. I didn’t physically read the book like I normally would. She was so good - there’s no way that just reading the book could make it seem so alive and real time life.
I didn’t necessarily agree with KiKi’s point of views and her choice of adjectives/nouns. Her choices sometimes made me cringe - like when you know the outcome that will happen from someone choices. It produces an anxiety inside the reader that is not necessarily a feeling that’s wanted. I did enjoy watching the characters grow and learning new revelations/insights to each individual one. Also appreciated all the different view points. The way justice was dealt was definitely a plus

"Your energy grabbed me by the throat. You're electric. Like lightning. Bright with it. Bold with it."

I have been thoroughly entertained. I'm still kicking my feet in the air like a love sick fool. Once I am done with all that giddiness, I'm getting candles just so I can try manifesting Malakai Korede into existence! He is perfection. ??

Absolutely divine. Completed in two days and couldn’t stop thinking about it when I wasn’t listening. You fall in love with the main character and her friends, and if you’re like me, you’ll cry at the amount of genuine love you’ll feel at the end. Outstanding work. I’ll remember this for a very long time. HIGHLY recommend.

    Wonderful must read!!

The dialogue, the banter, the wit - wonderful!! Scotch and Kai are a beautiful match of sexy, warm laughter. Bolu is a wizard with a pen (computer?) and the narrator for the audiobook killed it. I finished listening in less than 3 days.

This. I’m. In. Love. Books are life y’all! Malakai and Kiki are the perfect couple to read about. Chemistry on point. Banter just enough. They challenge each other only to improve each other. This junk is why I will read 15 so so books… bec if you keep reading you find a dang gem ?! This… is a Diamond!

Could get through this book. Made it through four chapters. Ugh!

Not a fan at all. It was a major chore to wade through. The slang was very hard to understand, I couldn't get invested in the characters or the plot. It felt very high school drama instead of new adult/college. I love Reese's Book Club picks but this one didn't work for me. I would have DNFd it if I hadn't been reading it for book club
