About this audiobook

Set in the near future, this action-packed YA novel—already optioned by Sony Pictures—will take readers out of this world and on a quest to become one of six teens sent on a mission to Jupiter’s moon. This is the next must-read for fans of Illuminae and The Martian.

When Leo and Naomi are drafted, along with twenty-two of the world’s brightest teenagers, into the International Space Training Camp, their lives are forever changed. Overnight, they become global celebrities in contention for one of the six slots to travel to Europa—Jupiter’s moon—and establish a new colony, leaving their planet forever. With Earth irreparably damaged, the future of the human race rests on their shoulders.

For Leo, an Italian championship swimmer, this kind of purpose is a reason to go on after losing his family. But Naomi, an Iranian-American science genius, is suspicious of the ISTC and the fact that a similar mission failed under mysterious circumstances, killing the astronauts onboard. She fears something equally sinister awaiting the Final Six beneath Europa’s surface.

In this cutthroat atmosphere, surrounded by strangers from around the world, Naomi finds an unexpected friend in Leo. As the training tests their limits, Naomi and Leo’s relationship deepens with each life-altering experience they encounter.

But it’s only when the finalists become fewer and their destinies grow nearer that the two can fathom the full weight of everything at stake: the world, the stars, and their lives.

Excellent book! Okay maybe a lil insta-love but not overly annoying. The story's so awesome! Great concept, world building is stellar, well written & beautifully narrated! IMO it was very Believable, had we different unknown planets to go to, I could totally see a government being so shady! I can't wait to see what's next for Leo! I was thinking there was no way it could end so brutally, there had to be SOME WAY! So the lil twist at the end was such a relief! Okay maybe a tad bit too perfectly timed but very satisfying for those of us girls who fell in love with Leo! Beckett was the kind of guy you love to hate but I think there might be a little hope for him if Alexandria lets the story round out happily for all of us! I don't mind well rounded happy endings, I'm not a fan of heartbreak in RL, so why would I want to suffer heartache in my beloved novels?! Anyway I haven't been this excited by a story since The Insignia Series, Illuminae Files & Th Aurora Cycle Saga! Give it a chance people!

Honestly amazing. I ripped through this in about three days and I was hooked the whole time. I'm a college student & a commuter so having a story like this to get lost in was awesome. Waiting for the sequel already.

The book was so good. The reading of Naomi was kinda scratchy and sometimes read a little too fast, but overall it was good.

*I listened to the audio book* First off, I wish that I could have rated this higher but there were a few flaws that makes me personally feel like I can’t with a good feeling. Let me explain.

First off, I want to start out with the pros so that I can start off this review as positive as possible. The premise of this book is COOL. I mean picking 6 people to continue the human race on a new planet?! Right up my alley. The author did an excellent job of making this cool with space trainings, science talk, and a bad ass main character (Naomi) who is super smart and a wonderful person to look up if you’re reading this as a young person. This book is very diverse. And it was fast paced and exciting. I don’t want to get to much into it but I liked the twist at the end and felt pretty good about the way it ended!

However, let’s start with the cons. I want to start off by saying I didn’t personally LOVE the audio book. I feel super bad because I didn’t know the author read her own book but the whole time I didn’t love who played Naomi... oops that’s the author ? She was just monotoned in my opinion. But I got used to it after awhile. The story seemed a little preachy. That’s all I’ll say about that. And a little unbelievable. I truly did not feel these kids were ready to go to space because their trainings seemed... tame? Haha I don’t know. Maybe I’m getting too silly with it but that’s how I felt. Overall, as much as I loved the idea of this book I didn’t think the execution was 100%. I enjoyed my time reading but I feel like this is a little bit of a forgettable read which is why I have to keep it at 3 stars.

Humans have trashed the Earth. Climate change has raised the oceans and drowned many cities. Humanity's last best hope is to choose a team of six teenagers to go on a mission to Jupiter's moon Europa to terraform it for a new home for humanity. This book tells the story of the twenty-four kids who will be competing for the six spots. The book is told from two points of view. Leo is an orphan from Rome who lost his parents and beloved younger sister when when a tsunami wave hit Rome. As the story begins, he is getting ready to die himself since he has no more hope. He has been chosen to represent Italy primarily for his swimming ability. He has a positive attitude about going to Europa because it will help humanity and there is nothing left on Earth for him.Naomi is a science nerd. While her family has had to move to higher ground a couple to times, she still lives with her parents and her beloved younger brother who has a defective heart. The last thing she wants to do is go permanently to Europa and leave her family. She doesn't have a choice, though, because being chosen is equivalent to being drafted. All the kids are also told that if they deliberately try to be sent home, they will be prosecuted and imprisoned. This story follows the training the kids go through including injections that are supposed to help them survive on Europa. Noami's roommate has a bad reaction to the injections and washes out of the program. Another of the candidates goes crazy which Naomi believes is because of the injections but the kids are told that he had a previously undiagnosed psychological issue. Naomi becomes more and more sure that the kids aren't being given the whole story and begins to do some research using hacking software her brother slipped to her as a going away present. She and Leo begin a friendship which leads to a romance even though he is still convinced that the mission is a good one even while Naomi becomes more and more sure that it is not. There are also interpersonal problems for the kids to deal with two. Leo's rival for the dive expert on the mission is Beckett Wolfe who happens to be the nephew of the President of the United States. He is willing to do anything to sabotage Leo's chances including an attempted murder. The story was exciting, action-packed and had a nice romance. It also begins a series. I have read a few similar books recently. THE COUNTDOWN CONSPIRACY by Katie Slivensky, NYXIA by Scott Reintgen, and UNEARTHED by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner all have a similar themes for science fiction fans who want more while waiting for book 2.

Oh my ~ did I just cry on the train? Yes, I surely did. This book started as a basic Sci-fi YA book, with people needing to leave Earth in matter to survive and save our planet. But a whole conspiracy settled along the pages. It was thrilling. And I loved the romance, nothing was rushed, and the characters are amazing. When you think everything goes too easy, plot twists appear and take your breath. Loved it!

A good mix of science fiction and romance within an Earth where the affects of industrialization and climate change have pretty much destroyed the planet. I loved the science aspects of the book. I thought it was a bit too preachy about the effect of climate change. The romance was an interesting side plot. I thought the ending of the story and the obvious set for the next could have been done better.

teen sci fi adventure (incidental cultural diversity - main character is Iranian-American from L.A. and other characters are representative of the other 1st world nations--China, Singapore, Russia); set in a world where irreversible climate change has destroyed hope of human life continuing on Earth).

This was ok, but for an adventure story (where even the smallest mistake can be fatal) it didn't really hook me in.

Looking to escape an increasingly devastated earth, the international community selects Europa as a site for future colonization. And who better to colonize a distant moon and save humanity than six teenagers? NASA teams up with the International Space Training Camp to recruit the top 24 teens in the world in a competition to save mankind. The 24 teens will train, learn and push themselves to the limits, until the final six are chosen to go on the space journey. But surviving the mission to Europa is not a given. Astronauts from the Athena crew have already died on its surface.

This book focuses primarily on Leonardo Danieli from Italy and Naomi Ardalan of the United States. Leo lost his family in the flooding of Rome, but because his strong swimming abilities, Leo will compete to serve as the mission’s underwater specialist.Naomi, an Iranian-American from Los Angeles has a command of computers and her ability to think on her feet would make her an important asset to the team. She doesn't want to leave her family and her brother is too ill for them to join her on Europa if the mission is successful. She also suspects there’s something deeper going on, and she’s determined to expose it, both to protect the other finalists and to get herself kicked out of the program so that she can return to her family.

The Final Six is a fast-paced book that would definitely appeal to teens and pre-teens. I was disappointed that it ended in a cliffhanger but at least the second book has been published so I'll pick it up and continue the story.

The Final Six is set in the not too distant future as climate change causes the world’s lands to be swallowed by the sea. The future of mankind is hanging in the balance as cities are destroyed and chaos occurs all over the world. A group of twenty-four young people, from all over the globe, are brought together to be trained for a unique mission to colonize one of Jupiter’s moons. Out of these twenty-four, only six will be chosen to build a new world. This was a fast-moving, action packed YA read that kept me engrossed from start to finish. The two main characters were well crafted and likable. Naomi, an Iranian-American engineering and science genius and Italian Leo, a former champion Olympic swimmer. While Naomi would rather stay on Earth with her family, Leo, is eager to go and is grateful for this opportunity to change his fate and make Italy and his dead family proud. Of course being a YA book, a romance develops between these two but the author kept it fairly believable. While travelling in space and saving humanity is a dream job for most of these young people, there is a dark side that is just barely hinted at. I believe that this is the first book in a trilogy and I will certainly be looking for the next book in order to continue my read about this quest.

First off, credit where credit is due, I have to applaud Monir for the diversity in The Final Six. It's so refreshing to not only see both a female and a male main character in this story, but the fact that Naomi and Leo, while they share a destiny, are so different is wonderful. The differences in their views about the competition, their ethnic backgrounds, and their family lives all come together to create a beautiful story about growth through the pursuit of a common goal. I loved how ambitious both of them were because, as I stated above, it's great to see strong male and female characters side by side. We need more of that. As for the plot, I can say that the science fiction aspects of this book were really accessible. I loved the addition of VR and AI! The Final Six easily walks that line between sharing the technology of the future and still being something that you can find yourself picturing. It helps, of course, that Monir has an uncanny ability to write beautifully descriptive scenes. The competition manages to pull the reader in quickly, and make you feel like you're part of the action. I even found myself rooting for the friendship to romance brewing between our two characters, despite the fact that I'm normally anti-romance. Could I have done without that? Probably, but the fact that I didn't dislike it was a nice surprise. Why then, you ask, did I rate this at four stars rather than five? First there's the fact that, despite how different Naomi and Leo are in many aspects, our two main characters are pretty difficult to tell apart in their POVs. If there hadn't been headers on the chapters letting me know whose mind I was currently in, I would have been lost a lot more. My other issue was, and I know this is just the way that my particular brand of reading brain works, there were so many unexplained things that were just conveniently happening. I mentioned how perfect the descriptive writing was in relation to the competition technology. That's why I was a little baffled as to why there wasn't any explanations for how electricity works now, why Earth is being abandoned instead of fixed, and why the treatment only works on teenagers. Am I being nitpicky? Possibly. None of that took away from my overall enjoyment. Still, I have so many questions. So, after a lot of thought, I settled on a solid four star rating. I haven't yet read a book similar to this, so I'm pretty happy with the journey I was taken on. The ending is a blatant cliffhanger, so rest assured that there's another book coming down the pipeline. Maybe that one will answer the rest of my questions? Only time will tell.

In the not so distant future, climate change devastates planet Earth. Massive Tsunamis destroy countries around the world, millions and millions of people are dead. Not much is left. With high hopes of saving the human race, world governments unite with a plan to finally explore the final frontier by colonizing space. A massive high-tech spaceship is built, Jupiter is the chosen destination. Six of the brightest and fittest teenagers from around the globe will be chosen for this most perilous mission, a desperate shot on saving earth’s inhabitants from total annihilation. Twenty-Four teenagers are selected for their advanced skills and mental abilities. They are brought together to the Johnson Space center near NASA to undergo a month of intense and vigorous astronaut training, mental and physical testing, and to experience simulators that mimic the environment of not only the rocket they will launch in, but of the spaceship they will explore the galaxies in. Teams will work together in mock environments of Jupiter’s harsh icy terrain, most of which will be under the frozen sea. Half way through this strenuous training, twelve competitors will be eliminated, six more a week before the launch. This story gives “survival of the fittest” a whole new meaning.Alexandra Monir’s exhilarating new Young Adult sci-fi novel is a high-octane rollercoaster ride depicting the competition and chance of a life time for six lucky teens to perform at their highest peak. The grand prize being a one way ticket to the stars. The atmosphere of this fast paced page turner is that of the high stress Olympic contestants experience when trying to win a gold medal. These 24 kids undergo incredible duress both physical and mental, some egos run high, sabotage and secret missions of infiltration involve threats of murder and imprisonment to those attempting to oust out the weak. When two kids are shockingly eliminated, horrifying events cause alarm and fear. As things go seriously wrong, some believe they are in danger and risks are run to uncover the truth even under threat of death! Devouring this novel in two sittings, I was absolutely riveted. The author has great talent in developing wonderful characters full of depth, and knows how to keep her readers continually anxious as to just what will happen next! Her writing style is smooth, the story flows well, and is detailed with a great amount of scientific research that is easy to grasp. Readers will be on the edge of their seats reading intense scenes of peer pressure rivalry, cool astrophysics and new technology, as well as exciting thrill-ride space race training exercises that the chosen six must endure. Unputdownable, The Final Six offers up a plate of mystery, romance, action, espionage, and a crumbling dystopian world! It’s sure to be a winner and I will be impatiently waiting for the sequel! Five Stars without blinking!
