About this audiobook

They said I was a bad idea. Poor. Violent. Criminal.

They said I'd amount to nothing, and I believed them too. Until I met her.

Layla Barros saved me from my worst, but to do that, she lost the best herself. Now it's my turn to bring her back to life. If only I can figure out how to do it.

I'll do anything to protect the chance we finally have together. I'll follow her to the other side of the word: Brazil. Cuba. You name it. But how can I be her true north when I'm still finding my direction too?

Because sometimes your worst demons are those closest to you. And sometimes getting rid of them isn't a choice at all.

Contains mature themes.

Another great book. I just wish I knew more about Laylas parents. I thought they would get back together. Did Sergio move back to the U.S?

In advance of this review I would like to state that True North is the third novel in a series and I had not read the previous two novels prior to reading True North. It is labeled as a standalone, but I personally just went back and read the other two and I can say the series is more enjoyable as a whole. That said, not reading them first did not hurt my reading or review of this novel, because Nicole French knows how to write series novels that individually carry themselves and are only enriched by their companion novels. Very impressed.

True North continues Layla and Nico's story, a realistic love story that shows how, despite every wall put in their way, these two find a way to be together. The realities they face are tough, they're very similar to the stories we hear from friends every day, but Nicole French weaves hope into each struggle and every trial they face is a lesson that makes them grow. Layla learns how to accept her past, finding a way to face what haunts her, but also finding a way to learn to lean on others and accept love. She's such an open, honest character, so it was sweet to see her both recognize she wasn't accepting as openly as she gave it and recognize that her love is strong enough to even affect the most stubborn of men. Nico as a firefighter is the best, come on, we're all thinking it. Not only is he Layla's knight in shining armor, but he is a public servant with a vigilante attitude. He's kind, sometimes a little arrogant, and more than loving to everyone he meets. He's compassionate and the sort of man anyone dreams of having. As a finishing novel a lot happens in True North, but more specifically a lot of character growth takes place. Layla and Nico not only accept themselves, but accept who and what they are together. You'll be swooning a lot. Plus, we get to see them really be a couple, a strong adult couple, and that's refreshing and more than great for them. It's the perfect last novel.

The title of this novel is so perfect and has a lot of meaning behind it, which I really appreciate in any storyline. It's a very well delivered romance with just the right amount of angst, definitely a series I'd recommend and will personally re-read again.
