About this audiobook
Baseball star Cory Brand knows how to win. But off the field, he's spiraling out of control. Haunted by old wounds and regrets, his future seems as hopeless as his past. Until one moment - one mistake - changes everything. To save his career, Cory must go back to the town where it all began. His plan is simple: coach the local Little League team, complete a recovery program, and get out as fast as possible. Instead, he runs headfirst into memories he can't escape . . . and the love he left behind. Faced with a second chance he never expected, Cory embarks on a journey of faith, transformation, and redemption. And along the way, he discovers a powerful truth: no one is beyond the healing of God. Based on the motion picture starring Vivica A. Fox and Scott Elrod, Home Run is an inspirational story of the hope God offers each of us.

Reviews for Home Run

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is a novelization of the movie Home Run, and Travis Thrasher did an amazing job with it.
Cory Brand has a lot of demons haunting from his childhood. He was abused by his alcoholic father both emotionally and physically. When he is given the opportunity to play baseball, or stay behind with the love of his life, who happens to be pregnant, he leaves. Not because he is as selfish as the story begins, but it is later revealed that his father told him he'd fail as a father.
When his life begins to spiral out of control, drowning his pain with alcohol, Cory ends up back in Oklahoma...and his true journey begins... Emma is there, with the son, he never met...and the ghosts that haunt him are still in the old barn...
Can Cory Brand recover his career and his life? Or his he destined to be his father's son? - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A story of loss and forgiveness. Shows how powerfully God can work through others.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5An inspirational story that shows it is never too late to change and that all things are possible with Christ by your side. I found the writing to be straightforward and most of the characters to be well developed. As the book went on and characters grew and were revealed, I found myself getting goosebumps and butterflies, making me feel something is a sign of a good book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5God works in a mysterious way...i don't know if you have come across blog posts that talk about ONE WORD where one word is chosen (through various means) as a lesson for the coming year. Last year, I strongly felt that my one word was Patience. And in August I had a very hard lesson on that as I sat by my Mom's bedside in ICU. Friday I received Home Run. This morning, Sunday, the message was on true repentance, and I felt that God was talking to me. Drawing me closer to Him. True Repentance is accepting my own blame, and not involving others, as well as being sorry enough that this makes a change in my lifestyle or attitude. No one, least of all God, expects us to do this on our own. I feel Home Run is one of the ways God wants to use to bring this concept home to each one of us. The message is plain enough, simple enough and yet told in such a compelling way that it will dig deep into the conscious of the Christian. And yet, the title, the cover and the blurb at the back will have others picking it up as well.Well written, in deep point of view where you not only see and hear what is happening but you also feel the emotions of the main character. The reader learns the back story through flashbacks, which are written in their own short chapter and in italics. Superbly done!I received this book free from bookfun.org for the purpose of writing an honest review. A positive critique was not required, and the opinions stated are my own.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Could not put it down! Can’t wait for the movie! This is the story of addiction. The main character, a professional baseball player was an abused child of an alcoholic, and is still carrying around his pain and making choices that prevent his escape. When he accidently bloodies the nose of his nephew, whom he does not recognize, and pitches an angry fit on the ball field, he is suspended for eight weeks. Circumstances force him to return home and come face to face with his pain and his poor choices.Everyone should read this book. We all carry around remnants of childhood that affect current choices, not to mention dealing with addictions. The theme of this book is that everybody has to deal with bad things in their life, but with the forgiveness of the Lord, everyone is capable. Beautiful book. I would recommend it for everyone.Received from NetGalley.
