Descripción

All she wanted was the truth, but she'll wish she never found out.

When Catherine wakes up alone one morning, she thinks her husband has gone for a run before work. But Simon never makes it to the office. His running shoes are by the front door. Nothing is missing—except him.

Catherine knows Simon must be in trouble. He wouldn't just leave her. He wouldn't leave the children.

But Simon knows the truth—about why he left and what he's done. He knows things about his marriage that it would kill Catherine to find out. The memories she holds onto are lies.

While Catherine faces a dark new reality at home, Simon's halfway around the world, alive and thriving. He's doing whatever it takes to stay one step ahead of the truth.

But he can't hide forever, and when he reappears twenty-five years later, Catherine will finally learn who he is.

And wish she'd stayed in the dark.

Holy miscommunication. I was afraid for Simon every time he opened his mouth. It was a train wreck I couldn’t stop reading.Told in an alternating POV in a he said / she said kind of way, Simon finally tells Kitty why he left 25 years ago and what he’s been up to the whole time.

The end was shocking! It was a bit of an effort to slog through to it though.

I really enjoyed this book. It was not what I expected. A beautifully sad story of miscommunication gone horribly wrong in a marriage with a very dark edge.

This was so hard to listen to. Great narrator's, but the story... Urgh. The main characters selfishness was almost too much to bare. I clocked the most of the ending before I happened, but there were still moments of shock. Katherine's strength was almost overshadowed by Simon's weakness. What a vile character he was! I found I just needed to get to the end, but I'm not quite sure why!

John Marrs lulls you into thinking this is a story about relationships gone wrong then slowly edges towards a gut-wrenching finale.
    Narrators do a brilliant job.

Absolutely riveting! You Won't regret this one. I loved it from beginning till end.

Written expertly to draw me in emotiinally to feel loathing for the main characters for all their selfishness.

This book was awful. Horrible, unlikable character and twist was stupid; not worth slogging through the whole book to get to. Very hollow, unrewarding, and unenjoyable. I wish I’d stopped reading sooner.

Wow. Words can’t describe this ending, or the anger I felt for the protagonist

What an amazing book. I was shouting one minute and crying the next. Beautiful writing

This is SO hard for me to rate, I found this to be a bit boring! And I don't know if it's because of the audiobook? I finished it because I wanted to know what ACTUALLY happend

An exceptional work. Readers are perfect. Full of twists and turns. Very complex. Believable.

    Version: (audiobook)
Absolutely could not get into this book. I tried and made it thru about 9 chapters, the last 2-3 were very difficult to stay focused. Maybe the timing wasn't right but nothing about it was working for me. DNF.

The narrating was fantastic and the story was interesting and very well written. Very well plotted out, lots of surprises.

Great book, kept me intrigued until the end, interesting characters

Time goes by quickly while I listened to that story when hours actually had gone by.
  • (5/5)
Very intriguing I just had to know all the reasons, all the morsels given weren't enough. I found myself mad and disappointed at the husband. I could be such good friends with the wife. There should be a sequel! Perfect example of how reacting can impact a life.

    Wow wow wow.
Narration was flawless. Story was unbelievably complex and just SO well written. I know if I had read it instead of listened, I wouldn’t have had the same thoughts though toward the end- it needed to be 3 or 4 chapters shorter. But again, I think that was just the result of utilizing a different way than the author intended. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed listening to this and the story is just- I’m speechless.

The finale was easy to figure out but the story was engaging.
  • (5/5)
Great read (well.. listen). Kept me interested throughout. Twists were a bonus. Throughout the story I couldn't decide whose side I was actually on lol. Narrators were great as well. Would certainly recommend

This is nothing more then “men are to blame for everything”
The ending is so predictable, and was a let down.

It was slow to start, though it had the element of suspense. Where did Simon go? It would go forward 25 years, then back, then forward again. The plot felt like a candle burning at both ends until the middle became the end. Who's Billy? They mentioned a Billy many times, and I just HAD to know who Billy was! Once I found out, wowwwww, my jaw dropped to my stomach. This was a good thriller. Not as good as John Marrs' book "The One," but still good. I gave it 4 stars out of 5 only because it was slow starting, and I struggled to get into it. But I'm glad I kept reading because it finally snowballed into this crazy plot.
