Reese’s book club…

Reese Witherspoon picked “The Guest List” as one of her June/July 2020 book club picks, along with “I’m Still Here” by Austin Channing Brown. “A very stormy seaside destination wedding is the back drop for this thrilling June book pick. … Get ready for so many twists and turns as you try to figure out the who, what and when of this mystery. It reminds me of some of my favorite mysteries from Agatha Christie,” Witherspoon wrote in her Instagram announcement post.

A Reese's Book Club Pick

“I loved this book. It gave me the same waves of happiness I get from curling up with a classic Christie...The alternating points of view keep you guessing, and guessing wrong.” (Alex Michaelides, number one New York Times best-selling author of The Silent Patient)

"Evok[es] the great Agatha Christie classics.... Pay close attention to seemingly throwaway details about the characters’ pasts. They are all clues.” (New York Times Book Review)

A wedding celebration turns dark and deadly in this deliciously wicked and atmospheric thriller reminiscent of Agatha Christie from the New York Times best-selling author of The Hunting Party.

The bride – The plus one – The best man – The wedding planner – The bridesmaid – The body

On an island off the coast of Ireland, guests gather to celebrate two people joining their lives together as one. The groom: handsome and charming, a rising television star. The bride: smart and ambitious, a magazine publisher. It’s a wedding for a magazine, or for a celebrity: the designer dress, the remote location, the luxe party favors, the boutique whiskey. The cell phone service may be spotty and the waves may be rough, but every detail has been expertly planned and will be expertly executed.

But perfection is for plans, and people are all too human. As the champagne is popped and the festivities begin, resentments and petty jealousies begin to mingle with the reminiscences and well wishes. The groomsmen begin the drinking game from their school days. The bridesmaid not-so-accidentally ruins her dress. The bride’s oldest (male) friend gives an uncomfortably caring toast.

And then someone turns up dead. Who didn’t wish the happy couple well? And perhaps more important, why?

    I absolutely loved this.
Twists. Slow burn. Love it. Definitely recommend.

I couldn't stop listening! The story was full of twists and turns, and I felt myself getting attached to the characters--no matter how distasteful some were.

3.5 stars. The beginning was somewhat slow paced. I was kind of getting bored and there was so much dialogue that the ending felt rushed. Nonetheless, I liked it.
  • (1/5)
Meritless garbage, tediously drawn out. Waste of time.
Bet that wedding planner and her husband never had another customer EVER. LOL
  • (4/5)
I like the story and how it was told from different perspectives. I was able to predict the end but there was one or two twists that I wasn’t able to see coming.
  • (4/5)
Twist after twist. Did not see that end coming. Just when you think you have it figured out here comes something new.
  • (5/5)
Really great book, twists you don’t see coming. Excellent narration.

Predictable. Horrible shiny people getting their comeuppance. Waste of time

The writing sparkles. Characters are well drawn. Plot is weak.

Excellent book! I took a chance on this book because the cover and title were intriguing. Glad I did. Lucy Foley writes with such depth. I later discovered this book landed on Reese Whitherspoon’s Book Club list. Lucky me! Bravo Lucy.

Great read! I couldn’t put it down. If you have read any of her other work, then you know she can write some good suspense.

The story started off slowly, but I stuck with it and I'm glad I did. Each storyline ended up connecting surprisingly well. It had me on the edge of my seat toward the end.

I enjoyed seeing things from everyone’s point of view (even if I didn’t agree with them). The narrators really brought the history and place alive for me.

Very entertaining and well written. Unpredictable. Enjoyed it a lot.
  • (5/5)
Thought this one had plenty of twists I didn’t see coming. I appreciated how the various threads of the story and narrators all flowed together.
  • (4/5)
Interesting enough, but it's more a slice of life with some light mistery than a proper whodunnit. The ending is a little rushed but the set of unlikable characters felt fresh and entertaining.
  • (5/5)
Great book loved the twists And turns! Would recommend this book

Kept you guessing until the end. Interesting way to get into the head of characters.
  • (5/5)
I was pleasantly surprised by the ending. Lots of twists and turns!
  • (5/5)
A good story overall that got denser and darker as it all unfurled. I find school stories draining, however and there are lots of them in this book. Worth listening to, I would say.
