Descripción

A duke tormented by a painful secret meets the bookish miss who just might save him from himself...

(Newly remastered audio version added March 2019.)

A USA Today Bestseller, Publishers Weekly Starred Review recipient, and 2018 RITA® Finalist, The Demon Duke is the first in Margaret Locke's new Put Up Your Dukes Regency historical romance series.

"Locke has outdone herself with this sensitive, splendid Regency and her portrayal of its disabled hero...(T)he real value to this romance is Locke's depiction of the lovers overcoming the social obstacles that others create out of fear and suspicion of Damon's disability. This tale of hope and courage will appeal to Regency readers across the board. - Publisher's Weekly Starred Review

“Regency romance lovers will savor this story, interspersed with perfect amounts of romance, intrigue and redemption.” - InD’Tale Magazine

___________

Banished to Yorkshire as a boy for faults his father failed to beat out of him, Damon Blackbourne has no use for English society and had vowed never to return to his family's estate at Thorne Hill, much less London. However, when his father and brother die in a freak carriage accident, it falls on Damon to take up the mantle of the Malford dukedom, and to introduce his sisters to London Society-his worst nightmare come to life.

He never planned on Lady Grace Mattersley. The beautiful debutante stirs him body and soul with her deep chocolate eyes and hesitant smiles. Until she stumbles across his dark secret.

Bookish Grace much prefers solitude and reading to social just-about-anything. Her family may be pressuring her to take on the London Season to find herself a husband, but she has other ideas. Such as writing a novel of her own. But she has no idea how to deal with the Duke of Malford.

Will she betray him to the world? Or will she be his saving Grace?

Fantastic start to a promising new series! Author Margaret Locke weaves her wordy magic once again giving us a grand (and at times lesser grand considering the circumstances) romp through the times of Dukes, Duchesses, and other assorted titles, in a tale that promises much and delivers more still. I loved the seemingly imperfect Duke, scandalized by a society that simply did not understand... and the fact that he was inspired by real world heroes, touched my heart. What Damon did for that child, the love he had for Grace, his desire to protect those he holds dear... beyond words. I loved the bookish "mouse" with her temper, tongue, and talent for blending in, if only just, even as she harbored an inner lioness. Let's just say Grace may be her name but that's because she-who-speaks-her-mind-kicks- butt-and-asks-questions-later was taken. Seriously though, she's a proper young lady that doesn't believe proper need be defined as stringently as society dictates. The love affair that erupts, the scandals that set the ton ablaze, the downright sniveling conniving asinine behavior of those that ought know better and the comeuppance they receive, along with the surprising presence of old familiar faces, made this take as enchanting as the clothes were decadent.

Wonderful read for Historical Fiction, Romance and Women's Fiction fans alike... with just the right touch of real world magic to keep things interesting. Oh and the book love, oh the book love! Adored it!

The story was ok. The reader’s voice didn’t quite work for me. There was a kind of disconnect and some parts echoed. I haven’t had that with any other audio book I’ve read. Good story but could have been more engaging
  • (3/5)
The story was really good but I agree that the audio was annoying with a weird echoing used when dialogue was in play. Personally I believe the effect would work better with thoughts and internal monologues.

The recording took away from the story. Sound was loud then very low directly after. The echoing was also annoying as some of the other reviews stated.

Commendable, because it deals with understanding and empathy with the neurological difficulty called Tourettes Syndrome
