Huge fan of N Madison’s hockey series, maybe that brought an unfair expectation to this series. Savanna kind of gets a free pass, but imho was jealous and manipulative and more of selfish bitch than is exposed. Jacobs blind loyalty to Savanna, never questions her motives but grows to hate/love Callie because she was hurt & betrayed. His feelings towards Ethan are understandable, even noble after his birth, but that kind of dedication from jump seems unreasonable. Callie who in many ways was wronged beyond repair. Makes equally questionable decisions, which had it played differently would have harsh consequences too. The storyline that actually forced Callie back to town was completely abandoned and given super washed blink in the epi.
However! You do get a feel for the pure love of 2 young people who get a second chance and despite old hurts and stubbornness can’t deny how deeply they love each other.

Second chance, small town, single dad trope.

All the above are easy signs that I'll most likely enjoy the book. Plus it's Natasha Madison and she always writes a great romance with spice.

I loved Kallie and her southern attitude, she took no bull from anyone even in the early high school days and that hadn't changed by the time she had to come back to town and help her friend Olivia. Jacob has a secret and it's one that he's now wanting to revveal to Kallie since it's what ended them 8 years ago. Except it's something that would break him if Kallie couldn't except it.

There's definitely insta-love between Kallie and Jacob which isn't something I go for but I wasn't surpised when some comments came up from Jacob. It reminded me very much of how Aurora Rose Reynolds writes. I still really enjoyed the story and the southern take.

The scenes seemed to cut short or maybe I wanted more but I would have liked to scenes to dig a bit deeper and spend more time on the moment. I'm really intrigued with Olivia and I will absolutely be reading the next book in the series soon.

Not enough scenes, just talking about feelings. Lame female protagonist.
