- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Excellent historical read but I must agree, even as an African American historian, with my white colleagues that it seems very much like an abolitionist's fictional account set in realistic tones.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A look into one man's life as a slave. Researched and authorized as an authentic narrative.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Should be mandatory reading or listening for all. Thank you
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was an excellent book to listen to, other than the one reader with a thick accent whom I couldn't understand. I do wish one reader could do the entire book but I understand that it's was done by volunteers so I appreciate what we can get. Now I want to find the original, full version of the book that covers his service in the War of 1812.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Very good book!
So sad to hear how the slaves were treated. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A powerful narrative but somewhat dubious. It seems more like a collection of tales written by abolitionists. It's a good read and the torture of humans is powerful. It offers great perspective.
