"An unforgettable, unflinching glimpse into a mind driven to murder" (San Francisco Chronicle)-the #1 national bestseller from Stephen King about a housekeeper with a long-hidden secret from her past…one that tests her own will to survive.
Dolores Claiborne is suspected of killing Vera Donovan, her wealthy employer, and when the police question her, she tells the story of her life, harkening back to her disintegrating marriage and the suspicious death of her violent husband thirty years earlier. Dolores also tells of Vera's physical and mental decline and how she became emotionally demanding in recent years.
Given a voice as compelling as any in contemporary fiction, the strange intimacy between Dolores and Vera-and the link that binds them-unfolds in Dolores's account. It shows, finally, how fierce love can be, and how dreadful its consequences. And how the soul, harrowed by the hardest life, can achieve a kind of grace.
Hailed by Entertainment Weekly as a "tour de force, Dolores Claiborne is "a literary triumph. The finest of King novels…a plot of enormous energy…Read this book" (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel).

Great Book! Even Better considering the reader knew how to handle the characters differently!

This story takes you through a world of emotions! It's a excellently written book! Bravo, Stephen King, bravo!!
Marina
Amazing story telling narration. Not your usual horror SK. More like Green Mike but without supernatural elements.

Interesting psychological review of a tough New England woman. The audio production was terrific.

Delores Claiborne was my first audiobook rented from the library 20 years ago. I listened intently to the difference in breathing and speech patterns. Delores Claiborne waved me into the world of Stephen King. I laughed, cried, remembered my pain, yet continued to move forward.

I have listed to this year's ago and it is just as good now as it was then.

Mr. King was at its best. No horror story he ever wrote compared to this. He gave understanding to a desperate wife and mother who at the same time struggles with a difficult employer. But this book as good as it is wouldn’t have been near as impactful had it not been for the performer who read it

Short and sweet! I really enjoyed this quick listen. Most of Kings are dozens of hours, so this was a nice reprieve. The voice acting was superb.

The voice acting and writing were amazing! The pace and character development are perfect!

Pretty short fun read not King’s best work but far from the worst. Also love the Narrator she nails the role and New England accent.

The story is captivating. You will not be able to put it down. Mr King’s best!

Even a book that is well written in all of the ways I value will lose me if the narration is not good. I can’t think of anyone who could have narrated this novel as effectively as Frances Sternhagen did. I had listened to it before, years ago, and enjoyed it so much I decided to repeat the experience.
