Great story well told. The ending was surprising but not so far fetched as to be ridiculous. It all comes together perfectly.

Too Predictable. The beginning was very good (triggering for some though I'm sure).

Review may contain minor spoilers about some contents but doesn't reveal the story itself.

Audiobook TW/CN: very graphic description of child sexual abuse, emotional, psychological and physical child abuse, self-harm, suicide including detailed descriptions of suicide methods,
    mentioning of eating disorders

tldr; Great book, story, storytelling, characters without drama, but unnecessary detailed descriptions of emotional devastating contents.

I really liked this audiobook, but there were some major issues.
The storytelling was awesome, the story and the main characters were great, but many of the side characters seemed mostly like they're were solely written as a stereotypical collection of diagnoses.
In my opinion it captures the community feeling inside a psychiatric ward exceptionally well. Characters are never just good or bad, even when they do bad things. The only exception are the abusers.
A large part of the book had a realistic positive atmosphere of healing without being cheesy, leaving out relapses or adding unnecessary drama, which I really liked.
I loved how two of the main people are just nice human beings without adding unnecessary drama.

What I didn't like at all were the very graphic descriptions of triggering. In the past I experienced many of the contents in the book myself and on my journey to I met people with all kind of mental disorders. I'm stable now and consider myself to be not sensitive about triggering contents, but I had to pause this audiobook because it was too much. This extreme details may be necessary for listeners who live completely sheltered from everything bad and can't imagine how devastating the traumatic experiences of the twins were, but that should be a small minority.
I really don't think a good book needs this quantity of detailed description of what men do with very little girls. For me it feels like voyeuristically watching the very real trauma of people I knew just for an exciting story and it makes me sick.

I'm not a fan of trigger warnings for every mention of self-harm, but as a person who in their past often self-harmed after accidentally stumbling on descriptions like these, I think this book needs at least warnings for people who temporarily want to avoid such contents to be able to heal.

In my opinion the relative mild damages the twins later experienced after the extreme abuse and neglect was unrealistic. It may seem otherwise if you are not into that topic, so should not be much of a bother. Especially as less known effects of severe abuse (food hording, emotional issues, relationships, hygiene...) are described, which are usually ignored.

All in all this book could have easily been one of my favourite books: an exciting yet positive novel with a twist, but the unnecessary triggering details ruined it for me. I will absolutely read the author's other books because she sure knows how to write a good story.

The narrator did a wonderful job. This book gives you a whole new look into mental diseases.

    Very good book.
I was expecting a different ending and I did see part of the twist very early.
This is her second book of hers I've read and I will continue to read more.

It was predictable and sometimes the main character drove me crazy. Not as good as some of her other books. It was a good time though and kept me reading. I love Lucinda Berrys writing style and will continue to make it through her backlist and pick up her new stuff.

I did really enjoy this book. This is my 2nd from this author and it does not disappoint. Although I did see part of it coming and semi saw the end coming but I wasn't too sure I didn't enjoy reading it and I feel that the characters were well written and they had a very deep and amazing story.

This was a very disappointing book from a good author. I found it tedious and repetitive. Too much psychiatry and not enough plot. Too bad as the author has written some great books.

It started off so promising, but devolved into "Girl, Interrupted" 1/4 of the way in, before further spiraling into cliche territory. It's a good way to waste some time at work or at the gym, but the story definitely did not stick with me.

I was rather disappointed with the book as the other books I have listened to by this author were really good-therefore maybe my standard was too high. The main character annoyed me and the twist was subpar. Narrator did an okay job.

Oh wow! This was just wow!
I am speechless, seriously I don't know what to say.
There was so much pain and so much progress. Our brain indeed is a powerful tool!
This is not easy read! Not at all but it's good one!
Even so I didn't really waited for twist as this was story not needed one but there was... That unexpected turn that made me go back and start chapter again just to ensure I understand correctly. Absolutely recommend!
