About this audiobook

In The Art of Meditation, learn to quiet your mind and calm your body, ease physical discomfort and strengthen your immune system, and discover new powers of concentration. Acclaimed author Dr. Daniel Goleman teaches you how to attain these benefits in four distinctly different ways.

The Breath Meditation: One of the simplest and most widespread of meditative methods, found in almost every ancient spiritual tradition

The Body Scan Meditation: A powerful way to become deeply relaxed by moving your mind throughout your body to soothe and ease your muscles.

The Walking Meditation: An ancient method particularly useful for people who find it difficult to sit still while meditating, or who have trouble maintaining concentration.

The Mindfulness Meditation: A technique to enrich perception and gain direct insight into the inner workings of your mind.

Learn all the proven, life-enhancing benefits of meditation with this practical, accessible, comprehensive audio guide to this ancient discipline.

I use this audiobook frequently and to significant effect for help with my head, neck and facial pain. Particularly the first two meditations. The slow(ish) body scan, with particular attention to detail with the head, is very helpful. I only wish it were even slower so I wouldn't need to rewind and play catchup.

The Varieties of Meditative Experience was published by Daniel Goleman in 1977, and repackaged in 1996 as The Meditative Mind: The Varieties of Meditative Experience. An updated and expanded digital version was published in 2012, adding a new 4th section on The Psychology of Meditation, but removing chapters on Gurdjieff and Krishnamurti. I’d suggest reading both the initial edition (Varieties) and the updated ebook version of The Meditative Mind. An excellent compendium either way.
