Bizarre, wild ride…

Stephen King’s wild ride of a thriller has been adapted into a series on HBO starring Jason Bateman, Cynthia Erivo, and Ben Mendelsohn. The unsettling story begins when a seemingly straightforward investigation into a monstrous crime reveals supernatural forces at work.

Descripción

An unspeakable crime. A confounding investigation. At a time when the King brand has never been stronger, he has delivered one of his most unsettling and compulsively readable stories.

An eleven-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

As the investigation expands and horrifying answers begin to emerge, King's propulsive story kicks into high gear, generating strong tension and almost unbearable suspense. Terry Maitland seems like a nice guy, but is he wearing another face? When the answer comes, it will shock you as only Stephen King can.

This is probably one of my favorite of Kings book, it's based off of real folklore and its suspenseful in all the right ways!

I’m so happy with this one, there’s a surprise towards the middle for fans

Fantastic story! Will Patton does an amazing job with the characters and the story has you guessing, per usual, throughout.

amazing book that kept me engrossed. the narrator was perfect.

It's been so many years since I've read a Steven King, that I had forgotten how much I enjoy his story-telling. This one gets an A... Entertaining dialogue, King's not big on character development, so it's a bit more challenging to "visualize" each new character as they're introduced. The audible is an 18° listen, the narrator -- a man -- was pretty funny doing the female parts. If you like "Classic King" e.g. "Cujo," "Carrie" & "Pet Semetary," you'll enjoy this book as well!

Really good book. I liked the different characters and the reader did a great job.

Good book. Some happy and sad moments. The theme of the book seems to be around the power of belief; how it can be used against us as well as used to our benefit. I think this was illustrated well in this book.

Pretty good. An unofficial sequel to the Mr. Mercedes series but better then any one of those 3 novels. Kind of a thin story for such a long novel but saying King has trouble with self editing is super redundant. If your already one of King’s “constant readers” I’m sure you’ll enjoy this book. If on the the other hand your not a King fan this probably won’t win you over. The narrator for this audiobook is King’s go to narrator for all his recent audiobook. He does a really good job and has a very distinctive style that takes a little to get used to but once you do it works really well.

  • (3/5)
It had good characters, and good ending, but a little bit of a slow read.
  • (4/5)
The first half is so good but the ending boss fight seems a little bit too abrupt. The narrator did a really good job, his Lovie voice was so hilarious lmao
  • (4/5)
Great delivery, good mistery, great characters. Nemesis was just okay.
  • (5/5)
My first Stephan King book (I know, I may have been living under a rock on this one) and I LOVED it! Awesome narrator. Can’t wait to explore King’s other books!!
  • (4/5)
Stick with it, and it's great. It started a bit dry for me, but once I was able to visualize and understand everyone's character, it was enjoyable.

Good tie in with character from Mr. Mercedes series. The origin story wasn't the best, but it was still fun to read (listen to).
