I really liked the first book in the series but I loved this book! The plot twists and pacing kept me on the edge of my seat. I think the first book was longer than it needed to be. There was a lot of repetition and redundancy in the writing. This book, however, lacked the same repetitive feel and captured my attention completely. I'm looking forward to the next installment.Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

Another fast paced, page turner! More twists in this one than in her first one, "Stillhouse Lake", made my eyes roll a little, and a little darker, but still well done. I couldn't put it down!

Great follow-up to Stillhouse Lake. These books are tense and smart. As I read them I'm in awe of the character of Gwen and what she does in order to protect her children from their serial-killer father and the angry public that blames Gwen for her husband's murders. Rachel Caine never shies away from the showing us the scope of the horrors Gwen experiences and she never once uses gore and violence to titillate. #KillmanCreek #NetGalley

Gwen Proctor and her children, are on the run. When her husband escaped from prison, she receives a message that has her running again. Her new identity has been leaked and she decides it is time to go on the offensive. With the help of Sam, she leaves her two children with two people she can trust and goes hunting Melvin. But Melvin isn't the only danger. Someone is playing a very intricate game designed to destroy her entire life and make those closest to her believe she is guilty. The big question is, Who is Absolom?

Killman Creek is the second book in the Stillhouse Lake series. The first book is excellent and ends in a cliff hanger, so I really wanted to find out what happened next. This story was different, it was told from various points of view (Gwen, Sam, Lanny, Connor and Sam Cade) and did not have the same suspense feel to it. I enjoyed the story, but not as much as the first in the series. Gwen's POV makes up the majority of the story, but you get to see how the people closest to her feel about the situation. I liked this difference as it helped develop the plot for me. I also listened to this book and the various voice actors used for each POV added to the enjoyment of the story. The story was well-paced, with the suspense building until the satisfying end. It was nice to have some closure regarding Melvin, he was such a terrible person. There were a lot of issues involving the kids and others who seemed to turn on Gwen during this story that were not really dealt with, but there were reasons about why they did what they did given in the story. I am looking forward to the next book in this series to see where the author is going to take this story. If you enjoy suspense, thrillers, some creepy characters and a strong female character, pick up the Stillhouse Lake series.

Where to begin... I read Stillhouse Lake and loved it so my expectations were really high for Killman Creek. I am pleased to announce that my expectations were exceeded. This book is a non-stop, heart pounding follow up to Stillhouse Lake. Picks up right where she left off. This book delves more into the kids and what they feel. It is a quick read, which for me means that it is really really good. :) The twists in this book were not what I expected which is always awesome.

More twists as the main character both hunts and is hunted by her serial killer husband. There was a twist at the end which I did not see coming but it's scarily plausible. Good read.

Gwen Proctor won the battle to save her kids from serial killer, Melvin Royal, and his league of accomplices. Now, she realizes that she is far from safe. She and her kids have been on the run for a long time and she was hoping that they had finally found a safe place for them to plant some roots. Now, the letter arrives threatening her. Melvin has escaped. Gwen decides that she no longer is waiting for Melvin, she is going to go after him.

This was a great second book and even more fast paced and absorbing than the first! I can't wait to read more from Rachel Caine as I loved her Great Library series. I will probably look into her Morganville Vampire series next

Once I had finished [Stillhouse Lake] I knew I had to get this one. How was Gwen was going to deal with her ex husband serial killer Melvin Royal escaping prison? Each chapter presents a point of view from one of the 4 major characters. While I usually find this skipping around annoying...this was very well done and only added to the story. Some of the actions were "off"...like a woman with no training whatsoever going after a serial killer ...or a FBI agent not checking a suspect for weapons...but the story itself held the attention. While I usually don't mind reading out of order, it simply can't be done with these books. You will never sort out what is happening...so read them in order.

This was really good. I didn't like it quite as much as the first book in the series but I still liked it better than most books I pick up. After the events of the previous books, I was really eager to read more of Gwen's story. Once I started listening to this audiobook, I found myself totally immersed in the story because if I wasn't listening to it, I was thinking about it. I really ended up enjoying this installment in the series. The biggest difference between this book and the previous one is that this book is told from several points of view. The first book was told entirely from Gwen's perspective so I kind of expected this to do the same. I ended up really liking the fact that the author decided to mix things up a bit in this book by using not only Gwen's point of view but also including each of her children and Sam in the mix. This was really a different kind of story and I think that having the other perspectives made the doubts between the characters feel much more realistic.I found much of this book frightening to think about. Of course, the thought of being married to someone that turns out to be a serial killer is scary but this book went beyond that. I haven't really considered how technology could be used against an individual and how helpless anyone is to stop it from happening. I know that a lot of bad things happen online so the descriptions of the dark web in this story were hard to think about.I was happy to see all of the key players from the first book back for this installment. It was nice to get to spend a little bit of time in the heads of Lanny, Connor, and Sam. Lanny and Connor have been through a lot and have been changed by things outside of their control. I would expect them to have mixed feelings about a lot of things so it was nice to get to really see what they were thinking. There were times in this book that I didn't care for some of the things Sam was doing or thinking but I understood his doubt.I liked that this book used four different narrators to tell the story. Each narrator handled all of the chapters told from their character's point of view and I think that they all did a great job representing their character. I thought that they each brought a lot of emotion to the story and each had a very pleasant speaking voice. I wouldn't hesitate to listen to more from any of the four narrators that worked on this book.I would recommend this book to others. This is the second book in the Stillhouse Lake series which I think is best read in order. This book did come to a very satisfying conclusion and I am looking forward to reading more in the series as soon as it is available.

This is definitely a worthwhile sequel to Stillhouse Lake, and continues the saga of the Royals into a whole new chapter, and new frightening conspiracy. I'm not entirely sure where they're going to go with this in book three, but for now, the characters are still engaging, the narrators compelling, and the story quite gripping. It still very much reminds me of The Following, but with a somewhat less compelling and likable main villain. Nobody is ever going to be upset if or when Melvin Royal dies, though, granted, we also don't see a whole lot of the guy even now, for all that he hovers in the background as a nightmare character throughout. That's okay though, because things develop well around him, and the threat still feels palpable regardless.

The story begun in STILLHOUSE LAKE comes to its heart-pounding conclusion in this book. Gwen has survived the trap set by her serial killer ex-husband but the safety that she found for herself and her children has been destroyed. She is no longer the meek, ignorant young wife who was unaware of her husband's crimes. But is she strong enough to finally take down the man who is haunting her life and threatening her children?Gwen is going hunting for her ex-husband. Assisting her her is Sam Cade, who sister was her husband's final victim. He, too, has a strong motive to find and destroy Melvin Royal. Sam and Gwen are starting a romance but it isn't easy because Sam is just beginning to trust the woman he thought was her husband's accomplice. The power of social media is a strong presence in this book. Gwen and her kids are targets of internet trolls and have been since her husband's crimes were discovered. Part of the story has Sam and Gwen trying to track down Absalom who first seemed to help Gwen when she was trying to start a new life but who was revealed as a minion of her ex-husband. Now Gwen and Sam learn that Absalom's internet harassment is only the tip of iceberg that hides child porn, blackmail, and snuff films in its depths. This story is told from four points of view. Gwen, Sam, Lanny, and Connor all tell the story in their own chapters. Lanny and Connor both have interesting points of view. Lanny knows that her father is a murderer but she still remembers times when he was just "dad." Connor is even more conflicted. He was only seven when his father's crimes were revealed. He has even stronger memories of good times with his father. He now has a cellphone that he can use to contact his father which he has to keep secret from his mother and Lanny. He also knows that his father is a murderer but is still looking for a way to connect with his father. This was an excellent thriller packed with action and dangerous situations. I was especially moved when videos surfaced that showed Gwen complicit in Melvin's crimes and which her children and Sam believed. Gwen was even more isolated after they were revealed and even more determined to kill Melvin and protect her children.Read STILLHOUSE LAKE first and then read this excellent conclusion to the story.

I have come to love Rachel Caine!! And this is an excellent example of her amazingness❤️? the fact that this could be reality is very creepy...the only thing taking that star is how annoyingly stupid Connor is after all that. I can understand though, sometimes your mind plays tricks but still, no.

Good book sequel read Stillhouse Lake first. Dark thriller. Recommended

What a terrible, terrible book. To fill in for its lack of cleverness, it substitutes with fowl language, violence, bad ideology of twisted revenge, and depressing character portraits. The only reason I listened to the end is that I like to finish what I started. Don't waste your time.
  • (4/5)
Awesome! Left me on my toes yet again. Can't wait to start the 3rd book.
  • (5/5)
I loved this book better than the first in the series because of the multi narrator production! Fantastic follow up to characters in the first book! No clue where the 3rd book is headed but I am ready to hear Gwen Proctor kick some more ass!

I was on the edge of my seat. ❤️

Phew! Edge of the seat! This continues the story of Stillhouse Lake. The hunt is on for Melvin Royal and as always he knows all the moves practically before they happen.

Killman Creek by Rachel Caine is a 2017 Thomas & Mercer publication. This book is the follow up novel to Stillhouse Lake. I’m not going to mince words here- I strongly advise you to read the books in this series in order- you will be glad you did! To keep spoilers at a minimum, for those who have not yet read “Stillhouse Lake”, I will keep this short… and rather vague. But, my experience with the book should be evident all the same-From start to finish this book is an intense, heart stropping thrill ride. Each of the four main characters adds their own first- person narrative as stunning, shocking, and grueling events unfold. Not only are new and fragile threads of trust tried, but seemingly unbreakable bonds are broken, as dark forces work to divide and conquer. As with the first book, the atmosphere is dark and creepy, but this second book is a little more emotional and the pacing is relentless. Thanks to my Kindle Unlimited subscription, I was also able to add the audio for this book, which added another layer of enjoyment to the story. I breezed through this one in two days! Good stuff! Can’t wait to see how the series will progress from here. 4 stars

Overall I give this a 4.75 rating. I thoroughly enjoyed this book . Can't wait to dig into the next one.
  • (5/5)
Excellent! This series has quickly become one of my favorites!

In Book #2, the story is told from the perspective of 4 of the main characters. I loved seeing into the minds of all of them. It was an interesting tool that I hope continues with Book #3... Which I will probably start today.

Gwen Proctor managed to defeat her serial killer ex-husband, Melvin Royal, and save her children from his accomplices when they infiltrated their home at Stillhouse Lake. Now that Melvin has escaped prison, a whole new set of concerns turns their world upside down. Suddenly Gwen, Lanny, and Connor realize that they are not safe anywhere.Stillhouse Lake and all the hopes the Proctor family’s house held there are gone. Instead of reverting to going on the run, Gwen decides to take a stand and become the hunter instead of the hunted. With the aid of the brother of one of Melvin’s victims, she set out to track down the monster she used to call her husband. As the depths to the evil that Melvin encompasses come to light, Gwen begins to fear if she will ever be successful in ridding him from her life. Will Gwen be able to escape Melvin once and for all or will he destroy her before she has the chance?Rachel Caine brings back a stronger, angrier, and more determined Gwen Proctor in KILLMAN CREEK, the second novel in a series focusing on her life. Instead of running from her fears, Gwen has decided to seek vengeance for the horrible crimes that rocked her world five years ago and the man that caused them. STILLHOUSE LAKE was an exhilarating ride with a family trying to escape their past. Caine stepped up the notch with the second edition. I was at the edge of my seat wanting to know what was going to happen next. I raced through the last few chapters wanting to know how things would end. KILLMAN CREEK is perfect for a reader looking to go on the hunt for a serial killer and step into not only their mind, but the minds of those they have impacted.
