About this audiobook

Nora Roberts, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the epic Year One returns with Of Blood and Bone, a new tale of terror and magic in a brand new world.

They look like an everyday family living an ordinary life. But beyond the edges of this peaceful farm, unimaginable forces of light and dark have been unleashed.

Fallon Swift, approaching her thirteenth birthday, barely knows the world that existed before―the city where her parents lived, now in ruins and reclaimed by nature since the Doom sickened and killed billions. Traveling anywhere is a danger, as vicious gangs of Raiders and fanatics called Purity Warriors search for their next victim. Those like Fallon, in possession of gifts, are hunted―and the time is coming when her true nature, her identity as The One, can no longer be hidden.

In a mysterious shelter in the forest, her training is about to begin under the guidance of Mallick, whose skills have been honed over centuries. She will learn the old ways of healing; study and spar; encounter faeries and elves and shifters; and find powers within herself she never imagined. And when the time is right, she will take up the sword, and fight. For until she grows into the woman she was born to be, the world outside will never be whole again.

The narrator is amazing! She is able to make you believe each character is different without sounding so ridiculous! Great story.

Okay I like the first one. But I don't know what happened in this one. It went from a believable end of world story with the world turning into a slightly magic era. Into this book wittch reminded me of a full on preteen magic coming of age story. Soooo unbelievable. Doesn't even make sense in correlation with the first book. It just got really weird. Also I got tired of the weird poem thing going on " blood of heart, I am the daughter of light. Of wind. Of fire. Of water. Forged from light and fire. Under the sun and moon and stars of gods and dogs who eat grass Blah blah blah ." As the book went on these got longer and longer and more and more frequent.
I don't think I'll be able to read the next one.

A little slow, but got better. Didn't realize it was book 2 of 3. Now I've got to read the other 2.

I did not like this book at all. Most of the time, I found Fallon to be very annoying. The attraction between her and Duncan seemed forced and fake. I wasn’t a fan of book one either but, it was definitely better. I was really hoping this story was ending with book two but, since Allegra and Petra are still alive and Duncan is leaving for two years, I’m going to assume there will be a book three. Ugh!

Really enjoyable. Fun mix of magic and family. Characters are really altruistic and more like a teenagers idea of good and evil, but still enjoyable. Will read the next one. Ps-Narrator is AMAZING! I wish there was more humor in it, but all good.

I think this would make a brilliant film. Book 2 just as good as book one, if not better. Really detailed and exciting. Can't wait to read the next.

Not quite as good as the first book but still a page-turner as you follow Fallon Swift's journey in preparing for the war that is coming. She spends a lot of time with a wizard named Mallick, training and learning more about her powers, but already feels the pull of the darkness she will have to conquer. I'm sure there's more action to come in the third book. Can't wait.

Nora Roberts awesome as always! The period of Fallon training was a little slow and I preferred the continuation of the stories in book 1, but that's just me.

The second title in the Chronicles of the One trilogy. Fallon Swift is fast approaching her 13th birthday. She and her family are making the most of their time on the farm together before Mallick comes to take her away for two years of training. And harsh training it is, for she must learn all the physical and mental skills needed to fight the forces of darkness which include her uncle who killed her birth father. Fallon is the hope of all, The One, daughter of the Tuatha Dé Danann. She will build an army and lead the battle ahead. There is much to learn. Meanwhile, the residents of New Hope have continued to build their new society. The children born there have also grown into teenagers who help to protect the town, and take part in scavenging forays and raids to free prisoners. Looking forward to the third in the series.

This is a book that is setting up the events that are to come. Full of training scenes and realisations by Fallon that she is going to have to take up a mantle and when she does that there will be consequences. Complex and interesting this will not work without book 1 and left me wanting book 3.Again it's a story of magic returning, people having to deal with people being people and heroes coming up who are aware of what it will cost. Nora Roberts is quite good at creating good, strong female characters without having to sacrifice the males.

Fallon Swift’s thirteenth birthday brings change to her life as she comes closer to being revealed as The One. Separated from her family, her mentor Mallick teaches her of spells and the old ways of fighting, helping her to find the powers hidden within herself. But will it be enough to keep the vicious Raider gangs and fanatical Purity Warriors from destroying the towns the survivors of the Doom have so painstakingly carved out of the disaster? And what will be required of Fallon as The One?Continuing the story began in “Year One,” both the strong sense of place and the well-developed characters pull readers into the unfolding story of survivors and dangers and magick. The horror of the Doom is past; here the characters grow and events set the stage for what is certain to come. It’s can’t-put-it-down compelling. Don’t miss this one. Highly recommended.

The second book of the Chronicles of the One series is about Fallon Swift growing into her role as The One. She goes for her two-year training by Mallick the Sorceror, meets other magical creatures, and fulfills the quests needed to give her the powers she'll need in the coming war. Meanwhile, the people of New Hope are working as a community, and their people and the friends Lana and Fallon left behind are finding mates and having children. This is such a good fantasy series with some dystopia mixed in, less than in the first book. I learned about a new creature (an alicorn) which I love. I especially found it interesting how they dealt with nuclear missiles. Ms. Roberts provides a fascinating narrative mixing magick and the modern world with intriguing characters and a page-turning narrative. The ending came as a surprise, and now I must wait for the next book in the series. I highly recommend this series.

OF BLOOD AND BONE by Nora RobertsVolume two of The Chronicles of THE ONE is a richly imagined world of magic, war, peace, education, and strategy. The characters introduced in volume one (YEAR ONE) are fleshed out and new characters become real. Roberts is a master of characterization and plotting. This book demonstrates that. The training of THE ONE continues with an increase in magic, friendships and war. Although the middle of the book drags a bit, it is a welcome launch to the heart pounding final chapters. The conclusion of this book ensures readers will wait breathlessly for the third and final installment. Readers who enjoy their magic laced with realism and great characters will appreciate this book. Can be read as a stand alone.5 of 5 stars

I'm enjoying the books, but they are feeling a bit like a lot of other things I've read.
