**This program is read by Nicholas Ralph, star of the PBS Masterpiece series**
"Nicholas Ralph’s readings of Herriot’s stories are as comforting an experience as the show, and even more immersive." —The Houston Chronicle
A tie-in to the PBS Masterpiece series and Christmas special, available on streaming and home video.
The second volume in the multimillion copy bestselling series.
Millions of readers and listeners have delighted in the wonderful storytelling and everyday miracles of James Herriot in the fifty years since his animal stories were first introduced to the world.
All Things Bright and Beautiful is the beloved sequel to Herriot's first collection, All Creatures Great and Small, and picks up as Herriot, now newly married, journeys among the remote hillside farms and valley towns of the Yorkshire Dales, caring for their inhabitants—both two- and four-legged. Throughout, Herriot's deep compassion, humor, and love of life shine as we laugh, cry, and delight in the portraits of his many varied animal patients and their equally varied owners.

James Herriot
James Herriot, a pseudonym for James Alfred Wight, grew up in Glasgow and qualified as a veterinary surgeon at Glasgow Veterinary College. Shortly afterwards he took up a position as an assistant in a North Yorkshire practice where he remained, with the exception of his wartime service in the RAF, until his death in 1995. He wrote many books about Yorkshire country life, including some for children, but he is best known for his memoirs, which begin with If Only They Could Talk. The books were televised in the enormously popular series All Creatures Great and Small.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Like All Creatures Great and Small, this was a re-read for me - I first read both books back in the late 70s and loved them. It's one of those books I've always wanted to revisit, and when I saw the opportunity to listen to a new audio version, narrated by the actor who plays Herriot in the new PBS series, I pounced on it. And like All Creatures Great & Small, it was just as delightful the second time around. The narration is wonderful - I'm quite sure I wasn't hearing a Scottish accent in my head when I read it all those years ago, but I certainly enjoyed Nicholas Ralph's accent as he narrated.
My thanks to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for providing a copy for an unbiased review.1 person found this helpful
