Good angst, LOVED the heroine.
I enjoyed this book, the characters Nicholas and Isabel were interesting and I felt they had good chemistry together. I wish I had got to read more about the secondary characters Lara and Rock. I look forward to the next in the series.
This was a fun read. I would like to read about Juliana’s story as well
The second book in Love by Numbers series has a darker tone than the first. While the first book is humorous, here we have a few darker themes: abused women, pregnant runaways, gambler fathers and so on.
Since the women's magazine singled him out as 'Lord to Land', he has been pursued by every unmarried woman in London (at balls, in taverns), so Nicholas St.John decided to use the opportunity to travel north in order to escape them. He didn't expect to meet Lady Isabel Townsend there.
I loved Isabel. It seems that this series have wonderful heroines: strong and different in a way. After the death of her father who didn't show at their estate for seven years, she is left to take care of her ten year old brother and the estate. She doesn't hunt Nicholas as you might think because of the blurb.
The only thing which was rushed was the time they had to fall in love. Three or four days, but considering the way Isabel lived, I guess it's not surprising. I liked them both. Even with their secrets and insecurities they are wonderful characters. (3.5 stars)

Enjoyable premise and mostly engaging characters but it loses something along the way.
To escape the marriage obsessed daughters of the ton, Lord Nicholas St. John accepts a friends request to locate his missing sister. Nicholas travels to Yorkshire where he encounters Lady Isabel Townsend, the daughter of degenerate Earl, who is struggling to keep her family estate afloat. Neither Nick nor Isabel are interested in romance but one thing leads to another and they soon find themselves unable to fight their attraction despite the secrets that could tear them apart.
Isabel initially comes across as a courageous, admirable and selfless heroine willing to sacrifice everything for the women under her care. Unfortunately, there is a moment toward the end where she says something unforgivable, and this puts a pall on both her character and the book as a whole.
Nick is an honorable hero with a hint of vulnerability that tugs at the heartstrings, but, sadly, the story behind his past in Turkey is barely fleshed out and the background to his friendship with Rock is lacking. Moreover, his romance with Isabel never quite manages to live up to its potential and it feels as if they are merely going through the motions.
Finally, the idea of a 19th century halfway house for women is intriguing if somewhat unrealistic and there is very little information on the various women who have found refuge at Minerva House.
All in all, this book is not as good as Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake and I sincerely hope that Simon and Juliana’s story is better.

You know the feeling of being incredibly thirsty, and that thirst being quenched with an ice cold glass of water? Or the feeling of being broke and finding five dollars in your pocket? Well that is how I felt reading Ten Ways to be Adored When Landing a Lord, utter and total fulfillment.
All week I have been book hopping, unable to find a story that captured me. The real issue was I read Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake and craved more of Sarah MacLean's writing style. On top of that I had already purchased Ten Ways to be Adored When Landing a Lord and it was sitting on my bookshelf calling out my name "Danielle! Come read me, you know you want to". Never one to turn down temptation, I gave in and now I have to fight the urge to run out and purchase the next book in this series.
This novel started off a little slow, but I think it might be because I had just read Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake and I was comparing the two. Nine Rules is incredibly fast and the story starts off right away. With Ten ways to be Adored the novel has more back story about the characters that needs to be explained, so it slowed down the story slightly. Once the two characters meet the story takes off and did not disappoint me.
The Heroine in this story Isabel is strong, beautiful, and guarded. Isabel has the weight of the world on her shoulders, and she is beginning to crack under the pressure of it all. Our leading man in this story is Nicholas, he is a Lord, dashingly hansom, and wounded from heartbreak. Nicholas and Isabel's worlds collide for an incredible love story that I could not stop reading. Sarah MacLean does an amazing job of making you as the reader want to jump into the leading ladies skin and live out her love story. I am a sucker for an over the top, fall head over heels love story, I can’t help myself.
If I had doubts about the beginning of this story the ending sold me completely! This novel has just the right amount of conflict between characters that leaves you riffling through pages to find out what is going to happen. The ending to the story had me tearing up; I had tears falling from my eyes, real ones. I won't tell you if they were happy tears or not you will have to find that out for yourself.
I highly recommend this novel for adult readers only. Once you have read it please come back here, and make me feel better by admitting you cried too. Friends never let friends cry alone!

Nick is asked by his friend to go searching for his sister who has disappeared. So Nick yearning for a escape from London, after being names the most eligible bachelor in a ladies magazine. He finds himself in Yorkshire, England. Isabel Townsend, when in town stumbles across Nick, after he saves her life, and asks him to look at her marble statues, and has a hope that she will be able to sell them for money, because she has to have the funds that she needs. But then Lord Nicholas and his friend, through a twist of fate, find themselve stuck at the manor due to a terrible rainstorm. After sharing a passionate kiss withg the handsome and irresistable Lord Nicholas, Isabel knows that she is in deep deep trouble. Not just for her girls, younger brother, or the manor, but also her heart.Ten Ways To Be Adored When Landing A Lord is the second installment in the Ralston's series, and a pure delight. I love reading the first one of the series, and I was eager to read Nick's story, and I am so glad that I was able to get my hands on it.This is probably one of my favorite romances of the year! I truly loved everything about this story, it was such a delicious romance, definitely packed with romance, intrigue, a bit of danger, witty humor and passion, what more could a girl ask for right? I truly loved all the characters involved in the story, as well as the plot for the story. There were moments that made me laugh, moments that made me wonder, be surprised and even cry at the end. I have no complaints as far as this one goes, defnitely one I would consider buying to put on my shelves to re read as much as I would like. I have truly enjoyed reading from this author, and is at the top of the ladder when it comes to well written and riveting historical romances!
I was disappointed with the first book in this series, but this second book was a fun read. I liked the "marbles" art history element as well, that was a fun thing to learn about this time period.
After being named "London's Lord to Land" Nicholas St. John escapes to the country to avoid the fawning females. At the request of a friend he is hunting for the friend's run away sister. Eventually he stumbles on Lady Isabel Townsend's home for women hiding from abusive relationships and other hard situations. She tries to unsuccessfully hide her secret, but can she trust Nicholas when it turns out his query is one of the women in her protection?
What a disappointment. Something was missing. I didn't connect with the characters. I really like MacLean's style and I loved the previous book Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake. It was quite good. Were my expectations too high? No. If she can write Nine Rules, she certainly can write some kick butt stuff.In this one the heroine consistently "cried out" during sex to the point where I almost, almost went back through pages to count how many times it was said. I just wanted to see how many. Dozens? Shows how much the plot was holding me. ok, fine, it's romance and I've heard the "she cried out" thing lots. But, whoa, I got to where the "act" began and I was saying to myself "wait for it, ah, there it is…she cried out…again…and again." There were some other repetitive things going on too but I just can't remember them all at the moment.I was like a kid with a giant most delicious cookie when this book arrived at my doorstep. Meh, I'm so bummed.
Is it just me, or does Sarah MacLean get better and better? Her titles may be long, but truly their cuteness really encompass the writing within! Ten Ways definitely delivers sparkling yet sharp wit and head-butting yet heart-fluttering romance that I have come to love! Truly a diamond of the first water - and I cannot wait for Eleven Scandals to come out!

So when the Duke of Leighton asks Nick for help in finding his sister who has run away from home he quickly gets on the first horse out of London. Lady Isabel is the daughter of a titled wastrel. She has too many responsibilities and very little money. Now that her father has passed she feels it is her duty to make sure that her ten year old brother grows to be the Earl that her father never was.While Nick is in search of a certain Duke's sister he bumps into (and I mean that in the literal sense) Lady Isabel. Since Lady Isabel is in need of money and looking to sell her beloved marbles and Nick dealing in antiquities, they strike a deal. He'll appraise her marbles all without her knowing that he's secretly searching for the Duke's sister. But when their feelings start to escalate Nick knows Isabel is the one for him... now he'll just have to convince her that he's the man for her.Once again I was swept away by Ms. MacLean's storytelling. I loved Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake and I was worried that Ten Ways... would not be able to compete. But I'm happy to report that Ten Ways was just as good as Nine Rules... if not better.I loved the chemistry between Isabel and Nick. Right from their first meeting where he saves her from a runaway coach and she absolutely denies that she was in need of saving I knew that their romance would be one to treasure. Isabel had everything that I look for in a heroine. She's brave, smart, loyal, independent and had the perfect amount of spunk. Nick was charming, seductive, sexy... sigh-worthy. I loved their dialogue and witty banter - they irritated each other most of the time, yet came together perfectly. Both had trust issues and were afraid of love - so their pairing did not come easily - but was so entertaining nonetheless.Aside from the great leading characters, I also fell in love with some of the secondary cast. Isabel's young brother James was just adorable. He stood up for his sister and his relationship with Nick was so sweet. The ladies who inhabit Minerva House are also worth mentioning. Although you don't get too much one-on-one time with them, you do get some of their back stories and the fact that Isabel had a house full of women (from the stableboy to the butler) was plain funny to me. What more can I say other than that I loved this book. I loved its intriguing plot, the witty dialogue, and the many laugh out loud moments. Sarah MacLean has become one of my favorite historical romance authors. Definite auto-buy material. I cannot wait for the next in the series... Eleven Scandals to Start to Win a Duke's Heart (April 2011). And what about those titles? I love them! Highly recommended.
In Sarah MacLean's newest tale she was able to capture all the magic, adventure and steamy hot romance that her made her first historical romance such a success. In this story we now focus on Gabriel's twin brother Nicholas St. John who we met briefly in the first story 9 Rules To Break When Romancing A Rake, now in his own story he defiantly holds his own bringing all that quite intensity, intrigue and drama to the forefront. Drawing in Isabel Townsend, his love interest, who has secrets of her own and little do she know all the drama and action that comes to her and her house inhabitants with her newest house guest. She surely didn't expect for Nicolas St. John to show up at her door and Nicholas didn't expect to fall for the woman behind it. Isabel's quite world in the country and Nicholas quite solitary life soon becomes the center of action that will change Nicolas and Isabel's lives forever.Sarah MacLean took me on an entertaining wild ride with two such strong captivating characters both carrying secrets and fighting for a love that they couldn't fathom happening to them. I really enjoyed how independent and strong both characters were, especially Isabel who had the courage to take life in both hands when things were at there worst and make things better for her and her little brother. During the time period it was refreshing to see a lady not afraid to do what needed to be done, not trying to find a man to fix things for her. I enjoyed Nicholas a.k.a Nick's heart and how caring and genuine he was. How he came to understand and care for Isabel and the others and in overcoming his needs to try and be the hero realized the value in having a partner who was willing to love him as much as he did. The chemistry and courting between Nicholas and Isabel had me on edge flipping page after page to see what would happen next and who would find out the others secret first and whether their growing love could stand after all the truths came out. I liked how MacLean integrated all the rules into the story which added another level of humor to the story. As I said before Sarah MacLean did another amazing job telling a story filled with humor, action, suspense, drama and romance and I can't wait for her next book.
Another great book by Sarah Maclean. Very unique heroine who is running and supporting her own household. The hero meets her while he is searching for a runaway sister of a friend. I absolutely loved Isabel, the heroine. Her background and situation were unique but she trusted the hero when necessary and you could really see their relationship develop as a result. I could see so many other authors fail with this plotline and not allow the maturity of relationship that the hero and heroine have. I can't wait for Sarah Maclean's next book.

He tires of marriage stalkers takes a job to find his friend's sister, which leads him to the delightful, unpredictable, fascinating Lady Isabel.The hero, Nicholas, is wealthy,handsome,eligible, is the twin to a marquis, a hunter(he finds lost people), decided he doesn't want to be in love or get married due to his family's past.
