About this audiobook

#1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts presents a novel of love, friendship, and family in Book One in the Bride Quartet.

Wedding photographer Mackensie "Mac" Elliot is most at home behind the camera, but her focus is shattered moments before an important wedding rehearsal when she bumps into the bride-to-be's brother...an encounter that has them both seeing stars.

A stable, safe English teacher, Carter Maguire is definitely not Mac's type. But a casual fling might be just what she needs to take her mind off bridezillas. Of course, casual flings can turn into something more when you least expect it. And Mac will have to turn to her three best friends—and business partners—to see her way to her own happy ending.

The development of the principal character, whose life has been heavily influenced by her familial background, and focused on cultural achievement, being in control , into a different set of values.
The book is a chick-lit, but still meaningful.

Mackenzie didn't have a great example of love but when Carter comes into her life she doesn't stand a chance plus her & her best friends work in the wedding industry

Reasonable story, unfortunately it's poorly narrated. Perhaps read a copy instead of listening

It’s an ok book for a quick summer read I guess, I must say I don’t get the hype. It’s completely straightforward with no surprises or twists, and barely any emotional turmoil. Even a YA romance provides more tension. There’s a lot of immaturity and some characters are so irritating it feels overdone, and the rest of them seem shallow. It’s a bit of a caricature of a love story of privileged wealthy successful white Americans. I’ll probably read the rest just to see if they are any better.

First book I’ve read by Nora Roberts that I found the first 6 hours boring. Got interesting towards the end. Was very predictable. But I identified with Mac’s new way of life. I found her change in behavior, her growth helpful!

Before I start I have to admit that I am sad to have to give this such a low rating because normally Nora Robert's books give me hours of pleasure. In all fairness though I couldn't give this more than two stars for quality, largely down to the lack of plot. Vision in White has all the usual Nora trademarks as it deals with women, their friendships and bonds, and the main character looking for her place in life and hopefully meeting a sexy man to spend that life with. Mackensie and her three friends Parker (the smart type A business women), Laurel (the sarcastic baker), and Emma (the sexy heartbreaker with a heart of gold) run a multi strand wedding planning company with Mackensie as the wedding photographer. Firstly, the one thing that I can always rely on a Nora Roberts book for was happily present; the four women are all strong and individual characters whose friendship leaps off the page. The best scenes for me are when the four friends are together to hash out problems or the scenes where they reminisce about their shared childhood. Unfortunately for Mac her childhood aside from strong friendships was less than idyllic with a weak and selfish mother and a distant and emotionally unavailable father having left her ironically cynical about the longevity of marriage and unable to form good relationships. Enter the frankly adorable Carter Maguire the Yale educated professor who decides to put down roots in his hometown and teach high school english. The relationship between Carter and Mac is fantastic and they appear to be well matched and there is an easy chemistry in their dialogue. I loved their first meeting particularly Mac's retelling of it to the girls as a 'sexy breakfast story!' and I adored Carter's colleague Bob who tries to give Carter well meaning love advice which had me laughing my head off at times. The characterisation and dialogue are generally top notch but the real problem with Vision in White is the plot- namely there isn't one. We meander through the relatively smooth romantic main plot with the only issues being on Mac's side with her mother's emotional blackmail and train wreck relationships leading her to believe that there is no such thing as happy ever after. Subsequently, the only real source of conflict in the plot is Mac trying to stand up to her mother and overcome her commitment phobia. I felt the novel and the romance for that matter needed far more conflict than was shown - aside from a very brief (all too brief) challenge from Carter's ex-fiancee there is little strife to the relationship at all. One thing Nora Roberts normally excels at in her romances is in showing equal input from the male of the relationship but sadly this deft touch is absent in this one. I would have liked to have had more about Carter and his frustrations in trying to reassure Mac that he is the real deal as it stood he was adorable but quite one dimensional. Overall though the plot was just incredibly weak given that Nora Roberts has earned the mantle of Queen of Romantic Suspense both under her own name as a writer of Romantic thrillers and as the grittier JD Robb I was very disappointed by how little happens in the novel. I kept waiting for a stalker to come into the picture or a sabeteur or just anything to give the plot more weight! It's because of the lack of plot that I felt I had to give it two stars particularly as the cover price for this is on average £11.99 in shops and when I'd finished I really felt as though I didn't get my money's worth. Take my advice and loan from a friend or the library until a cheaper edition comes

Mackenzie "Mac" is a wedding photographer, part of a quartet of a wedding business, "Vows". Mac is the kind of woman that even though she is part of a wedding business, doesn't believe in a happily ever after. Then Mac meets up with the brother of one of their clients, a school teacher Carter Maguire, whose kisses are more of a rake and wildman than a gentle english teacher. Carter ever since high school has had a secret crush on Mac, and after sharing a blinding passionate kiss that left them bothh senseless, he knows that she will always have a secret place within his heart. As Carter and Mac go about getting to know each other, a sensual desire builds up between them. Mac knows that Carter is the type of man that she has dreamed of, but she doesn't know if she can trust her heart. She has seen marriage after marriage fail after a certain period of time, but after meeting Carter and his wonderful family, she starts to realize the ever afters do come true. But will Mac come to her senses in time? This is the first of the "Bride Quartet" and having heard so many good things about this one, I definitely was thrilled to start reading this one. I love weddings and I just have fallen in love with this series. I couldn't put this one down, Nora Roberts is a good author. Although I have never been so enthralled into a story as I was in this one. I loved how even though Mac and Carter are so different, they also have lots of common ground as well. Another thing that I truly loved how this series is a quartet of four best friends that grew up together, and had a common interest :Weddings. Their passion and love! It was great to see these four women interact, and this story definitely amused and delighted me for the whole story. This is one of my favorite Contemporary romances ever written, it has such a classic love that is built up between these two charming characters. Its definitely one of those romances that will steal into your heart and soul, and make your day a bit brighter!

Review of narrating only. I could not make it past the second chapter. I don't feel the narrator was able to perform the male voices at all. In my opinion it really detracted from the novel. I'll try the book itself when I have time.

As one of the founders of Vows, a full service wedding planning service, Mackensie Elliot has discovered her niche as a photographer. Mac never knew the love of family until she and her three best friends banned together as business partners and as a found family. When she was very young, Mac's father left her and her mother, who was never much more than a self-centered drain on Mac's life. It is no wonder then that it takes Mac by surprise when Carter Maguire steps back into her life and offers her the first love she's known outside of her three friends, but Mac's fear of losing what she's never had may derail her chance at happiness before it even starts.

The first book in the Bride Quartet series, Vision in White, is a funny and light rom-com written more than 10 years ago that could be reissued and be as popular as it was upon its original release. Mac is quirky and funny, while Carter is an amazing cinnamon roll character. This book also serves to introduce the three women who make up the main characters in the other three books in this series. Overall, Vision in White is a very good introduction to what promises to be an enjoyable series.

2.5 starsThis isn't really a review, but, in a nod to timing, I wanted to alert anyone that still might have some Steve Kornacki thirst that the hero in this could help carry some of that weight. Dr. Maguire is a high school Lit teacher and a competent cinnamon roll. The rest of the characters and story, meh, a lot of wedding talk with acronyms (ex. MOB-mother of bride) that ruined the smoothness of reading for me, I couldn't quite sink into the romance, and overall this just had some caustic chaotic energy.I leave you with some favorite quotes:The taste of her, the feel . That moment of lips and tongue, and the heat rising in the blood. In the quiet of snowfall, that elemental hush, the sound of her breath sighing out broke in his mind like thunder. A storm gathering.#KorsnackiAlertShe stopped, threw her hands up again. “Grandfathers wear tweed. Old guys in old British movies wear tweed. Why do I find it sexy that he wears tweed? This is a question that haunts me.”“Haven’t heard from Carter?”“Why do you say that?”“Because you’re going to buy shoes, which is comfort food for you. Have you called him?”“To say what? I’m sorry? I already said that. I was wrong? I was, I know I was wrong, but it doesn’t change what I feel.”“Which is?”“Confused, afraid, stupid. Double all of that because I miss seeing him,” she admitted. “I miss talking to him. So I think it’s better if I don’t see him or talk to him.”“Your logic doesn’t resemble the logic of humans.”

Vision in White is the first book in Nora Roberts' Bride Quartet. It's the story of lifelong friendships and new romance. Mackensie "Mac" Elliot is a seasoned photographer who owns a successful wedding-planning company with her three closest friends—Emma, Parker and Laurel.

Nora Roberts made friendship and the importance of true love a central theme in this book. I enjoyed seeing how Mac slowly learns to start trusting people despite her indifferent parents and the fact that her mother get her to pay for everything. I enjoyed the girl power relationship Mackenzie had with her three best friends. It struck me as authentic. Add some steamy love scenes to the mix, and you've got the perfect guilty pleasure after a long day. A fast and fun romantic read.

Wonderful romantic story. Almost old fashioned. the series gets a bit weak on the last book as the 3rd book does a intro of the character in the final book. The 1st 2 books are some of the best though.

Mackenzie Elliot is one of a quartet of friends who run a wedding planning business. The irony, of course, is that Mac, while a brilliant wedding photographer doesn't believe that a marriage could actually be successful, especially one that might involve her. But when she bumps into Carter Maguire, who is the brother of one the brides Mac is working for, sparks fly. Can Carter convince the commitment-phobe Mac that not all weddings end in not happily ever after?Nora Roberts is a big name in the romance genre for a reason. Her writing is solid and her central characters are well-rounded and believable individuals whom it's very easy for the reader to root for. I did quibble a bit over a wedding photographer who refused to use a second shooter (having just done my own wedding, I wouldn't have accepted a photographer who didn't - for the ceremony at a minimum). There were also a couple of "villain" type characters who relied a little too heavily on trope and didn't feel like real human beings. However, these are minor annoyances. In a nice bit of serendipity, the novel is set at almost the same time of year as when I read it which lends some nice seasonal ambiance to the reading. If you're in the mood for a wedding-themed romance novel, this is a very solid choice.

The first of a four part series from undoubtedly my favorite author. This series tells of four women, friends since childhood, who own and run Vows, a wedding business. This book focuses on Mac(kensie), the photographer for the group. A great romance with wonderful comedy. Mac has a crazy mother whose sole purpose in life is to get everything she wants and does it without caring whose toes she steps on. Mac has conquered all her obstacles to become a celebrated wedding photographer with many magazine spreads. She falls for Carter, an English professor at their old high-school Alma mater, who has been in love with her since high-school. A wonderful story and a great glimpse at the work of a dedicated photographer. As I have read this book a total of three times now, I can strongly recommend it to anyone who loves a good romance but also enjoys a series. There is nothing better than knowing what happens after the book ends.

Before I started the series, I got the first game "Vision in White" so I basically know the whole story, but in order to proceed I have to read it and jump to book 2. I played the game 100 of times!!! Hope they make book 2 "Bed of Roses" into a game too!!

Reading this book was surprising, it begin slowly and okay but it got better, sweeter and hotter with every page. Beautifully written.

Nora Roberts can write a romance. This one was a very enjoyable read with engaging characters and a very deft hand bringing the setting (wedding business started by four friends) to life. While main characters fleshed out well enough, the hero was bit too good to be real (immediately loves her and says so and basically patiently puts up with and supports her every mood/whim/plot). But fun read and looking forward to more on other characters as series progresses. No real conflict with the good guy characters so not a tense or exciting read; stuff with the bad guys or overwrought bridal parties and families outright funny (and like with the hero of course brides quickly see it their way)

This was a cute, easy read. I really liked Carter, mainly because he was so normal. So often in romance novels, the guy has to be the mega alpha male, the bad boy Adonis, the dark and dangerous devil... And while all of those things are fine, sometimes it's nice just to have a leading man who is normal, who romances the heroine with his kindness, gentleness, and attentiveness. Carter was definitely the best part of the book. :)

I liked Mac okay. Her mom was something of a caricature. The downside of the book was really that Nora Roberts spent a lot of time repeating herself. After a scene with Mac and her mom, she'd tell the story to her friends or to Carter (or to both). Since the reader was with her when it originally happened, the retelling is boring and repetitive.

Worth a read if you're not looking for something sweet just to pass the time.
