      With the backdrop of a Gingerbread competition, amidst pie baking and healing heartbreaks a murder mystery unravels. This is a pretty typical cozy mystery, standing out because of the characters and the small town with the spirit of Christmas going all year round. I listened to the audiobook and I enjoyed it. In this case, the main character, Cinnamon doesn't stumble across a dead body more than Cinnamon to start investigating on her own. Especially since she becomes the primes suspect. But she doesn't, and I can't say it's because she trusts the police to do their job. She just kind of accepts the fact and focuses on the competition. Even with that it, it was a decent read. Cinnamon is a character that is enjoyable, I didn't cringe at the decisions that she was making-though she was slow to getting to them. It was disappointing that the big reveal relied heavily on a character, but we didn't really see how he came to the conclusions that he did. All in all, a quick decent read. If you enjoy cozies, I'd say that this is worth checking out

      The writing is not great, and the plot is a bit jumbled, but MAN this was a fun listen. I enjoyed listening to it on the way to work, and I was never tempted to play at a faster speed to get through the less-interesting parts. Don't get me wrong, this book quality-wise is not good, but it makes for good entertainment.

      This was terrible! The writing and narrating kept me engaged and listening, however the murder mystery portion of the story was significantly lacking… Lacking clues, lacking depth, and only 15% of the entire story was about the actual murder mystery.

      It’s almost time for the annual gingerbread house competition, and Cinnamon is determined to win. But a few things get in her way, like a stray dog, a dead body, and a break-in at her pie shop. This first book of the series sets up the characters, but it’s also a great mystery. Cinnamon is a strong female character, yet she has a softer side, too. She takes care of her grandpa, a somewhat crusty old-timer, and is always ready to lend a helping hand, or to try to rescue a stray dog. Or to perhaps rekindle an old romance. It’s not always fun at Christmas River, but it’s always interesting.

      Murder in Christmas River: A Christmas Cozy Mystery (Christmas River Cozy, Book 1) Thought this would make a good Christmas read. Starts out with the baker, Cinnamon Peters, divorced now and she makes pies.Thinks Christmas River is the best place in Oregon. Kara has dated a lot and knows many of the townsfolk.Gingerbread house competition is about to start. Bakers from the town have been practicing...she lives with her grandfather, who raised her.Love tips about pie making as she makes them. Her dog Huckleberry keeps her company most nights she is baking.One comes up dead in the woods outside of the shop...her gingerbread mansion is destroyed, her ex is to marry her baking assistant..Interesting how the dog helps them solve the case. All the clues and so close yet they are so far away to finding the murder....I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).
