About this audiobook

From Colleen Hoover, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of It Starts with Us and It Ends with Us, comes a moving and haunting novel of family, love, and the power of the truth.

Not every mistake deserves a consequence. Sometimes the only thing it deserves is forgiveness.

The Voss family is anything but normal. They live in a repurposed church, newly baptized Dollar Voss. The once cancer-stricken mother lives in the basement, the father is married to the mother’s former nurse, the little half-brother isn’t allowed to do or eat anything fun, and the eldest siblings are irritatingly perfect. Then, there’s Merit.

Merit Voss collects trophies she hasn’t earned and secrets her family forces her to keep. While browsing the local antiques shop for her next trophy, she finds Sagan. His wit and unapologetic idealism disarm and spark renewed life into her—until she discovers that he’s completely unavailable. Merit retreats deeper into herself, watching her family from the sidelines, when she learns a secret that no trophy in the world can fix.

Fed up with the lies, Merit decides to shatter the happy family illusion that she’s never been a part of before leaving them behind for good. When her escape plan fails, Merit is forced to deal with the staggering consequences of telling the truth and losing the one boy she loves.

Poignant and powerful, Without Merit explores the layers of lies that tie a family together and the power of love and truth.

Super redundant - I felt like I read the same things over and over again between two characters.

Unique story with rich complex characters. I’m always impressed by Hoover’s ability to come up with plots that are both so unique and yet relatable at the same time. Never a boring stereotypical predictable romance story- her books grab your attention right away & keep you following the characters through their ups and downs, hoping for a happy ending.

It was a pretty good book but the voice of the narrator was pretty annoying tbh. It didn't sound anything like a teenager like portrayed in the book.

Just not like anything else she’s written. It’s more like a PSA than a story.

I have mixed feelings about the book. I didn't like it or hate it. It had topics (mental health) that need to be talked about again, and Hoover made the book engaging. I'm not sure why I'm getting mixed feelings about it though.

So different from her other books but I loved it. It did take me a little while to get into it but it was totally worth it.

Opening the conversation of mental health in such a non judgmental and hopeful way is beautiful. I love her ability to write about so many touchy subjects in raw but real ways.

I love Colleen Hoover but this was probably my least favorite book of hers. I also wasn’t a fan of the narrator. I felt like her tone was awkward and didn’t always fit the plot.

It’s the least interesting book I’ve ever read their is no turning point nothing catchy just like telling a silly event that happened with someone . I waisted my time for nothing 3/10

This book is a level one of spice, which was much different from her other books. But I was pleasantly surprised bc I was laughing most of the book. I thought it was very funny but it also touched on some serious topics- the best of both worlds I guess. It was pretty good! I definitely recommend this book!

It was ok, it was a struggle to get to the end just for a lack of interest … I did like the ending and I get the angle that the author was painting … it was nice and heart warming at the end but overall the book was just ok to me along the way
